if you put all your important stuff in Jails then you can just have 14.3 jails and the host OS can be 15.0. You get the stable stuff you want in the jails, and the bleeding edge kernel, ZFS, networking stack, etc outside the jails. That makes things a lot easier to deal with too, especially when it comes to situations where the packages for the software you want might not be building correctly on 15 yet

Hi, I'm micr0, the creator of Altbot.

Almost a year ago, your incredible generosity helped us raise the funds to buy the server that Altbot runs on today (locally and privately) It's been operating from my home ever since, and I'm so grateful for the support that made that possible.

But now, the situation has become unsustainable. My home network is under a sustained, targeted DDoS attack aimed at taking Altbot offline. And unfortunatly this isn't just a threat to the bot, it's a serious security and privacy concern for my family.

A lot of people are probabaly going to be asking the same question I did: "Who is doing this?"
but the honest answer is: I don't know, and I likely never will. These attacks are launched through botnets and proxies designed specifically to hide the source. Figuring out the "who" is nearly impossible. The only thing I can do is focus on the "how to stop it."

Running this critical service from a residential address is no longer viable. To protect Altbot and my family, we need to move the server to a professional data center with proper, enterprise DDoS mitigation.

The Goal: $2,880 to cover 12 months of secure colocation.

This will provide a secure, stable home for Altbot with:

  • Enterprise-grade DDoS protection
  • 99.95%+ uptime guarantee
  • 24/7 monitoring and security
  • Separation from my personal home network

Donations can be made via:

This isn't just about maintaining a service. It's about ensuring that an important accessibility tool remains available for everyone who depends on it, while also protecting my family's privacy and safety.

Please consider supporting if you can. If you're unable to donate, boosts are incredibly valuable for raising awareness.

Thank you for your support and for believing in Altbot's mission.

Magic! ✨

V Liberci to neni o nic lepsi. Zazil jsem mnoho kurioznich situaci naproti me oblibene kavarne ve Frydlantske (je tam par uradu a parkoviste asi 150m pod kopcem - samozrejme prazdne).

Pani prijela, zaparkovala na blikackach a pak si vsimla policisty ... 10 minut na sebe zirali, nez to policista vzdal, zrusil ocni kontakt a pani mohla vypnout motor a jit na urad.

Jednou jsem tam videl takhle auto zablokovat sanitku. Borci s nositky sebehli a s panem ten kopec zase vybehli.

I read the following from the Meta website from the Meta Ray-Ban Display Glasses FAQ. It seems that the new display glasses will have a screen reader which is very good news, although I wonder how much you'll be able to do with them beyond reading and sending messages. For instance it would be very cool if you could make shortcuts with the neural band for certain AI prompts, like tap two fingers together instead of saying "Hey Meta, what am I looking at?", and if third-party apps could be developed for them that would be amazing. Or if you could browse the web or navigate through your social media feeds.

How to use screen reader on Meta Ray-Ban Display
Screen reader reads aloud important text and interactive content on your device’s display. You can control screen reader using Meta Neural Band or the glasses touchpad.
- Meta Neural Band:
○ Swipe with your thumb to move between items.
○ Tap with your index finger to hear an item read aloud.
○ Double tap with your index finger to select or activate an item.
- Glasses touchpad:
○ Swipe with one finger to move between items.
○ Single tap to have the item read aloud.
○ Double tap to select or activate an item.

Two weeks ago I gave a talk in #nixcon 2025 on the infrastructure and tooling used to build #nixos. You can view the talk here media.ccc.de/v/nixcon2025-5637…

Huge thank you to the AV team for the stellar video and audio quality!

I just finished an article on how to convert an older #mac to a #nixbook

Yay for #linux and #nixos !!

This article is written with a non technical audience in mind. You still have to be tech curious, but even regular non nerdy folks should be able to follow this guide.

Pondering what to shoot tomorrow at the VMR car show. Last week was Phoenix 200 (the old one). I have another roll of that. It's medium format 6x6 so it's 12 frames.

Expired film has been in the freezer most of its life.

Hmmm Portra has more muted colours but beautiful nature and skintones.

Phoenix is super punchy and would work best outside in bright light because of how narrow it's exposure window seems to be from experience.

I'm going with either Slide film or Phoenix, especially if it's 120 and 6x6 - seems to handle better in the larger format - but I love punchy colours.

If you're looking for a more 'retro' vibe the Portra would probably be best.

> The health benefits of sunlight may outweigh the risk of skin cancer

> More sun might improve your heart and immune system. Just don’t get sunburnt

Well yeah, but you can get sunburnt in like 15 minutes without protection so what exactly do you want people to do? Go outside for 15 minutes once a week? Is the goal to convince people to stop using sunblock? What is the point of this goddamn article

OR is the point that the lower cardiovascular and cancer rates is actually caused by being active outside?

in reply to feld

Sure they did. Which is my point. The upper class stayed inside.
E.g. many dont know that the light just after sunrise activates the natural skin "protection". Eyes register certain frequencies and the brain emits some hormone for the skin to adapt.

I dont dispute you can burn m(

Just that it is odd how it was NOT a cultural thing like frostbites e.g.

UVA making your skin age quicker is also a fact and was known, hence the umbrellas.

in reply to feld

maybe, I dont deny this. But why was it not a cultural thing? There should be ... stuff pointing at this problem.
We have all kind of weird signs, traditions and words. I expect some church freskos to have references or old medicinal books. I ask everybody. This is not personal against you ;)
The theory that vegetable oils make our skin more vulnerable is a very good start. Or something else. Maybe soap? Nobody checked.

that's an interesting theory and I don't doubt that vegetable oils are Not Good For Us in various ways, but we know for a fact that alcohol degrades your skin and alcohol consumption has massively increased over time so that seems like a more obvious place to start looking, really

in reply to CapitalB

@CapitalB also I don't think we have any insight into what the ozone layer was like beyond the last...60 years maybe? (would need to check, unsure)

Entirely possible the industrial revolution increased our exposure to higher levels of UV. Then again even volcanic eruptions can do plenty of damage on their own. I don't think we have any reasonable data except making estimates about certain things from core samples.

There are a lot of variables here. I do not dismiss the idea that something in our modern diet is making people more vulnerable. I don't think it's seed or vegetable oils, though.

If there was even a shred of truth to this there'd already be a device on the market you could buy that emits the correct wavelength to activate this, like a SAD lamp but for pre-outdoor activities. Or a pill that releases the hormone.

I have no choice but to assume you're just repeating what you saw on some conspiracy theory Youtube channel if you can't give me direct links to studies that have proven this to be true.

Unless the next conspiracy is that Big Sunscreen is hiding this technology from us

Trying to pick up a project that I had to set aside for the past few weeks, and finding it mentally hard to focus. I'm not as good at context switching as a computer I guess. And, totally unrelated, but I'm thinking of migrating to mindly.social, partly because it seems not to have the 500-character limit for posts, and, afaik, the instance I'm on still does.
