If your #fanfic summary starts off "All characters were bornded in 2008 instead" I'm not reading any further. Bornded? Really? I can't even...how do we get to bornded? Born is already the past tense! Okay, but if you didn't know that, I could see borned. I don't like it, but not everyone speaks English, and that's totally okay. But if you're using some kind of translation dictionary, wouldn't it give you the word "birth" and so then you'd write "birthed"? Birthed isn't my favourite, either, but it's fine. It's a real word. I've been sitting here for several minutes trying to figure out how anyone, anywhere, gets to "bornded". I would even accept "gived birth to", especially if your native language isn't English; it's a good try.

So one of the problems with automated #translation based on #AI is that it's in this weird, awkward place now where it's not good enough to seem native, but it is good enough not to be immediately obvious. I had forgotten I set my browser to automatically translate pages in several languages to English for me. Then I clicked on a #fanfic, read the first couple chapters, and was getting really annoyed why one character kept changing Gender's, and the name of a location wasn't consistent from chapter to chapter. Turns out the author was writing in #Spanish, I hadn't noticed the language tag, and when I clicked the browser just automatically translated without clearly telling me. Thank goodness I realized, just in time, before I posted a comment on her work pointing out the issues with writing quality and offering editing help! Yikes! That doesn't mean that I'm against Machine Translation or even think it's a bad thing. But as it gets better and better, and starts living in this awkward uncanny valley, we really need to carefully rethink user interfaces. Maybe disable all form inputs until the user clicks "I'm aware this was translated" somewhere? I had the comment all written, folks; I was that close to posting. Maybe put "translated from" in some obvious place like the title bar? I don't know what the answer is, but I do know that we need to be putting way more thought into it.

protip: If you're going to rip off someone's Harry Potter #fanfic, and have a bad AI voice read it, maybe check to make sure it's not an explicit drary slashfic before uploading it to your Harry Potter Playtime Fun channel, and marking the video "for children".

Maybe while you're at it, consider picking a British voice? And proofreading the titles so they have the correct chapter numbers? And not skipping chapter seven completely? It must take extra work to do crime this badly!

Just a few tips for the scammers out there. I know crediting the original author and doing an actual human reading just isn't possible; you've gotta upload a couple hundred videos a week, after all!

I've also just started this #Fanfic recently. It's a bit Cthulhu-ish, steeped in the Eldritch. But if you like that sort of thing ...
John Blackwood, an American special forces operative is sent to Hogwarts under the guise of a Muggle Studies professor. But his true mission lies deeper: prepare Harry Potter for a war beyond prophecy—one not just against Voldemort, but against the cosmic horrors the Dark Lord has awakened in his obsession with immortality.

Burnable finished this #Fanfic at the start of the year. I've read Back to the Beginning a handful of times, but this one didn't grip me nearly as well unfortunately.

With a mind unbound by judgment, and finding comfort in quiet solitude, Harry Potter begins his journey into the wizarding world. Yet, his past of abuse and neglect has shaped both his mind and magic into something new and powerful. He sees the world through a whole new kind of filter, which is just ready and waiting to evolve.

I've started this #Fanfic whilst hoping labour would progress. The baby isn't out yet but at least we're having a giggle between contractions, comrades.

Harry Potter and the Ludicrously Illegal Blog, By The Sentient Duck

No one bothers to tell Harry about the Statute of Secrecy or, for that matter, that electronics shouldn't work in Hogwarts, so when he joins the magical world, he just continues writing his blog. The Muggle public is convinced he's a brilliant fantasy writer, his friends are convinced he's a menace to society, and MI6 is convinced Hermione is a Russian spy. Modern AU.

It's a 200k word Fic that seems to have been written over the course of 12 months or so last year.

Spent a couple hours playing the visual novel Pizza Game. If you're the kind of person who finds bad My Immortal style #fanfic funny, this will work for you. It's fully #screenreader#accessible in the standard #renpy way, but also has descriptions of the visual jokes; the developer spent time thinking about #A11y, and it didn't just happen thanks to the engine. store.steampowered.com/app/710710/Pizza_Game/#visualnovel

The amazing feeling of discovering that The Archive Of Our Own has a character tag for "Fediverse Network/Mastadon Platform (Anthropomorphic)", followed by the disappointment of finding only a single #fanfic using that tag. I wanted to read a bunch of erotic #Misskey#fanfiction about all that forking! Maybe a #GnuSocial#Pleroma slashfic! Or some #GoToSocial and #Mastodon lemons. A #hubzilla and #friendica hurt/comfort fanfic anyone? C'mon, people. The fact a tag exists means we should use it. archiveofourown.org/tags/Fediverse%20Network*s*Mastadon%20Platform%20(Anthropomorphic)/works

Another enjoyable #Fanfic over the weekend for me. I've seen The Chamber of Secrets power Harry up aplenty, but this was a bit different.

A disillusioned Harry Potter begins to unravel his potential as the wizarding world follows the Triwizard Tournament. Harry delves into a world that is much greater, and more complicated, than he was aware of. The story contains detailed magic, politics, social situations and complicated motivations. It is a story of growth and maturation.

I'm restarting my new/favourite #HarryPotter #Fanfic thread here, since #BirdSite is well, that... Let's start with this incredible thing, which is keeping me so engrossed that I cannot put it down, other than to type this. I will add to the thread with subsequent reads, and perhaps some old favourites.
