Countering toxicity and fake takes is not just a technical question (moderation, admins etc) but one of social curation both collectively and privately: which people and groups do you/we trust for what. No tool can automate that.
#deltachat is for private e2ee messaging and mutually curated group chats, and not random social media propelled onboarding. We are with #Signal here and not with #simplex and #matrix who offer public anonymous discovery of large chat groups with lots of unknown folks.
How do you reckon with the notion that your app could be used by groups to organise and cause real harm in the world. Is this just the cost of creating secure messaging? Do you think there are ways to cultivate a positive culture around your software, or is this something you think you should be separate from? (Genuine questions, I'm not trying to “gotcha” you here. I think these are real and difficult considerations for a lot of FOSS projects right now)
very fair questions! We don't take a neutral position on how and who uses and benefits from our efforts. We choose and curate our audiences, collaborations and designs carefully. The challenges with authoritarianism and violence are real even if impact is distributed very unevenly across regions, skin colors and genders. Supremacists tend to thrive and depend on hierarchical (mob) organizing and we are lacking much UX there. Somehow we never quite get to prioritize it :)

@machocam it's repeatedly discussed and there are several folks in our teams who are pushing for admin roles in group chats. In fact, we may soon introduce something in that direction but we'd like to talk more about it after it's released. Still some UX and machine room happenings to sort out before.

OK, complete! I switched samtupy.com to a better domain registrar, and everything seems to be working! Porkbun is cheaper than namecheap, and more accessible. If anyone experiences any issues please report! Sometimes dns records take some hours to propagate, however still I suspect little to no issues. With that out of the way, happy Halloween!
Oh yeah, I love porkbun. It's always worth looking at the other providers though. Recently moved a .me domain from porkbun to cloudflare as porkbun charged like 7 dollar more at that point. .com costs like 11 at porkbun, how much was it at namecheap?
Also unless you have changed server/IP I think there should be no issues at all. Even if the DNS records are out dated, they should still lead to your IP. But correct me if I'm wrong. I only have the basic knowledge about that kind of stuff.
@jonathan859 The hurtle might have been the nameservers. After transfering away from namecheap, they can disable my dns entries on their nameservers at any time. So the flow goes look up domain -> check nameserver -> IP returned from nameserver. So if they disabled my dns on their nameservers before everyone's records updated to porkbun's nameservers, it's theoretically possible that querying the domain would lead to namecheap's servers which would say "oh, this domain is no longer registered here." Thankfully that seems to not be the case or at least I'm not seeing any reports yet.
@jonathan859 It was $18.48 at namecheap haha, so porkbun was a huge improvement. Indeed I'm sure sometimes a given registrar will get a better deal than another on a certain TLD.
@johann Yeah I use their nameservers if that's what you mean. Their dns record configuration is very accessible sans a very minor and nearly web wide modal dialog focusing glitch that I couldn't care less about. Friends had told me about porkbun for a while now and I recently needed to purchase 2 new domains and was very impressed with it all around. I have huge respect for any service that lets you actually customize even little things like the display, and I appreciate that genuine bits of humanity and amusement show on their site rather than the detached 100% corporate professionalism I see on most other services. I was inspired by that, that's for sure.

We have been made aware of a significant difficulty when using Fusion V2026 with any of our products. Essentially, the function which returns its serial number is completely broken. If Fusion is run, the products cannot be activated or used. If Fusion is closed and JAWS started, which is possible to do, everything works as it should. This has never occurred in any previous versions of Fusion before including 2025. This not only affects our products but any scripts where the serial number is being referenced.
There are some people who have a Fusion license but only use the JAWS component. They ignore Fusion entirely. If that is you, then you can safely use the products. However, if you rely on the magnification element of Fusion, we advise you not to install any of our products into Fusion 2026 until such time as Vispero provide guidance on the matter.

@zleap I understand completely about limited resources! I work with digital accessibility and many organisations creating plug-ins etc for assistive technologies are very much in the same situation. In early September, The Matrix Foundation homeserver went down.
I'm extremely proud of our SRE team. They had a Disaster Recovery Plan and monthly exercises to apply it, resulting in no data loss despite a 24h outage.
I've learned a lot about how to properly backup/restore a Postgres database when writing this post with SREs. We also learned how to better prevent and be resilient to human error.

It is not even off the table or dropped, just someone saying they will change it from "mandatory" to "voluntary" and try to push it this way. Then propose changing it to mandatory once the tech is built.
@link2xt as far as EU decision processes go, the current danish EU council presidency that has been leading the efforts to implement mandatory client side scanning, dropping the effort, is significant. It's not just "someone" saying something. These decisions take time and if they don't change course now, they risk making any (voluntary) client side scanning illegal. Will there be renewed efforts to break e2ee? Of course. But it's a victory for now nonetheless.

IMHO it's gross generalization. Yes, there are many tools with expert UI, but there are also many tools with simple UI. It's like pointing at Photoshop and saying proprietary software doesn't have simple photo editors.

How do I prevent NVDA from crashing when I run a Python program that processes a list of 16000 elements or more? From what I can tell, now NVDA just freezes and shows that the Command Prompt is not responding, even though I'm sure it is, because I can still read the output using OCR. How do I fix this?
So, wait a sec. Since the launch of Mac OS 26 it seems there is a serious conflict between VoiceOver and VMWare Fusion 2025H2 build where a virtual machine crashes as soon as VO is running. How long has it been since the Mac OS 26 release? These guys can't figure out a solution to such a seirous problem? I am sure if sighted folks were affected in a similar manner, some kind of patch would have been released by now, no?
This same thing happened to Fusion in macOS Sequoia. It may be fixed quicker were it not for the fact that VMWare's currrent owners are a small little mom-and-pop by the name of Broadcom--you might've heard of them. They've single-handedly run the entire product line into the ground. All this to say: No, a fix is slow incoming, if it ever does. Back to Parallels, whose accessibility may still suck, but is at least managed by a dedicated team who hasn't managed to piss off the world.

Introducing a moderator/admin function is a move towards that.
I feel a more laissez-faire approach to group admin is more in line with the principles of FOSS.
I'm quite happy that the member's of my Family Group all share the same admin rights.
