Yep, a self-healing metal.

Scientists have discovered that metal-halide perovskite, a next-generation semiconductor material, can self-heal from radiation damage in space. And this could be a game-changer for space-based solar panels and future power generation.

An Oakland-based company called Brimstone broke through that hurdle. On Wednesday, it announced it received third-party certification that its carbon-negative cement is structurally and chemically the same as regular cement. The company says it is the first carbon-neutral or carbon-negative cement to meet that building requirement. #engineering #sustainability #construction #GreenTechnology washingtonpost.com/climate-sol…

Elijah McCoy was born in 1844 in Ontario to formerly-enslaved parents from Kentucky. They saved enough to send him to Scotland to study mechanical #engineering. When he returned and couldn't get work in his field, he took a job as a train oilman and invented a method of automatic lubrication that eliminated the frequent stops trains had to make to oil up axles & bearings. Railroad companies asking for his product rather than copycat devices spawned the phrase "the real McCoy." #BlackHistoryMonth

This lighthouse is SO UNIQUE! It's called Þrídrangar, which means "three rock pillars". It is located 4.5 miles (7.2 kilometres) off the southwest coast of Iceland, in the archipelago of Vestmannaeyjar, often described as the most isolated lighthouse in the world. The lighthouse was built there in 1939.

It's such a INCREDIBLE location for a lighthouse, perched on a rock in Iceland's wild surf. Originally constructed and accessible only by scaling the rock on which it is situated, it is now accessible by helicopter since the construction of a helipad.

VHS machine in action: load, play, fast forward, rewind, play, seek forward and backward, stop, eject.

I admire the engineering that makes all the parts work so good together. For example, tape loading is done with one motor that is attached to a gear that can be seen in the top right corner. Thanks to different sensors and the rotary encoder that is connected to the gear, the VHS machine can also check if it is in a valid state or not and by that prevent tape damage.
