In May 2024 we finally decided that maybe the time has come for curl to drop support of older TLS libraries. Libraries that because they don't support the modern TLS version (1.3) for many users are maybe not suitable to build upon for the future.
For TLS Inspector we're already shipping OpenSSL and a certificate store, so we're lucky that all the pieces are there already to make the transition smoother.
But, if I'm being honest, if that weren't the case - this deprecation would be difficult.
so, as someone mainly using the curl command line on macos... what changes for me? like, i know these changes are for libcurl but id imagine id still be affected by the changes on the curl cli program 😅
@pearl nothing at all changes then. curl on macOS uses LibreSSL since several years back. This is only a change for a subset of users who build curl/libcurl themselves for Apple operating systems.
@thedoctor Calling it "Apple Secure Transport" or "Apple's Secure Transport" in the title might have been better for those who had never heard of that library (and most people who don't develop for Apple systems probably haven't heard of that library).

@barthalion ten years ago friends of mine lived in a building. The one next door was left to rot. So much that in winter the common wall was freezing. A few years after they left it was torn down. They had been denied permits until the building was threatening to collapse.

I woke up this morning to a slew of text messages pointing me towards an article on Vulture about Neil Gaiman. Most of the messages were people saying they were sorry they didn’t believe me in the early 90s when I first started warning people that he was a “missing stair”, a fake feminist, and a dangerous man in a closed room. I’m so fucking tired of being Cassandra. I warned you people. Over and over. Nobody fucking believed me. It was a large part of why I walked away from a career in that industry.
