After a long development cycle, the first NVDA 2024.1 beta release will apparently be out this week. While this is exciting, God knows when, or if, some of my add-ons, including the very essential BrowserNav and SentenceNav and TextNav all provided by a single developer, will be updated for Python compatibility. @NVAccess

Food

One of my special dishes that I cook for friends, which is quite a spectacle, is my tea-smoked chicken (or duck. Or tofu).

It was one of my fave dishes to order in nice Chinese restaurants back in my part of the world, but the secret is I cook this so as to get rid of the tea I’ve ordered that I don’t love.

This recipe is pretty close to what I do. I also smoke in a wok, with spices:

I serve it with Singapore-style chicken rice.

Spot on reading for those of us who have found ourselves in the nonprofit industrial complex. Anyone have other recommended readings?

"However, we need to admit that boards in general are seriously problematic. I have a Rule of One-Thirds when it comes to boards: 1/3 of them are helpful, 1/3 are useless, and 1/3 are actually harmful. This means that 2/3 of nonprofit boards are useless or harmful. For every good-board story, there are countless tales of crappy boards."

I launched my new #SVG Projects page today, including my SVBraille text file which lets you create properly formed braille in your file without external fonts! I put copious notes in the comments and on the Project page on how to set it all up, but if you can make SVG groups and know how to set up the Use element and can do a tiny bit of math, you are good to go! :) blindsvg.com/pages/projects/

You've been traveling for a while as a soft rain wanders in from far away. You've been looking for an excuse to take a rest, and this seems like a perfect opportunity. Finding a secluded part of a gentle stream, you sit down and relax into the small, yet inexplicably large, natural phenomenon. You've always wondered why they call this place the elementals delight as, just in that moment, a sound and a water spirit appear out of the storm and momentarily join forces, surrounding and shielding you from the water from overhead. They share this moment with you for a while before parting ways with you, floating off into the cool afternoon.

I druhá adventní neděle v klášteře, tedy v Literárním domku v zahradě.

Artificial Divide is a new anthology of short fiction by Blind and partially-Blind authors showing readers how they thrive, hurt, get revenge, outsmart bullies, or go on epic adventures. Artificial Divide is an own-voices story collection that captures the many layers of Blindness and, for once, puts blind protagonists in the driver’s seat, letting them take the lead in guiding us on new adventures.

Kids nowadays are being constantly exposed to things they should not. They should be protected at all costs.

I can say at the very least that being transparent on how personal data are used (on any website/app/service) is, rather, mandatory in my opinion.

Update:

By scrolling through the comment section a bit more carefully, this "educational" video is misleading, using false claims, with children, that are super easy to convince, being the victims.

This is bad.

#MakanApaToday So the “Small Town Kopitiam” at Kajang not too far from my place has opened. It’s pretty much a regular Malaysian Chinese mini-foodcourt-style kopitiam with fancier interiors and a dozen stalls selling a variety of food. Pretty decent prices since it targets students from New Era College. It also happens to sell very good Portuguese egg tarts. #MalaysianFood #food

2FA keys work if you're rich enough to afford them and if your housing situation is stable enough to have a place for them, probably not true for the majority of people globally. Password managers do help, but the ability to intercept your master password this way is useful on its own, and potentially far more destructive than intercepting a single password to a single website. It's tradeoffs all the way down.
