Apt that while at #SOOCon23 I can share that our Our colleagues in the #OpenSource policy team @NHSTransform have published this set of digital playbooks to encourage open source development, testing, adoption, and deployment.

And great to see our case study included: a model to predict a patient's length of stay at admission. Developed as an #opensource from inception alongside our colleagues at @gloshospitals who are now deploying it in the wild.

@valiant8086 I presume it's not been specifically trained on audiobooks, or if it has, it's a young model. Speaker recognition in a fiction work is hardly a trivial matter, not to mention a bank of voiceform adaptations to connect to each speaker, which then also need to be run through whatever tone or intent deterministic algorithm they already use, which will often include markers outside the dialogue. Complex business! But who'd have predicted such results even to this standard?

There's a fine blog post by @eschaton on Clascal, the early object-oriented Pascal that Apple used to build application software for the Lisa. Check it out: eschatologist.net/blog/?p=314

Once you've learned about Clascal, *why not go a step further and parse it?*

A few weeks ago I released a Pascal (subset) to BASIC compiler at github.com/stepleton/mupas . But why Pascal? It's because I once implemented a language grammar a long time ago and then did nothing with it.

Starting from that old grammar saved me a lot of compiler writing work. The language itself wasn't so important --- if it had been, say, Rexx, I might have written a Rexx compiler. But it wasn't Rexx. It wasn't even just a Pascal grammar: it was Clascal.

If you'd like to parse some Clascal, visit the URL above and check out the files that start with `p`.

(One note for @eschaton : I don't think Wirth was involved with Clascal itself, only Object Pascal --- see articles mentioned on this thread: twitter.com/SciPasTips/status/… )

A powerful and deadly earthquake struck Türkiye and Syria.

Our support is on the way.

We have activated the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. Search and Rescue teams from Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, France, Greece, the Netherlands, Poland, and Romania are at work. Italy and Hungary have also offered their teams.

Our Emergency Response Coordination Centre will monitor the situation and provide the required support.

Our thoughts are with the families of the victims and the brave first responders.
