Let Readers Read

#InternetArchive: "Our position is straightforward; we just want to let our library patrons borrow and read the books we own, like any other library. [...] But the publishers suing our library say we shouldn’t be allowed to lend the books we own. They have forced us to remove more than half a million books from our library, and that’s why we are appealing".

@keith You’d need to take into account people who want their contact information on there instead of just their registrar’s.

Contact points for domain issues that are unlikely to be the registrar’s fault can be useful for some orgs. An abuse contact that isn’t the registrar can be more useful if the org wants to be the first to know about an issue, or if the registrar is unlikely to hold the registrant accountable. Run some queries on domains own by large companies and you’ll see somewhat little WHOIS privacy despite it being easy for them to obtain.

So you’d need the default to have WHOIS privacy, and an opt-in to put your own contact information…which isn’t too different from the current landscape. NameCheap, Porkbun, I think Google Domains, etc. all offer WHOIS privacy by default.

This time last year, NV Access was incredibly grateful to be named as a recipient of the Helen Keller AccessAbility Award. This award recognises industry leaders who are prioritising accessibility and inclusivity for the blind, DeafBlind and low vision communities. We were incredibly proud to be recognised alongside Kellogg's, Netflix, P&G, NaviLens, and Compass365.

We thank our dedicated community and our wider supporter base for your ongoing efforts and support!

My manager had a regularly scheduled all hands meeting, which included a lot of people. He ambushed me (in a good way) with a tribute to me. It started out with the intro music to the def sec podcast and a slide with some funny things I instituted/commonly said at work. There was a parade of people saying nice things and then he asked me to say some words. I held it together for about 30 seconds and then, me an oversized, over the hill seasoned vice president of a Fortune 500 company, broke down crying in front of several hundred people.

Anyhow, I hope your Thursday is good.
