I randomly stumbled across the answer why #BambuLab #3dprinting is blocking #internetarchive:

Someone on #Reddit complained about #BambuLab changing their warranty after they bought something and refusing service based on the new "terms". They used @internetarchive to prove that the change was made.

So obviously #Bambu did the right thing.. and blocked the #Internet #Archive...

It's not #enshittification if you do it from the start? :p

A propos of nothing, is there a way to verify since when #BambuLab has been blocking @internetarchive ?
It appears to apply to all of *.bambulab.com

Try it for yourself: web.archive.org/web/2025000000…

I have never seen this in my life.

I can think of very few things that are less trustworthy than blocking @internetarchive

Anyway, archive.is exists, so I did a thing:
* archive.is/NAIsu
* archive.is/fjmTe

One of my mantras is "when people tell you who they are, believe them".

Or don't, but then please shut up when the leopards eventually eat your face.

As expected, #BambuLab released the standard corporate press release

1. All those things we just invented as the criticism we didn't do
2. Sure, you can use "developer mode" and lose our support
3. We tried to work with others, and it's their fault they didn't do it fast enough and by our rules
4. Everyone else is at fault for this misunderstanding though we might have contributed in the slightest of ways
5. "I am sorry that you are upset"

As the #BambuLab users are slowly waking up to what blog.bambulab.com/firmware-upd… means, it's a good time to remind everyone that the writing has been on the wall from day one.

It's not a "told you so", mind. It's a "this will continue and get worse". #Bambu will continue to tighten the ratchet.

#Prusa is far from perfect, but they deliver reliable #3dprinting based on open source software at an acceptable cost.

And if you missed it: they allow you to maintain warranty with custom firmware again.

BambuLab basically locks down their entire 3D printer ecosystem with this ridiculous cloud authorization system.

You want to print locally via your LAN? Sorry, the cloud needs to authorize your g-code first.

Want to use another slicer to send your job to the printer? Sorry, no.

Would it really still surprise anyone if DRM'd filaments are next on their agenda? Their printers are good, their prices are cheap, but please, stop supporting this company.

Holy shit.

That is a masterclass in how to _not_ handle accessibility request in #OSS.

Prusa needs to do better. Frankly, probably all #3dPrinting tools need to be better, but how this was handled is egregious.

The one positive takeaway was the reference to See3D in the issue thread. Glad I found out about that as it seems like a good organization.

Someone on Reddit asked a question that showed honest interest in #3DPrinting but just didn't understand what you could meaningfully do with it. They also had a bunch of misconceptions about its limitations.

As a result, I've put together a blog post that should hopefully give curious folks a good idea of what you can really do with a 3D Printer other than make silly things to put on your desk. Includes many examples.

😂 #3Dprinting #enclosure

For those interested in accessibility and #3DPrinting, I need people to comment on the following Github issue. Prusa Slicer has always had accessibility issues for screen reader users, but the latest versions have gotten much worse. #a11y #prusa github.com/prusa3d/PrusaSlicer…

Alright, folks. How many people would be interested in an open, durable, user-serviceable burr coffee grinder that costs under $40 in parts and #3dprinting filament?

Repost for reach. I want to see if it's worth publishing.
