@Jason Fayre That's perfect timing. One of the sites where I'm working as a sysadmin have just received their new opensense based gateway. Next week I'll start learning the platform.
in reply to Peter Vágner

@pvagner Very cool! They have already excepted a few of my poll requests. I’m not sure when these changes will make it into the official packages, but should be soon.

*sigh* again, privacy focused tech locks us out by designing a document solution that doesn't work well with the keyboard and or screen readers. In my brief testing I couldn't review any text I typed, at all, nor review a document someone else made as a test. The menu bar items also didn't have labels on them, it seemed. When do Disabled users have access to #Privacy too? proton.me/blog/docs-proton-dri… #Proton #Accessibility
in reply to Robert Kingett backup

To answer your question, how about never, is never good for you? Sorry to be facetious, I'm just annoyed. There seems to be this idea, I'm not quite sure where it originated, that disabled people (I'm blind so have seen this very plainly when dealing with things supposed to be accessible to the blind)... There's this idea that blind people are supposed to take the most basic crumbs and shut up. That is, if you can use something to some extent, it doesn't matter what you have to give up. Your time, energy, privacy, and so on aren't important, you should be happy just to use the product in a somewhat limited way. People say that a product is usable with Amazon's Echo, and seem to be dumbfounded when I say that I am not remotely interested in having a constantly recording microphone, or even a microphone which may be constantly recording, in my house. Indeed, I thought that's what distinguished pre-1989 eastern Europe from the west, I have read of people who believed, whether rightly or wrongly, that their phones were recording even when on hook and they ought to speak in a room away from the phone if they wanted privacy. I don't need to guess that things like Echo are listening, I know they are, how could they identify their wake word, or even pretend to do so, if they weren't? All that is to say that people take the view that blind people should just be happy to use anything and forget about the luxuries available to others, such as basic privacy. With the greatest regrets, I have to say I'm not happy to do that. Not, of course, that any of this will change.

Searching a good youtube client /downloader besides the elten crap? Anyone?
in reply to Jonathan

Foobar2000 with Youtube Source addon. Besides downloading it also has a built-in Youtube browser if I remember correctly.
in reply to Steffen

Sorry, but what do people have with Foobar2000? I tried it 2 times now but I just can't get the hang out of it. Like, when I start it I just get this huge interface I don't understand a single bit from, and how would I get that addon or use it or, waaa? Are there any docs about it to start of?

in reply to Jonathan

Then you might try 3d Youtube Downloader as standalone solution, thats what I use currently to download stuff yd.3dyd.com/
in reply to Jonathan

@Jonathan @Steffen I think if you only would like to download youtube videos and not use it for managing your music library, tag your media files, convert to different audio format, handle huge music playlists then you will perhaps like a different tool better.
in reply to Peter Vágner

@pvagner @radiorobbe Well I mean it seems interesting, but its so big and I never knew where to start of, thats the issue.

This is truly so moving to me. Having gone from a far more diverse professional field into this one has been incredibly difficult, like a kind of grief that no one over here understands unless they've made a similar journey. It's been impacting me a lot lately and it's wonderful to see change examples.

#Buffalo-centric article from the BBC:
“US cities are advertising themselves as ‘climate havens’. But can they actually protect residents from extreme weather?”
bbc.com/future/article/2024062…

It points out the fact that everywhere is getting worse, Buffalo just less rapidly. It also ignores the fact that the city’s mayor of 18 years has still not figured out how to handle blizzards. So, come join us in Buffalo, where the frog boiling is slower and the leadership is yet slower than that!

Good morning, any suggestion for an accessible and friendly RSS feeds reader for Windows exxcept Thunderbird, please?
in reply to Cleverson

About updates of feeds, very older versions of the add-ons check for new articles at NVDA startup, but I preferred to deactivate it. Also, I thought about making possible to get notifications of updates of the default feed, now that NVDA includes a schedule module, but finally I decided that this is not needed and maybe anoying. Anyway, suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Okay, this one might not go so well with people but this is a draft I've been sitting on since May.

Here is my opinions about the current going alternatives to Discord, especially #Matrix and #XMPP. We need to talk about this rather now than soon.

in reply to Regalia

To briefly answer your question on what’s the deal with the #XMPP mailing lists. Most discussion happens (sort of unsurprisingly 😉) on XMPP.
Developer discussions happen here: xmpp:jdev@muc.xmpp.org?join
on sys admin stuff here: xmpp:operators@muc.xmpp.org?jo… or in the channels for the specific server software.

Just the slower paced standards discussions (for which we also want a more permanent record) happens on a mailing list.

Here in our vacation home in southern Kentucky we recently got a new LG washer and dryer. The dryer, when it finishes, plays this melody. Anyone know what it is? Note: this Youtube video is not mine. youtube.com/watch?v=nidrIvBqny…
in reply to Jayson Smith

@FreakyFwoof I actually researched that and it in deed seems to be something custom-made. Some users were tipping "The Lincolnshire Poacher" but definitely not that one. For the record, the Samsung's tune is a stanza from Schubert's "Die Forelle". BTW: If you actually Google all of that the first result you'll hit is a nicely written essay about how singing and music in general accompanied performing of household duties and how that plays into slavery themes and gender stereotypes.
