арахнофобия - это расстройство и его лечат. но в ходе лечения арахнофобии людям не рассказывают, что каракурты безопасны, их нужно развести в доме как можно больше, играть с ними и чесать им спинки.

а вот с исламистами почему то не так.

Under the ADA, state and local governments, public schools, community colleges, and public universities will soon have to conform to WCAG 2.1 AA. Depending on the size of the population served, entities have until April 2026 and April 2027 to comply.

Fun with Codex this weekend.
Updated my goofy little AI Space game, now renamed Space Junk. Now invaders will move around as they fall on higher levels, also centralized a lot of game logic between this and the music scale game. i.e. screen reader buffers, music/game volume.
Goal is to build on this structure and add more silly little timewasters. Ideas welcome.

There should be a law that prohibits online service companies from *requiring* phone numbers to create an account. Have you noticed how difficult it is to sign up for any online service these days unless you have a phone number? Why do I have to pay a subscription to a third party to use your service? Why is a tithe to a phone company a requirement to access your online product?

Really like this version of All Too Well by Taylor Swift. Kinda reminds me of #christmas for some reason, no idea why. youtu.be/6gQRGcMlOQI?si=5USjo5…

This is for any screen reader users who also do code review, merge/pull request management, that kind of thing: how do you do it? I'll slowly get more and more of that sort of task in the coming months. Merge conflicts are bad enough to deal with, and that's for code I wrote. How do I deal with blame, conflicts, diffs, change history, and the like efficiently?

Today I checked elementary OS's website, because I was curious if elementary OS 8.1 had released yet. And nothing. It turns out I just checked two hours early, because it just released right now!

It brings fractional display scaling. Finally! I have been whining about this for way too long. And now it's here. The Wayland session is now the default session, and a lot of other goodies, and as always with elementary, a huge focus on accessibility, which couldn't be a bigger deal.

Huge props to the @elementary team, and congratulations to them!

My laptop is giving me the side-eye right now. It knows what's about to happen. :D

Viewpoint 2.0 just has been released.
The update includes support for Gemini 3, improved speed, the removal of the deprecated 2.0 models, better PDF support, drag-and-drop support, and more.

(Please don't assotiate me with the development or lead of the product, I just decided to post it as I saw it.)

I've considered doing a pre-recorded Let's Play of RimWorld where I describe how the game works, and as much of the mechanics as I can. that being said, I imagine the mod will get updates and so some older videos may be slightly out of date. I've got a post running with a poll asking if people would be interested in a Let's play. The poll is split exactly 50 percent down the middle. Please vote if you haven't already. youtube.com/post/UgkxNZKLfQ_oO…

A system monitor app has been one of the top requested default app additions for quite some time, and we now ship with one!

We’re also now shipping Maps, which currently covers the basics like Explore and Transit maps, showing your current location, searching for locations, and handling `geo://` uri links. Plus Application settings now has a setting to select your default Maps app.

Sad to hear that Chris Rea passed away today. I haven't heard Driving Home for Christmas yet this year, so I'm dusting off a cover I wrote and recorded a few years ago on a fundraiser album. This version is what might happen if a blind person decided to drive home for Crimbo, with everything you're hearing being done by actual blind people. Well, everything apart from the driving (didn't have the budget for a car or good lawyers).

Credits:
David Eagle did the lead vocal.
My guy Dwight Brady did the angry drivers/traumatic adlibs, was also the tiny child at the end.
@technowitch was the police dispatcher.
Ché Martin was the swat team commander.
Satauna Howery was the news reader near the end.
Dwight again on drums.
Me on bass, all the button-pushy production stuffs and writing stupid lyrics (before AI could do that BTW, mentioning so you know who to blame).
@daygar on piano/keys/strings.
Chris Faelnar on guitar.

All told, the production went to 7 countries.

And all that to say, RIP Chris, you bloody legend.

Enjoy! x

Lyrics:

I'm driving home for Christmas
Oh I can't wait to feel those faces
I'm driving home for Christmas, yeah
Driving even though I'm blind

And it may seem wrong
But I will get there if I push on
It's like the end of days
When I'm borrowing your car
Driving home for Christmas

It's gonna take some time, but I'll get there...

Caused a 10 mile tailback
Oh I hear sirens all around
But this is kinda freeing, yeah
Making people go to ground

So I facetime you
'cos Aira said they can't guide me through
Don't fear, it's just me
Borrowing your car
And driving home for Christmas

Driving home for Christmas, making memories...

I hear the shout of a driver next to me
He's up in flames...

I made it through the tailbacks
There's a police convoy in bound
I'm driving home for Christmas, yeah
Laying waste to every town

Now I'm on the news
There's helicopters, a swat team too
I hope you'll forgive me
Borrowing your car
And driving home for Christmas

Driving home for Christmas, with a thousand casualties...

Say a prayer for the family next to me
They've all been mamed...

Garmin “Autoland” aka “Safe Return,” has been used for the first time, successfully.

Autoland is an emergency system, where a passenger can hit a big red button if the pilot is in incapacitated, which causes the airplane to make emergency radio calls, navigate to a nearby airport with a long runway and medical facilities, and conduct an instrument approach and landing, followed by a full shutdown when the aircraft comes to a stop on the runway. Large screens and voice announcements keep passengers updated along the way.

The nature of the medical emergency on Saturday, involving a King Air with an unconscious pilot, has not been disclosed.

The problem with saying "Linux doesn't work" is that it's incorrect.

Folks are always surprised to hear that I've been doing music, videos, and gaming on Linux for decades.

Biggest thing is that I *only* buy hardware that works on Linux, and I *only* use software that works on Linux.

What you mean when you say "Linux doesn't work" is that "Linux doesn't work for me." But that's not rage-baity enough to attract attention.

in reply to Veronica Explains

A problem I have with every "I tried Linux for two weeks and could never make it work" video thing is that folks position themselves as the default, everyday computer user.

But they're not! Jeeze folks! They're already knee deep in Windows/Mac software if they have a YouTube channel where they make videos on Windows/Mac!

These folks have production workflows that they don't want to change. If that's not you, you can disregard their rage-bait!

I don't "make Linux and FOSS work for me." Years ago, I *chose* to work with Linux and FOSS.

I just switched, and if things required Windows or a Mac, I didn't do those things. I did other things instead.

My priorities welcomed that choice. Yours might not. That's OK! But it doesn't mean Linux can't do it.

It'd be like saying "my bicycle can't haul a tractor, therefore bicycles are worthless." You'd sound absurd. That's what they do. Because rage sells.

I've recently returned to using Mutt to manage most of my incoming mail, especially the various mailing lists to which I subscribe. Major reasons for this include (1) its comprehensive set of keyboard commands; (2) the option to control sort order in detail, including threads (in my case, oldest message first); (3) focus handling, e.g., placed automatically on the first unread message; and (4) support for using your preferred text editor to write messages. The main disadvantage is that HTML messages aren't presented as well as they would be in a client based on a Web browser engine. However, most of the HTML-only messages I receive are advertising anyway, i.e., the lowest priority mail that I often don't read.
