in reply to Doug Lawlor

@douglawlor Everything about linkedin sucks to me. It's a poor platform in many ways. Accessibility, usability, even trying to find a way to quickly post from the site is nasty.
in reply to Andre Louis

@FreakyFwoof I honestly can't stand using it. That was only one of the things. If i took the time I could go on for hours about it. It is just an absolutely horrible platform to use both on mobile and desktop.
in reply to Doug Lawlor

@douglawlor @FreakyFwoof I'm in agreement. I maintain an active presence on LinkedIn as it's a great tool for network but it's a mixed bag when it comes to accessibility.
in reply to Doug Lawlor

@douglawlor @FreakyFwoof But… Isn’t the accessibility God of the universe running accessibility at LinkedIn? Was that too snarky? Perhaps.
in reply to Brian Moore

@bmoore123 @jfayre @douglawlor @FreakyFwoof I'm glad I waited for someone else to apply the snark. It must be all the prep for GAAD that's preventing him from making these common-sense changes.
in reply to Pratik Patel

@ppatel @bmoore123 @jfayre @douglawlor @FreakyFwoof Las time I saw him was at a local conference. He was sitting on a chair in the middle of the room, and everyone would approach him one by one. My friend went up to him and asked if he could kiss the ring. Lol!
in reply to Jason Fayre

@jfayre @douglawlor @mcourcel @ppatel @bmoore123 I was at Worcester college with him, and even shared a room at some points as well. Glad to hear it's not him.
in reply to Martin from Toronto

@mcourcel @bmoore123 @jfayre @FreakyFwoof @douglawlor @ppatel Many years ago, I contacted LinkedIn's accessibility team once or twice with feedback specific to accessibility. I would then hear back from them right away with a very friendly and personalized response but then nothing would get fixed. What that tells me is that, at least at that time, LinkedIn had a very dedicated and passionate accessibility team but that there was a disconnect between their accessibility team communicating the feedback and the actual development teams applying that feedback. In other words, I don't necessarily blame their accessibility experts for dropping the ball. I suspect that the ball is being dropped once it changed hands.
in reply to David Goldfield

@mcourcel @bmoore123 @jfayre @FreakyFwoof @douglawlor Ah but they prided themselves on having accessibility integrated into their development process. Things have clearly changed.
in reply to Pratik Patel

@ppatel @mcourcel @bmoore123 @jfayre @FreakyFwoof @douglawlor If LinkedIn claimed that accessibility was baked into their development process I would strongly disagree with that claim and I'd be happy to demonstrate why I believe this is not the case. It's a shame as they're such a valuable resource, which is why I maintain an active presence on that platform, but I would never pay for their premium plan, partially because of their accessibility challenges. To be fair, I haven't communicated with them about this in some time and so we as users do need to do that to do our part in at least trying to affect positive change.

Hi everyone, we have been receiving support inquiries from users regarding a phishing email circulating impersonating Tuta Mail.

‼️This email is NOT from the official Tuta team.‼️

Should you receive this email, please report and delete it.

in reply to Tuta

it also looks like Microsoft is blocking your domains again I tried multiple times to contact a support Mail and never got anything back but using GMail worked fine. So far I can confirm for 2 totally different companies.
in reply to Tuta

how `[[-Email-]]` isn't setting off people's alarm bells... also that "without your permission."

(Why on earth would they format it that way? it makes it obvious something strange is going on)

Reminder that #xmpp is a great alternative to signal/whatsapp especially for 1-1 chats and voice calls.

If you want to self host, try out snikket. They have paid hosting available too.

For Android users, Conversations is a fantastic client.

Of course, most people making noise about it all still want the convenience of a free service.

Needed to merge some documents and export to multiple Word files. Used Word and Excel first - cannot believe Word cannot do this without code or dodgy plugins.

Decided to try in the wonderful #Libreoffice and not only is the feature built in, the merge worked perfectly. Should have tried Libreoffice first . . .

Hi. Asking this question for research purposes, and also because I might have missed things.

I'm working on a blog post about hospital experiences and what staff like nurses and doctors as well as other staff might be able to do to help people who are blind in hospital. This comes after I spent 5 days in hospital recently. I'd love to know what suggestions people have, and the things we as a community think should be included in the post. Please share this for reach, and more suggestions.

