In English, it's "Show indicator for bots". I think the wording it the same way might be better for Dutch as well; so: "Toon indicator voor bots".

In short: folks love the amazing decentralised encrypted comms utopia of Matrix. But organisations also love that they can use it without having to pay anyone to develop or maintain it. This is completely unsustainable, and Element is now literally unable to fund the entirety of the Matrix Foundation on behalf of everyone else - and has had to lay off some of the folks working on the core team as a result.
just learned, how horribly underfunded #Matrix is. Although it's not much, I chipped in at least a small monthly donation I can afford on #LiberaPay, where the current total monthly amount is shockingly low.

@eliasp Well it is a single-company product where specs are decided by mostly people at the same company, and is backed by cryptocurrency venture capitalists (see: bottom of matrix.org homepage), and it is steamrolling the alternatives thanks to the money it can throw around, apparently not for much longer, but so far it has failed to produce a healthy ecosystem
This is bullshit, needless to say. In fact, the problem is that there are too many companies building on top without supporting core devs. Less than half the spec proposals are written by core team members. In terms of “steamrollering other projects” - the enemy here are proprietary comms silos, not us. 😡
They also get a lot more from Patreon patreon.com/matrixdotorg and grants matrix.org/faq/#how-is-matrixo… but of course such a big project should be properly supported. I'd say governments should help fund these sort of projects and use these.
@tio yes, it really surprised me to see, they're not appropriately government-funded, since at least the German and French governments heavily make use of it.

People wonder why I am always so harsh on #LastPass. Thing is, I’ve been watching them ignore security risks for years. Yes, things that they are being warned about again and again, yet they choose not to address them.
You think unencrypted URLs are bad? Take a look at this seven years old presentation by Martin Vigo and Alberto Garcia Illera: blackhat.com/docs/eu-15/materi…. Starting with page 69 it explains how the custom_js feature could be abused to extract users’ passwords.
Guess what, this feature is still present and used on PayPal for example. Still no encryption and nothing to protect the users. No change whatsoever in at least seven years that LastPass was made aware of this issue.
Instead, when disclosing #LastPassBreach they again lie that they don’t have access to your passwords. But they do. Anyone with access to their server does. NSA could order them to extract your passwords. Hackers who gain access to their server could abuse this to get your passwords. Or just to run their JavaScript code on any website, and then they don’t even need your passwords.
And that’s only one out of the many documented backdoors that LastPass chooses to ignore, both in terms of implementation and their public communication.

thanks for honest update. For financial struggles I'd suggest foundation to focus on core chat functionality and spec. Leave the rest for third parties or later time when funding is no longer an issue.
Users are struggling with basic issues such as stuck notifications and E2EE failing for unknown reasons. New features are nice, but basic chat should be rock solid first.

@hoyden it really wasn’t meant to be petulant - just explaining how we got caught in a horrible place between rewriting the crypto and then getting stuck fixing bugs in the old crypto. will edit it to spell out that we’re grateful to the researchers (although i’m curious on what came across as petulant).
In fact, on a reread, I think the petulant vibe I read was mostly based on the frustration evident in the text. The clarification handles it very well.

zu (2) du kannst bei den einzelnen Beiträgen unter dem Punkt "Sprachen" einsehen mit welcher Wahrscheinlichkeit Friendica der Meinung ist eine Sprache in dem Text erkannt zu haben. Insbesondere bei kurzen Beiträgen ist das nicht immer eindeutig oder richtig. Das Vertrauenslevel ist der Wert an Wahrscheinlichkeit, ab dem der Erkennung vertraut wird.
1. Sprache, die Du sehen willst in die "Lesbar"-Zeile eintragen (zB "de" wie gezeigt) 2. "Den Sprachfilter verwenden" durch Haken setzen aktivieren 3. Der "Vertrauenslevel"-Schieber setzt die Zuverlässigkeit, mit der alle übrigen Sprachen erkannt und ausgeblendet werden. Im Beispiel muss sich der Algorithmus mindestens 32(%-ig (?)) sicher sein, um den Text einzuklappen. Es wäre unklug, einen sehr hohen Wert zu wählen, weil dann zu viele Sprachen nicht "sicher" erkannt würden und daher sichtbar blieben. Zu geringe Werte hingegen blenden ggf zu viele unsicher erkannte Texte aus. Musst Du ausprobieren und den für Dich akzeptablen Wert selbst finden. Und am Ende nicht vergessen, die geänderten Einstellungen unterhalb des Dialogs zu speichern.
@Deafblind Engineer @Andre Polykanine I run lou_translate from the command line I can post an example of the call of how I'm doing it later. It gives me an output in unicode braille and I can then copy and paste whenever I wish.

For most braille codes liblouis is a great source so we can be sure it's going to be right. Just change your table when calling.

Putting this together was lots of fun. Thank you for all of your interactions and encouragement. I was glad to see that I made some of you happy. Here's to hoping I can come up with something creative in the future. It was suggested to me that I should archive all of what I posted in the series. I wouldn't like to promise anything at this point but I'll look into options.
