Linux has plenty of its own problems and I am not the type to push it on even adventurous nontechnical people. But I feel confident in saying that a Linux system will never get this deeply toxically screwed up. To screw up this badly two trillion dollar corporations made a pact, and thousands of resultant engineering and UX decisions, in the belief their users are cattle who do not deserve even the most basic respect. Absolutely cooked company.

Just... look at it. Look at the contortions involved. Hours of effort, by somebody deep enough in the guts of this specific stack to know Regedit and the utilman/cmd trick, just so they could log into a machine with a full drive.

How do you trust systems, or ecosystems, like this? How?

How do you build a mental model of a system where "password wrong" means "drive is full", and you can't log in to fix it, haha no, because drive is full.

How can _anyone_ be expected to navigate a world like this?

... and you should read it, but I have to believe that she is, as she always is, being far too kind.

Maybe "being technical" just means, "I'm willing to act like this bullshit is normal and acceptable."

Embeded #youtube videos are nightmare on phones. Isn't Google the developer of one of two major phone OS? Didn't they propagate the mobile first design? Didn't they use their search engine scoring to force phone accessibility on website? Well If you are on tunneled IPv6 and without logged in google session, you get this window instead of any embeded video on any website. And there is no other way to get to the video then to log in on google.
Websites embedding youtube just give away user's privacy to google, and google carefully takes care to collect complete data set by forcing users to be signed in.

That's interesting, an artist forced me to embed YT video on his benefit page and I tried to make it as user-friendly as possible (mostly by making the video full screen on play). But I didn't see this issue. Is there a way to replicate it on my phone?

Netscape Navigator 2.0 was released 30 years ago today.

This version introduced a number of new features:

• Plugins! This was the first time a web page could make sound, via RealAudio.
• Incremental display of progressive JPEGs on slow dialup connections.
• Animated GIFs that were actually useful.
• HTML frames.
• JavaScript! That wasn't my fault, but you still have my apologies.
• And of course my baby, the first release of Netscape Mail and News:
