@matt Thanks Matt! I should also stress that this is a piece you kinda need to read all the way through. A few people have come away from reading the headline with the idea that I just don't like git commit signing specifically and they should turn it off as opposed to turning it on. For some people, in some situations, it makes perfect sense and it's a fine security primitive. To quote one of the last paragraphs of the blog:

> Git commit signing itself is not particularly consequential

Stacie Ponder's writeup of some of the feminist art references/recreations in Suspiria (2018) is really fascinating. Dan caught some of these in the teaser before they were cut, but neither of us knew how extensive and careful the homage was. finalgirl.rocks/2019/10/suspir…

I’ve seen a variety of folks talking about US war tax lately so…

I was a war tax resister in the 1990s, and we would up our claimed dependents # from zero to 8 so no taxes were taken out of our checks. The US gov eventually caught up with me.

That said, War Tax Resisters League has instructions for a variety of tax scenarios:

For those of you that really hate windows 11, and like windows 10 there is now a song for you. I told www.udio.com to make an 80's pop song about windows 10 being better than windows 11. I got it to make I believe a 4 minutes and 22 seconds song, and here it is for your listening pleasure.

54 years ago, at 10:06 PM EST, Monday, April 13, 1970, the Apollo 13 Mission Control heard these fateful words "Houston, we've had a problem here."

055:55:19 Lovell: ...Houston...
055:55:20 Swigert: ...we've had a problem here.

055:55:26 Fenner (GUIDO): FLIGHT, GUIDANCE.
055:55:27 Kranz (FLIGHT): Go GUIDANCE.

055:55:28 Lousma: This is Houston. Say again, please.

After 4 days of hardships, heroism, improvisations and ingenuity, the crew landed safely on Earth.

There is an interesting website that has a detailed real-time look at every moment of the Apollo 13 mission, with audio track from every mission control channel.

The malfunction sequence starts at 55:55:19.

This famous jerry-rigged "mailbox" was used to scrub the CO2 in the the Apollo 13 lunar module that was the lifeboat for the 3 astronauts.

The contraption solved the problem of fitting the lithium hydroxide cylindrical shaped scrubbers of the lunar module with the cubic shaped ones stored in the command module.

I keep thinking about a recent article in Nature by Talhelm and Dong that appears to confirm the theory that the staple crops (in this case wheat versus rice) can influence collectivistic cultural tendencies.

In particular, it makes me wonder how the #milpa impacted Indigenous North American cultures. A milpa is a #Native agroecological system largely centered around growing corn, beans and squash in the same field. It is intense, highly productive and also provides a complete and healthy diet in a very small amount of land.

I suspect that milpas lead to even more individualistic tendencies, which could explain the large linguistic and cultural diversity of North America and how it led to dense urban societies so quickly.

FediMeta, my blocklists

Made an edit to my blocklist article.

Before:

“All lists, just like all my content on seirdy.one, are CC-BY-SA licensed. Feel free to use them in your own projects accordingly.”

After:

“All these lists, just like all my content on seirdy.one, are CC-BY-SA licensed. However, I’d rather you not use them in another blocklist-related project without contacting me first. I made a lot of decisions about how these blocklists work and learned some tough lessons; I’d rather not see someone repeat my mistakes.”

They’re still under a free cultural license; I’m just describing a preference, not a legal requirement. Accordingly, I’ve asked The Bad Space to not use me as a source anymore. If you want to use these lists in your blocklist project, let’s chat first.

While we’re on that topic, I wanted to highlight another unrelated clarification I made earlier:

“I encourage blocklist skeptics to read the “receipts” sections, and to treat them as lists of reported content rather than importable blocklists.”

I was curious what would happen if I directed Udio to make a Beach Boys style song. I decided to change up the prompts in the middle and the result is a female vocalist spicing things up and wild spacial audio stuff they did in productions back in the 50s when stereo was a new thing. First time I've heard AI do that.

Time for another release... Accrescent 0.19.0 is out! While not much has changed on the surface, Accrescent now uses our new server infrastructure which brings faster downloads to everyone!

This is Google Maps info on the Papa John's Pizzeria near the #Pentagon right now

notice something interesting about the little "busier than usual" indicator

and, why would that be, gentle reader?

I finally, after many months, have an official website, and a projects page! There's still work that needs done (for example I want to clean up the pages for my blog posts, make the home page actually have more info etc.), but it works now! quinbox.xyz/
A huge thank you goes out to my good friend Sam Tupy for messing with Cobalt for an actual website enough to inspire me to mess with it for my own site, not just the blog.
