In Denmark we also have the so called 'cyclestreets', but according to the traffic laws they are basically just normal streets. Cars are still allowed to overtake, and the reduced speed is merely a recommendation.

I started a little python project to take my ~20 years of #Flickr photos, categorize them and analyze the content using #ollama locally. So far the results are pretty good. Some hallucinations, but mostly useful content.

In the past I saw a link to a web dev tutorial that was starting at the absolute beginning. From creating a HTML file and just open it in the browser. It was pretty hyped here, but I don't remember the name.

Just vacuuming thoughts: The requirement to have some kind of permission to go pee in the middle of class is antithetical to teaching children that they should have and demand bodily autonomy, and instead teaches that authority figures are going to limit them for no other reason than the chance that someone who doesn't need to pee needs or wants a couple of minutes away from the classroom for any other reason, thus punishing the whole for the theoretical infraction of the few... At worst giving them pee issues and/or social trauma?

yeah well it’s gorgeous. Plus the fact it relies on battery packs, I bought three to use as stand in batteries throughout the day, but it’s lasting longer than I thought it would. And it’s so dam light. And the speaker sounds honestly amazing for casual use. And the eSIM only kinda works for me to be honest. And I don’t need three cameras. And I don’t have to worry about batteries aging because of the packs.
Um, there's still a battery in the phone, so yes, you do. If it dies, the thing isn't going to turn on and it makes it as thick, if not thicker, than a phone that doesn't need one... Stupid, stupid phone.
Negates the whole pissing point of a thin phone. Oh yes, let me slap my fat- as hell battery on the back because, reasons... Could have just bought a normal 17 without the pro if you're not camera-fussed.
@machenni I have a 17 pro, was out for the day, didn't have to even think about charging, or battery packs, or making it twice as thick, because it just... Worked.
I'm not discounting that as an important thing. But you've listed so many reasons not to like it, that I'm wondering if you feel that it's gorgeousness outweighs all of that.
@davidnjoku I think it's one of those 'I bought it so I damn well better like it.' All those batteries weighing down your pocket/bag as well, just to get through the day, at huge extra cost as well? Nah.
I'm not really entitled to an opinion cos I don't think I've ever owned an Apple product in my life. However @a11yChief does say that even though they've bought battery packs the in-built battery is lasting longer than expected.
@davidnjoku I hate the idea of it, I don't hate the product itself, other than thinking it's a waste of money, when the slightly larger sibling is cheaper, thicker, and won't rely on battery after battery being slapped on the back. Oh, and it comes with more cameras and one extra speaker, so it sounds better, and takes better photos. for something that costs as much as the Air does to be so shit in so many ways is quite frankly bloody offensive.
When Samsung released the Galaxy S25 Edge a few weeks before the Air, it made sense to me - even though it has all the same flaws. They'd developed the ultra-thin technology as part of their foldable programme, and so it made sense to try to make thin phones a new category.
Maybe Apple are working on a foldable too, and that's why they're doing this.
@davidnjoku Just had a look. The phone outright, £999. Assuming he purchased three extra batteries, that's £99/battery, thus £297 just on batteries. total: £1296.
Standard iPhone 17 is £799 so that's already cheaper than the thinner phone (with only one speaker and one back camera and no extra battery)
@davidnjoku no not really. I can just send it back for a refund if I want. So far, the only thing I’m noticing is the mono speaker, but only in landscape. My other far better speakers are getting way more use as a result, but it fits with how I work now.
Plus, what I’ve not made clear is this is almost certainly my last iPhone. And re cameras, if I’m needing cameras, I’ll use cameras. Not a phone.
@davidnjoku You won't be using cameras for OCR, for Gemini/GPT, for FaceTime when you're stuck in a hotel and want the thermostat to work, to take video when you're out and about when your phone is already in your hand and you want to capture the world... What camera do you *think* you're gonna be cart-arsing about with, on top of your 3 or so extra battery packs? Do tell?
@davidnjoku honestly I’m kinda sick and tired of Apple rug pulling accessibility. I’ve heard some good things about android, so I’m on the hunt for a good way to try out talkback on something before I buy one. The air was a kind of “one last ride” moment.

@davidnjoku I mean you thought I’d be running back to macOS within weeks of using any number of Linux based systems, but I’m very happy up penguin creak with multiple paddles that are completely independent of the boat they’re pushing along. Plus, if one breaks, I don’t have to wait for it to be fixed by the boat maker.
@davidnjoku lol, re the packs, two together are the thickness of my 13 pro max in a case, and most days I’m only planning on carrying one or two.
The back camera is plenty good enough for stuff like that. Like I cannot stress this enough, the 13 Pro Nax is a Netflix certified film camera. You do not need that for anything including Ayra, gpt vision or casual photographs. However I do need 3 days of charge when travelling.
