Yeah...naw. @404mediaco in their tradition of breaking all kinds of news, would like to tell you that you're not insane, and the pundits were wrong.

404 brings receipts: Cox Media Group (CMG) says it can target adverts based on what potential customers said out loud near device microphones, and explicitly points to Facebook, Google, Amazon, and Bing as CMG partners.

MindSift boasted about targeting advertisements by listening to peoples’ everyday conversations through microphones in their smart speakers.

I'm curious as to where you stand regarding top management positions in access technology companies that make products for the blind, such as Freedom Scientific, Humanware, etc. Do you feel that they should also be filled by a blind person?

@DavidGoldfield Yes. Absolutely. Few of them have ever conducted an open process for filling those roles. I don’t think Freedom or HumanWare ever have. I have been surprised more people haven’t objected to this.

I am hoping to get on a Facetime call with someone who knows about #3DPrinting so that I can sort of show what's going wrong with my printer, because I feel like explaining my printer issues with my Ender 3 V 2 isn't enough, showing someone with experience might just be the way to do it, but no one on Be My Eyes seems to have experience, so I am reaching out for help. Please boost, and if you have 3DPrinting experience, especially with a printer like the Ender 3 V 2, that would be most helpful, I'd even be willing to pay for help at this point because no matter what I do, my prints always come out like blobs of PLA instead of actual good prints, and the only way to learn how to do printer maintenance is to get help from a person who can go through it with me and show me where everything is so that I can do it myself. I am #Blind and YouTube videos don't work in helping me know what to do to fix my printer if indeed it needs to be fixed, or if my settings on Slic3R are set wrong and that is the problem, I've tried everything I know with no good result.

I looked for an existing markdown extension file format that would allow me to write a document in multiple languages, and I couldn't find anything that fit the bill.

Dealing with the most maddening Sims 4 bug. Sims have personal feelings about other Sims called sentiments, which drive how they interact with each other. A sim that feels bitter to another will lash out at them.

I've had a couple who, for reasons I couldn't figure out, were randomly mean to each other for things I couldn't figure out. From marriage up until their kids were ready to graduate high school, they've had a super rocky relationship compared to other couples. My main sim kept yelling at her husband, and eventually he started getting negative sentiments toward her.

Turns out, sentiments were sticking around for far longer than they should. As married adults with two children, she was bitter this whole time because.... He didn't invite her to prom once. That's it. That's what caused a lifetime of bitterness toward each other

I've removed the stuck sentiments manually and fixed their relationship, and observed them for a few days in game. After smoothing things over they've not been mean to each other at all. They've been super loving, like they should have been all along 🥹

I might schedule a vow renewal for them since they never had a proper wedding ceremony

You know, I miss the days when including a web-based frontend was kind of considered mandatory for a web app, rather than bundling a single-page, API-driven thing as a separate project:

On the flip side, it does at least avoid the problem of the bundled front-end being completely inaccessible and any alternative front-end that might be more accessible ending up as a second class citizen with only half the possible functionality. Mastodon is an example of this for me, where I think something like Semaphore is a far better client, but if you were to set up a Mastodon server, you'd also get all the bulk of the coupled Mastodon front-end.

I just learned that on Discord, if you open the GIFs from tenor.com in your web browser, the graphics actually have an alt text attribute. Neat.. Kinda wish Discord would have grabbed that and used it as the label instead of just "GIF" button, but what can you do?

Just removed the iOS version of Microsoft 365 from my phone. I’m fed up with its implementation of Word not working well with my Bluetooth keyboard, in that characters would be missing at random while typing, even though I was actually typing everything correctly, forcing me to go through my document and add the missing characters. I don’t recall experiencing this behavior with other word processors for iOS like Pages or Ulysses. Glad Word still works great for Windows.
