I guess that’s something you already thought about.

Not really a feature, but recently I discovered some new curl features. Well documented, working great and very useful but what can be done to help users discover these features.

I know a lot of people already know how great curl is, but maybe don’t know how much better it actually is.

I think that a lot of people (I was one of them) assume that because curl is ubiquitous, that it is like the basic utilities ‘ls’, ‘cd’, etc. and that they don’t get any new features.

Anyway, all of that to say I love curl and I can’t wait to see what will be next!

Just discovered there was a Hacker News comment thread about a lean and mean desktop app written with its own cross-platform GUI toolkit, with nobody commenting on the total lack of accessibility. news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4… I had hoped that awareness of accessibility in the community had grown to the point that I didn't have to be the one to post about this everywhere. I just belatedly commented on this particular thread.

wonder if it will create a slippery slope argument around it, E. usually ISPs detect piracy through torrent seeding, so by that logic, any of it that doesn't directly re-upload the content is not "real" pirating of material, something rights holders would never agree with. Ironically though, they're the ones asking to unseal the court records of ISP infringers based on who has seeded it, so it may require they up their game or tactic for detecting and flagging systems.

Signal has long said it'd "rather shut down or leave a market" than add a backdoor or weaken its encryption.

Apple also had this option when it was ordered by the UK government to build an iCloud backdoor. Apple could have said — without violating secrecy laws — why it was leaving the UK, rather than weaken the security of all of its UK customers.

Instead, Apple capitulated to the demand to keep operating, and prioritized its profits over its customers' security.

While only semi-related to your post, I just read up on the "Sentry Mode" on this thing which sent me down a rabbit hole of security nightmares. The ways in which these vehicles violate privacy, not just of the owners, but of random people just walking by them is both astounding and horrifying.

Also sentry mode drains the battery quickly and only works if the battery is over 20%, which I'm definitely not sharing for reasons related to this post. Definitely not.

Today's victory over enshittification:

I mainly bought my new Google TV Streamer device to listen to audio-only content. So imagine my disappointment when it only worked for 10 minutes. Video worked fine, as did Spotify somehow. Auto-shutdown was set to an hour, and the ambient mode app was disabled. Audio playback just stopped and turned off the receiver and TV entirely, and I exchanged enough connections to know the streamer was the initiator.

The fix, apparently, is to enable developer mode, go into the developer mode settings, check the option to keep the screen awake, then audio-only content like Antennapod works. I guess audio-only apps don't keep the screen alive which, in turn, sends CEC to kill everything else. Hoping auto-shutdown takes over when I stop streaming so this isn't too wasteful.

What an absolute crock. I shouldn't need to be an Android developer to figure this shit out.

"Previously best known for guest appearances on a handful of TV shows (Difficult People, Elementary) and some shows on and off-Broadway, Tramell Tillman has been a revelation on Severance. As Seth Milchick, he represents many of the show’s most important themes without feeling like a walking billboard for them. He brings humanity and life to a character who seems like he’s constantly hiding an aspect of himself from everyone else."

"One thing I wanted to understand was, what is the town of Kier like? I presume that Milchick grew up in Kier — is it racially diverse? And if it’s not, is race a thing? I remember asking Ben [Stiller, the director and executive producer] — I said, 'There’s nothing in the script that suggests that he is specifically Black, but you specifically wanted a Black actor to play this role.' So my question was: 'Milchick is Black. Does he know that he’s Black?'"

Have a very early look at Keypad, one of the many games you'll find in Brain Station. In this game, I have to enter words using a telephone keypad. To add complexity, the keypad uses q, W, E as 1, 2, and 3. A, S, and D as 4, 5, and 6, and so on. There is no bottom row, with star 0 and pound because who needs that. Some features are still missing, but not bad for 90 minutes of work.

#MastoAdmin folks who weren't around the #Fediverse and #Mastodon back in 2018 may not know (or those who were, may have forgotten) how unpopular trending tags were when the project leader forced it despite extensive criticism about creating abuse vectors and clawing back promises of creating an algorithm-free network.

Recently, I shared about the devastating, life-sapping experience of losing custody of my 6-yr-old, who I haven't seen in >3 years. Being erased from her life is a great tragedy for me and for an innocent kid being deprived of a loving, present dad. Racism constantly creates generational trauma.

I've found a lawyer I trust to help reunite us. I’ll need $3k for the retainer and quite a bit more to go the distance. THANK YOU for your support!

With the Amazon Appstore shutting down, it's becoming even more important to invest in sustainable alternative stores you can trust.

See how you can invest in Accrescent's future! A little help goes a long way:

in reply to Eskuero

@eskuero We appreciate you mentioning this. Unfortunately, we don't currently have the capacity to develop and maintain official documentation for how to run Accrescent independently. It would also be very difficult for a third party to keep up with running Accrescent right now since the backend is constantly changing and often requires manual intervention to update which requires special knowledge of how Accrescent works.

We may consider supporting documentation once Accrescent is more stable.

in reply to Eskuero

Why can't certificates and keys be hashed and included in the third-party URL?
Why can't Accrescent have a feature to restrict third-party repo app installs via a corporate management thingy?
After all, you'd probably want to allow orgs to restrict the installation of certain app that are in the main Accrescent repo, right? Or am I misunderstanding how corporate security features work?
@eskuero
in reply to Light

@light @eskuero It would be complex to allow adding pinned certificates since that wouldn't be using the standard Android network security configuration. But the TLS certificate pinning concern is currently obsolete since Accrescent doesn't have TLS certificate pinning since version 0.19.0.

Accrescent could have a management feature like that. However, that doesn't resolve some of the other issues with third-party repositories not listed on the website. For example, unattended updates aren't guaranteed if the store doesn't enforce a sufficiently high minimum target SDK. It's also not Accrescent's goal to be a generic app installer for any source, but instead an independent app store.

That section of the website is outdated and should be updated to reflect the above.

Apple withdrawing ADP from its UK iCloud service was inevitable, and is a serious wake up call for the UK government.

While the UK government may have had good intentions, trying to undermine E2EE has backfired catastrophically.

No way Apple would capitulate and sabotage the privacy of its service globally.

As 70 years of geopolitical stability fractures, the UK is weakening the nation’s cyber defences through its flawed obsession with blanket surveillance.