I cannot thank you enough foor raising awareness about this issue. I wrote about this very topic last year on my blog as I found myself feeling frustrated with the lack of accessibility in medical facilities, not to mention the lack of understanding from some members of the staff.
Aside from implementing some of the solutions I mentioned, I think that what is needed is for blindness consumer groups to provide training sessions to medical staff.
Aside from airports, hospitals are some of the most frustrating environments I've had to visit as a blind person.
Feel free to reference this post.

Well, I'm reading the Wizarding World archive thing on Audible. Material's great, I've found out some interesting stuff I didn't know. But the reading is dreadful! It's all covered in superfluous music and sound effects, with the latter you can't even work out what they are half the time. Some are so loud they drown words of the book. Two of the readers are about ok, the other two are hammy in the extreme. Honestly, why do I keep buying these books? I always end up being disappointed somehow.
in reply to Lulu Hartgen

Just heard the sample on Audible, and think I'll go with the Kindle version instead. What I heard of the music is OK, but I think they got a bit carried away with the effects. Sound effects are fine if used properly, but I'm not sure about this one.

This is a powerful, well-written article by a gifted leader who would make a great CEO of Vision Australia herself if she wanted the role.
She has inspired me to talk more openly about my own experience.
It is tempting for leaders with the experience for these roles to bite their tongue and think that things will surely be better next time. But our silence is bought with the promise of a tomorrow that never comes.
The time has come for us to take on these agencies, and I do wonder if one way to do that is for a group of us to get together and take it to the United Nations under the Convention on the Rights of Disabled People.
I applied for the Blind Low Vision NZ CEO role last year. I did so with compelling credentials. I am a former Board chair and senior manager of that organisation, I have CEO experience in a national disability service provider. I am internationally recognised as a leader in the blind community and have an in-depth knowledge of this sector. I’m considered an expert in the critical area of technology as it effects blind people, an area which is transforming our lives and has the potential to do so much more.
I was not successful. Instead, a sighted person was appointed with no knowledge of blindness or the sector. Yet another opportunity was lost to stop the steady erosion of blindness services. A chance was missed to send a signal to the community, and particularly to younger blind people, that blind people can and do lead. Yet more damage was done to the organisation's moral authority. After all, how can you possibly champion blind people as attractive employment prospects when you won't even walk your own talk and appoint a blind person yourself to lead the organisation? Indeed, until recently, for some considerable time there were 0 blind people on Blind Low Vision NZ's Executive Leadership Team.
New Zealand’s situation is very similar to the Australian situation so clearly summarised by Emma. We also have a Board Chair with consumer credentials who has discarded the values that got him there.
When I highlighted this issue far less forcefully at the time it happened to me, some accused me of sour grapes. So let me be clear. I would have been delighted if a qualified blind candidate from anywhere in the world had been given the role. This is about a principle that, in not speaking up for it, is costing blind New Zealanders dearly in terms of service quality.
This is happening all over the world, and it has to stop. Do people for a moment think that if an organisation dedicated to serving women had been led by a succession of men for five years let alone a hundred years, there wouldn’t be a huge outcry? Nor would, or should, members of ethnic minorities tolerate organisations serving them being led by someone who doesn’t know how it truly is to face their challenges first-hand. It wouldn't be right for them, and it is not right for us.
Enough is enough. Change only starts when the silence stops. linkedin.com/pulse/missed-oppo…

Además, no tenía dinero.
Escuchaba la canción cuando iba a visitar una tienda de discos y comics en mi ciudad natal. Oh tiempo tus pirámides y todo eso.

According to the "Terminator" film franchise, TODAY is the day that Skynet became self-aware, took over, and started its campaign to destroy humanity. The good news is that instead we have garbage like #Google Gemini that can't even answer questions like "When was Kamala Harris born?"

So we're probably safe from Skynet for now.

A 92-second core freeze just from trying to open a network share... NVDA betas aren't for production computers. But I couldn't work with the lag in VSCode, either. I guess it's back to 2024.2. @NVAccess, any chance of a 2024.3.1 hotfix for VSCode lag?
in reply to NV Access

@ppatel It is, and I'm thinking the very, very long core freeze earlier was an odd side effect of a network share failing to load. Now that the share's server is sorted, I'm hoping to be able to keep using the beta so I can use VSCode until the official release.
