Some other simple things

8. Disable google advertising ID in phone settings

9. Install F-Droid where you can discover many FLOSS apps deliberately not published on google play

10. Switch from a fingerprint to a pin (added bonus that police in several countries can legally force your thumb onto your phone but cant legally force you to give up a pin)

11. Switch from google notification servers to something else like microg and/or set notifications to not display message content or at least not display message content when the phone is locked (Im pretty sure all that can be done from notification settings)

12. Switch from googles keyboard app to an open source alternative from f-droid (google has been fined millions before for illegally and secretly tracking geolocation it wouldnt surprise me if they do the same with keystrokes, and also mic and camera)

13. There's a bunch of other phone-home features spread across the settings but mostly under privacy category and accessibility category that you might want to turn off if you have no use for

"The Biden administration has quietly pushed more than a half-dozen countries to weaken, delay or rethink baby formula regulations aimed at protecting the public’s health — sometimes after manufacturers complained, a ProPublica investigation has found."

I looked at Librewolf and it seemed like it'd be perfect. Was still able to send tabs around from machine to machine and sync bookmarks and stuff, which is the thing I suspected wouldn't work. All worked okay, was just firefox without the bullshit they do these days.

Until it just threw javascript errors on my TTRSS install and I couldn't read my newsreader.

Only on my desktop machine mind, it was fine on the laptop.

Maybe I should try harder. Perhaps it was just a fleeting thing that would be fixed next version.

The EU bans Meta's use of personal data for behavioural advertising.

The European Data Protection Board said Wednesday it had adopted a binding decision that will ban Facebook and Instagram owner Meta from using the personal data of users for targeted advertisements.

Earlier this year Norway imposed a ban on sending Facebook and Instagram users targeted advertisements based on their personal data.

The #CSAM clusterfuck just became even more shitty:

Dutch researcher Danny Mekić has looked at #advertising data from #Twitter & says that the @EU_Commission's #DGHome has used #SurveillanceAds based on prohibited data categories to target people with #disinformation about the #ChatControl proposal.

#YlvaJohansson's department specifically targeted people in member states that had been critical of her proposal but excluded people who are likely to value #privacy.

I wonder how many brands will put their #PrideMonth money where their mouth is and pull #advertising and engagement following Musk's latest contribution to the #antitrans lurching of the platform.

(Guess - less than 7)

Frankly I have never been so glad that I shuttered my account...

🆕 blog! “The IAB loves tracking users. But it hates users tracking them.”

The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) is a standards development group for the advertising industry. Their members love tracking users. They want to know where you are, who you're with, what you're buying, and what you think. All so they can convince you to spend sligh…

When #greenwashing by #ad companies meets bad journalism.

Not at all what I expect from the #Guardian 😞

theguardian.com/environment/20…

The message here is "yes we can make tiny symbolic gestures to protect the environment, but only if it saves #advertising profits":

No ads, no bees. Would be a pity if we had to throw away the flowers!

It's beyond ridiculous! I'm going to unravel the deception in five toots:
