Question for any #blind people who do video recording or streaming: How accessible is OBS Studio (obsproject.com/) with screen readers on the three major desktop platforms? I've never tried it.
OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) is free and open source software for video recording and live streaming. Stream to Twitch, YouTube and many other providers or record your own videos with high quality H264 / AAC encoding.
I personally find it at least daunting, for not using strong language here. But I know at least two totally blind people and one nearly blind person that use it with success.
@menelion Not very accessible. You can navigate the UI, but it's a bit hard to set it up and rely on that setup going forward. I know that some folks managed to make it work though! It's definitely worth a try, but be prepared to explore and hack!
For basic screen recording it took me under 10 minutes to figure out how to set it up and assign a hotkey to toggle screen recording. There's some object nav required in the hotkey assignments page, but I guess I'm just used to it. You only need to add your PC screen as a source and then start recording. System audio and microphone audio are handled automatically and there are checkboxes and hotkeys to toggle them. I'm going to use it for work going forward, so let me know if you run into problems and I might be able to help. I haven't done much with it, but I learned a lot just by looking through the UI.
on Windows it's pretty usable. Sorta depends on what you want to do but I've been using it for years to stream and record screencasts. Not sure about mac/linux
I find it to be very accessible on Windows, obviously things like aligning visual sources on screen is a thing that is most likely not going to work reliable any time soon except with AI help anyway, you'd need sighted help for that, but everything else works just fine. Mac is a totally different story though, I just know one person who's happy with it on Mac with VoiceOver, everyone else who I know didn't manage to get it going reliably.
@ToniBarth It's getting better on Mac, but there are still some things that are kind of annoying to do which can be attributed to QT Accessibility being sub par compared to Windows or Linux even though it's improved somewhat. The biggest issue with it on Mac is pop up menus, like the one you get when you go to add a source or opening the context menu for one can only be navigated with the VO trackpad commander. If you try to arrow through it or use the VO keys it kicks you out, so unless you have a macbook or an external trackpad it's nearly impossible to set up. Also, the record button has to be pressed with space or enter, because doing a vo-space will mark it as checked but not actually start recording which I guess is some accessibility press not being interpreted properly by the app. If you keep that in mind it's pretty comparable to the Windows version and I successfully used it to make screen recordings.

I remember reading in some release notes for an update of GS/OS (the native operating system for the Apple IIGS) in the early 90s that they changed some error dialogs to have a "Continue" button rather than "OK", in acknowledgement that errors generally aren't OK. Since the Apple IIGS GUi was more or less a port of the Macintosh Toolbox, I wonder if classic Mac OS ever did the same thing. I wasn't enough of a classic Mac user to know.
@matt the sort of toolbox-level error reporting I saw most often on classic MacOS would usually say "restart" because most errors you encounter on a cooperatively multitasking single-threaded operating system, are just fully 'game over' :)

The downside of our project approach was that we often got experts being very dismissive on re-using email and #OpenPGP ... and there still is some opposition which often subsides when actually trying #deltachat and #chatmail, looking at security audits and our strong usable security focus.
There may also be surprising upsides. The UK "Online Safety Bill" which attacks end-to-end encryption integrity seems to not apply for ... e-mail. Because everyone knows, e-mail is unencrypted, right? :)

It might be worth pointing out that not only people with visual and/or auditory impairments benefit from #AltText. It can be useful in many other ways, too.
To me, as an #autistic person whose perception and information processing work in quite different ways, it is not always clear what the point of an image is. Some good alt text can help a lot.
Some clarifying background info in alt text can also be very useful for the general public (which helps to normalise the use of alt text).

@Totobal if you're running a dev version the best place is to go to the github and expect that there's a very high chance you may just be out of luck for months.
@Totobal Why should RSS be broken, when your bot possibly is broken? I have a lot of RSS feeds in my timeline. They do work! ??
After the configuration is complete, the functionality should be ensured. The bot usually does not deliver results immediately, but only after a certain time (depending on the target system). So you should have some patience.
