Friend: Ugh.

Me: What now?

Friend: This bank app. Ugh!

Me: What about it?

Friend: It says the password is weak. My memory is weak too, let me keep this password.

Me: My friend, let me introduced you to KeePassXC, a free and opensource password manager for Windows/Linux/macOS desktop and Android (KeePassDX/KeePass2Android) app. There is also KeePassium for iOS which is free and has a pro version too. You can do cloud sync if you want.

Friend: Naa. That is too much work.

Me: 😶

What about selfhhosting a TeamTalk server? Was quite the go to in my blindie bubble for years, feel like many have ditched it for Discord at this point, including me, but still works great and simple. There are server hosting providers, but I think you'd rather setup thhe server yourself, there are management scripts and all to do it, but I guess it's not that hhard without either.

In 1991, a uni student from Finland started a "hobby" project because he couldn't afford to pay expensive Unix license that could run on a commodity hardware. At the time, he told on the mailing list that his project wouldn't be anything "big or professional."

It turned out that he was totally wrong.

Happy 56th Birthday to the creator of Linux kernel and git, Linus Torvalds! May you live healthy and happy forever. Thank you for all your hard work and providing us employment and keep it FLOSS😊

My laptop is set up about six feet away from the nearest wireless access point. For various reasons, I can't use Ethernet in the part of this house where I am most of the time.

There is no good reason why I am seeing latency spikes up to 200 MS, not to a remote server in Australia, not to my first internet hop, not even to my local router, but the access point itself.

I HATE WIFI!

Time for spectrum analysis and junk, I guess.

There's a new Fediverse music streaming service showing music videos by small independent artists with their permission. You can view the channel at:

➡️ tv.theindiebeat.fm

It's like the old-style MTV but for the Fediverse 🙂

You can follow the channel at:

➡️ @TIBtv

The service runs on @owncast and you can find out more about OwnCast at:

Místo toho fouká zase ostrý studený vítr, je šedivo a občas kolem prolétne malinký bílý osamocený drobeček. No nic. My si ten den rozsvítíme jinak. Přede mnou stojí talíř s neubývající zásobou cukroví, sušeným ovocem a voňavá káva. Takže také cosi dobrého. No a vám přejeme ať si v dnešním dni naleznete cokoli, co vás učiní šťastnými. 😊

Relax 😎! GPG is not OpenPGP!

Yesterday, vulnerabilities were published gpg.fail but they don't affect #deltachat or other #chatmail clients because

A) We never used #gnupg for anything; we use the modern #rustlang #openpgp implementation @rpgp, security audited multiple times.

B) #openpgp is fine, as modernized in #RFC9580, which already warns against several #gpgfail issues (gpg didn't implement that spec)

Please spread the word that #gpg is not #openpgp ... Thanks! #39c3

@jan once details are published, and #39c3 is over, well take another look. But note that #deltachat's usage of #openpgp is intentionally minimal. #Gpgfail is a lot about failures of signature verification, and parsing problems in the gpg c-implementation but #deltachat doesn't use these mechanisms or code at all. The @rpgp folks are still studying the details, and there might be issues, so maybe also follow them for more details. Again, this doesn't affect deltachat as things stand.

The median family income in the U.S. has gone from $10,000 in 1970 to $106,000 today, an increase of 10x.

However, the median cost of a house has gone from $25,000 to $445,000, an increase of 17x.

And the median cost of a car has gone from $3,600 to $50,000, an increase of 14x.

The median cost of college has gone from $2,900 a year to $45,000, an increase of 16x.

And the average cost of healthcare per person has gone from $350 to $14,600, an increase of 42x.

OK, this is genuinely scary. It's a picture of me, aged 5. It was taken in 1960. It was scanned and uploaded to Google Photos in 2002. No one has told Google where it was taken. But the map, bottom right, is correct.

Obviously, in 1960, my father's pre-war Exakta camera did not have GPS. Could you identify, from that picture, exactly where it was taken?

Google can.

Yo 2025 kinda sucked ass, both globally and personally.
The world is on fire, people are leaning towards far right, hate is the new norm, I lost my best friend, and I felt defeated multiple times like never before.

My plea for 2026 is to be the positive change I want to see in the world, in whatever form I can manage to be, by pushing ethics and morality into software and products, by loving more openly and fiercely, and by punching Nazis in the face

Ach jo :-(

My friend is subscribed to this service called drama box. It is basically movies that are divided up into tiny episodes and you have to spend coins to continue watching them. Not only is the iPhone app an accessibility nightmare, but the acting in most of the movies is so horrible and overdone. I would never hurt her feelings by telling her that because she is totally obsessed and addicted, but it’s just the truth. Also there is no audio description, although most of the time the plots are so predictable you can figure out what’s happening.

think one time a podcast mentione this service, that I listen to. Good to know a bit more. I think the idea is that it is low budget and that allows more starting actors to get into acting in general, so these services have their place too. Their idea is that by making it smaller bites and lower budget there's not as much loss if a show does poorly, and if it does well, it can make back the money it cost to produce quite easily. We'll see how it works out in the longterm though.

Still so sad about the broken Cadence. I can barely do anything from how much guilt my soul and conscience is racked with. How could I drop it off my bed and break it. How could I be such a fool during errands to just slip it in my bag without a secondary protection around it like a case. Ugh ugh. So, what do I do when I'm guilty, record more videos. Made another one for the Tactile Engineering folks about it, even though it's late at night, guilt consumes my soul. Will probably send that one tomorrow, no point sending an e-mail this late.
The only way this could be worse is if the right display also broke. Both fell together, but the right one is perfectly OK. Things could always be worse which is what I'm trying to take comfort in.

@jstark @amir LOL! One time I did trip my Braille teacher down a flight of stairs whilst she was holding my Brailler. Oh my gosh, will never forget that. The Brailler survived with only some minor bends on the paper tray, but the teacher, well, she had to go to the nurse and later the doctor for a broken ankle. Oof. Never gonna forget that moment, the huge thunk it all made.

Sick of complaints about my keyboard resonating through my mic. I'm not going to deny that my setup isn't the best thing in the world. But face the facts. There's literally a volume slider on your end! Use it and take some responsibility for your own listening experience instead of making it my problem. It'll reach a point where I won't do anything. You'll take action for yourself and turn me down on your own. It's blunt, I know. But I can't please everyone. I'm done trying.

I write technical articles on my blog.
AIs show up in large numbers to read them, crawl them, learn from them.
Time passes. I publish a new post.

And right on schedule, someone comments:
"This was clearly written by an AI".

Which is fascinating, really.

I write.
Machines read.
I keep writing.
Then humans accuse me of being the machine.

At this point I am not sure if the problem is that AI sounds too human,
or that humans have forgotten what a human who actually studies sounds like.

Either way, I will keep writing.
Worst case scenario, the AIs will enjoy it.
Best case scenario, one day a human will too.
