I just got the latest update of the Android Accessibility Suite on my Pixel 9. In Talkback 16.2, I believe you're supposed to be able to enable dictation by doing a two finger double tap in an edit field, but the gesture isn't working for me. Does anyone know if there is a setting somewhere that needs to be turned on or something? Thanks.
You need to be using GBoard for this to work, to my knowledge. Make sure GBoard is up to date. I use Sasung Keyboard, so it doesn't work here, buuuuut that's what I know.
Y'all I'm away from my Linux work machine for two whole weeks. And I come back to find...
It's still powered on. It's at the lock screen. It's ready, ready I say, for my password. No reboot needed. No secure desktop and then wait for a few seconds for Windows to consider doing its job. It just, plain, works.
Multi-provider oAuth intgrations are far harder to do than I ever thought they were. There are so many weird edge cases a user can realistically run into.
My thoughts are really random right now. One of these random thoughts_ is that maybe I'm expecting to_ _much_ from myself. As long as I don't hang in front of _my_ phone the entire day and get TikTok _addicted_, I think it can't be bad to slow down a little bit, spend less time in front of the computer trying and just keep myself out of it with some audiobooks and bible. I hope we _finally_ get an YMCA youth group again, I need to find myself somehow and that won't happen through this computer sadly. I still _don't_ really know what I want, or well, I kinda do, but I need to learn to be _consistent_ with it, and not like, mix up my entire thoughts just because my emotions play with me or something. Difficult to describe.
The reason I say that, btw, is probably kind of influenced by me spending more time outside the bubble again. I know that I need it once everything goes back to normal and I sit in the office 8 hours a day. NO sighted person would care enough to like, idk, chat with me that often, or bother about my tech stuff, etc. I'm not trying to downtalk this all, but I need, different stuff too. If not that, then that I've kinda noticed that I care less and less. Straight example, new Redspot, many people apparently at least somewhat care, honestly I see 0 reason to play it. Not trying to downtalk anybody's fun but I just don't feel like I fit into this kind of community mostly, with exception of some of the techy people. Don't feel like I fit into anything though so that doesn't mean something lol. Also I don't know whether it's good to put this on Mastodon, but I enjoy reflecting and I just can't in like a journal where it's not really directed to somebody.

There’s a number of people, especially Linux enthusiasts, that kind of go around with this very USian customer-is-always-right mentality and judge things other people make as if everything in the world has to be made specifically to cater to them
It’s a huge breath of fresh air when I see folks who will just say, “This is a fantastic product that isn’t for me”. That recognition that something can be both good and also made for someone else is a kind of maturity level I wish we saw from more people who use and talk about open source software

The first one is set to English, the FDroid one to German
Side problem: while the web version of #FDroid also shows me 2.34.0 the "app store" on #EOS always downloads 2.11.0. It even offers an update but the version stays on 2.11
I remember there was a Video Chat option in Delta Chat. Today I checked all my Android and desktop instances, and none of them have it anymore, it just disappeared.
@Claudius Link Audio / video calls have been introduced in v2.20 and refined in v2.22. At that time it was under an advanced feature flag. However now since v2.33 it's enabled by default I think. @Delta Chat (39c3) awesome work.
I think it should just be renamed to "Calls" in that menu to avoid the confusion. It doesn't say "Debug Channels" or "Debug On-demand Location Streaming", so the naming is kind of inconsistent for an experimental feature that isn't polished yet

I was told and shown some very interesting stuff at 39c3 by your team, so here's some more questions: what's the drawback of using a dedicated address on my existing SMTP server for delta chat? Someone from your team told me that you're looking to phase out that option. I'd like to avoid running a dedicated VPS just for a chatmail relay for now. If I decide to use nine.testrun.org instead, how easily will I be able to migrate to my own server in the future?
a) using a dedicated address on an existing SMTP server is supported but you might want to arrange for automatic removal of old messages on the server yourself currently. We are working on improving this supported "dedicated email address as relay" case.
b) migration is easy these days. You can start with any of the chatmail.at/relays and later migrate to a new relay via "advanced settings - relays -- add relay" and mark the new as default relay.

