The long awaited AudioToot.

Interesting! I see that it got republished in small numbers, copyright wise it is no longer protected. fr.de/kultur/literatur/hitlers… sees it still forbidden as "propaganda", but en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mein_Kam… sees unmodified versions as not covered by the ban.
Fixing the article.

I, unironically, love Reddit. But it's just USENET with a better UI, and a few moderation improvements.

Most days I use DropBox. But it's just FTP, but a bit easier to use and automate.

I waste a lot of time on Slack. When I explain it to old-school nerds, I say it's IRC - but developed by someone who gives a damn about user experience.

Most people in the world don't have access to WWW. Instead, they use Facebook which gives them a much simpler way to post photos and share their thoughts. It doesn't ask them to hand-edit an .htaccess file.

I don't know anyone who uses Listserve. It turns out that Telegram is faster, more convenient, and doesn't require esoteric commands.

Indeed, why bother with Email? You don't need to learn how to configure SMTP when you have WhatsApp.

What other, classic, decentralised Internet tools have been turned from open protocols to closed and proprietary services?

A large part of this is our fault. And, by us, I mean gatekeeping nerds. We developed tools which were unforgiving. We had no interest in the "soft" skills of empathy. We were too socially-awkward to speak to real users. We were insular and we liked it! Worse than that - we revelled in it.

Unix is user-friendly — it's just choosy about who its friends are.

LOL! ROFL! LMAO!

And then Apple eats everyone's lunch by relentlessly focussing on being user friendly. Good for them. But it means handing over control to a single organisation.

I don't claim to be any good at user experience - far from it. But I despair at some of the redecentralised efforts I see springing up. They are technically brilliant, and follow the open-source philosophy of scratching one's own itch. And they all - without fail - are terrible to use.

Redecentralisation won't happen because of us nerds. It must happen despite us. Despite our ingenuity and despite our self-infatuation. It must be inclusive, and put user-needs at its very heart.

Do 6.

More details about the end of #IPv4 in state services: On 18th of December 2013 Czech #government decided that every service provided by Czech state has to be available on #IPv6 and be protected by #DNSSEC by 30th of June 2015. Yesterday a followed up action has been agreed on. On 6th of June 2032, IPv4 will be disabled on all services offered by Czech republic and they will be only available on IPv6 from that day on. Apart from that, every June starting from 2025, Czech government will get a report on how are the preparations.

Overall seems like a bold move, but I totally support it! IT sends a message, that #IPv4 is over and everybody should move to #IPv6 already. And even government - the definition of conservative and bureaucratic institution - gets it. Then why shouldn't you embrace it 😉

inba z newagiem po wywiadówce w sejmie (1/7)

Obejrzałem dzisiejsze posiedzenie parlamentarnego zespołu ds. walki z wykluczeniem transportowym. Tematem były pociągi Newagu. Jeśli kogoś jakimś cudem sprawa ominęła, zostawiam link:
zaufanatrzeciastrona.pl/post/o…

Mimo to stanowiska DS i przewoźników były interesujące i pozwoliły paru trupom wypaść z szafy.

New #research from Consumer Reports offers a rare look into the scope of Meta's online surveillance.

It goes way beyond what most may expect—Meta can know many of the websites you visit and even what you’re doing IRL.

Hey Mastodon Friends!

I have a request.

I’m in month 3 of furlough, and I am in need of a new job opportunity. It’s not what I want, but what I must do for my family.

I’m a US-based frontend developer/designer with over 20 years experience. I’ve been working on a lot of design systems for clients, and would love to go in-house.

Here is my website résumé page: zastrow.co/resume

I know it's a tough market right now, but any insight, leads, or feedback is incredibly helpful.

Thanks!

If you use the #flatpak version of #deltachat_desktop and it crashes 💥 when you click on notifications or unread chats -> you can disable notifications as workaround to get rid of the crashes.

We unfortunately haven't found a solution for this problem yet. 😢

Seems to be related to a libnotify portal + electron issue.

If you want to know more or know something that could help us to fix this problem, the issue is here:
