I’ve just been playing with the ElevenLabs stuff myself. Extremely impressive so far. I’ve been trying to emulate someone with a very particular NY accent and it tends to smooth things out a bit more than I’d like but it’s still mind blowing that it can do it as well as it does.

Before I listened to Potter at all, I tried a sample of each version and decided I prefered Dale. Then I listened to Fry anyway, and still prefer Dale lol

I am ... agog. Technology's not done that to me for a while. well I mean it was last week when ChatGTP did some complex processing for me, but still. That's a comparitive age in computing cycles, right?
@valiant8086 I presume it's not been specifically trained on audiobooks, or if it has, it's a young model. Speaker recognition in a fiction work is hardly a trivial matter, not to mention a bank of voiceform adaptations to connect to each speaker, which then also need to be run through whatever tone or intent deterministic algorithm they already use, which will often include markers outside the dialogue. Complex business! But who'd have predicted such results even to this standard?
@valiant8086 The fact that it could adjust my inflection with being handed a mere 17 seconds of audio is impressive in itself. Yes, I'm easily pleased, my mind is still blown by this thing. Novelty has not warn off.

A few weeks ago I released a Pascal (subset) to BASIC compiler at github.com/stepleton/mupas . But why Pascal? It's because I once implemented a language grammar a long time ago and then did nothing with it.
Starting from that old grammar saved me a lot of compiler writing work. The language itself wasn't so important --- if it had been, say, Rexx, I might have written a Rexx compiler. But it wasn't Rexx. It wasn't even just a Pascal grammar: it was Clascal.