How frequently would I want to run a cleanup job? I could easily script something for that. As far as I understand, all messages are stored locally on the client once received, so I could just delete all messages marked as...seen on the IMAP server?
right now, for classic dedicated email addresses, you can go to the "chats-and-media / delete-from-server" setting and set it to "after download" or a higher duration if you have multiple devices on the same address that want to get messages. Once a message is downloaded, a device never looks back on the server for it.
Note: How the UX of deletion-options evolve in the next months is still under discussion. If it becomes required to do something server-side we'll document it.
The latest Paperback 7 development build now includes basic web rendering. By going to Tools and choosing Open in Web View (Ctrl+Shift+V), you can display a part of a book, say, a section or a chapter, inside a web view. How much of the book or file actually shows up in the web view is still a bit unclear to me; in EPUB books, for example, it seems to depend on the size of each chapter or section. You might ask: what’s this good for? For regular books, the web view may not be all that useful. But it can be very handy for books with specific, intentional formatting (like code samples or shell commands), where browsers have already done the heavy lifting to build a sensible accessibility tree—or for Markdown previews. Also worth mentioning: Paperback 7 (development) now supports tables as well. You can move between tables using T and Shift+T, and once you press enter in a table, you can navigate its columns and rows in a dedicated screen reader-friendly way in the same web view. You know, right after hitting send I thought about something. Should I call myself nerd? Honestly there are tons of more smarter and nerdy people than me, and somehow, I wouldn't even necessarily call me nerd, but many people do, my parents, friends, and I guess what I do is, nerdy? I don't know what I think about the association with the word nerd at this point tbh.
Its just a label, really, and everyone has their own idea of what constitutes being allowed to use said label, but ultimately, its personal. If that's who you see yourself as, and others do as well, and you're comfortable with it, then you're a nerd. If you feel like you need to qualify, no you don't, and who cares. Just be you.

Yep, it runs GPT-OSS 120b and Z-Image turbo for various boring work things (style guide corrections, concept exploration for cover art on work blogposts, etc).
And that's the fun part of beeing a nerd. Been at the YMCA the last couple of days and got recommended an audiobook, that recommendation kinda spread so it wasnt only me who wanted to hear it. So what did I do? Get it on Audible, NVDA Remote into my PC, Open Audible FTW rip it, throw it on my audiobookshelf server, and saved people money. Yup sometimes its great to be seen nerdy in a good way as you are.
Since you're seeing this on fedi -- or Bluesky, Blacksy, or elsewhere in the ATmosphere -- you already know the value of alternative social media that's not controlled by techbro white supremacist CEO's who make money by exploiting their users and working with their cronies in authoritarian governments.
But, what we have today is only the tip of the iceberg of what's possible.

As for why I chose this particular model: ⁃ it’s the biggest model that fits in my M1 Max’s RAM comfortably; ⁃ it responds almost as quickly as commercial hosted models; ⁃ it’s not pretending to know anything, it frequently tells me “I don’t know anything/enough about that, check online”; ⁃ instead, it’s just very good at English and Polish.

Whoa, I think releasing that audio production just caused a server overload. I mean I'm glad that many people want to download or listen to it! Sorry about any lag from samtupy.com's services for a bit yall, I'll be sure that the anyaudio downloading endpoint isn't acting as a CPU muncher as a start.
It might not be actual people. A few weeks ago I learned that apparently whenever any Fediverse software sees a URL, it visits it, probably so it can show users seeing it a preview of what's contained there. And apparently if that URL points to a raw audio file, it downloads the whole thing.
@jaybird110127 Luckily the URL I sent doesn't point to a raw audio file, the audio URL comes later after being provided by some dynamic javascript. Hopefully this minimizes such an issue, I need to do the same thing with the view counter though.
Keep in mind that as I understand it, this will happen with your Mastodon instance, any instances where the post federates thanks to people following you, then any instances of people who boost your post, any instances of people who follow the booster, etc.
@jaybird110127 Yep that makes sense, it explains why the clip has so many views already for sure. I'll make the view counter increment when the audio file is requested rather than the initial page, which should fix it there as well. Luckily nothing should be able to download the audio unless it executes javascript, I think.
Yeah or possibly, if you have access to server logs, and if the Anyaudio software can access the user agent, don't count those you can tell are fediverse servers or other automated crawlers.
@jaybird110127 Just don't depend on UA checks alone. They're really, really easy to fake. Best way is to test if JS is supported somehow. That too can be circumvented via headless browsers but doing that is a lot harder than just faking a user agent

@ShotgunSpoon Thanks for letting me know, indeed I did this on purpose for the time being mostly because Any Audio has no registrations yet and thus no comments, so a bunch of people could find it and have no idea how to leave feedback should they want to, I plan to toggle the clip to public as soon as registrations are enabled.

Though I think I'll always have a place in my heart for the tts worlds especially because of the age I discovered this stuff, but I have long-term aspirations of doing this sort of sound design for way more than just tts productions.
so, i listened to your any audio network welcome clip. i have a suggestion, of course, once this thing will grow up, you should consider releasing it on another seperate server from samtupy.com so you will avoid this kind of inconvenience, since even upgrading this server that you use has it's own limitations imposed by the company if i'm not wrong.
@vlad25 For anyaudio I am hopeful to implement proper database replication and load balancing so that several servers around the world can host nodes that handle bits of the anyaudio traffic. This sort of thing is pretty tricky to set up and get right in a bug free manner though. Indeed, however, we are quickly reaching the limits of my poor small server with all of these releases and I'll probably have to adapt accordingly in some sense.
well, yeah, load balancing is a good way in later stages, because you actually need a serious income for paying for so manny servers, especially that you need powerfull ones, not just some small server like 4 GB ram. you would need a machine and just for yourself. which means a dedicated instance, which means lots of money monthly.
