In the #curl project, we have no official "mission" or "values". I don't see the need.

(but you can give feedback to OpenSSL's here: openssl.org/blog/blog/2023/05/…)

(quote for context)

"In spite of universal public commentary that implementing, rather than *enabling* QUIC is not what the community wants, you’re plowing ahead."

That's one of these rollercoaster sentences which throws you off at some point and you need to reread it multiple times.

I still think this blog post by @bagder is on point:

In reply to their blog "Thunderbird Is Thriving: Our 2022 Financial Report", I had two simple questions for #Thunderbird: "What did the top 3 donors donate, and who were they?"

Yesterday, these questions went from "Your comment is awaiting moderation" to gone within 2 hours (see screenshot).

What's there to hide, @thunderbird and Jason Evangelho @killyourfm?

Boosts are appreciated.

Morning! As you can see from our dashboard view, your comments aren't gone.

I've also shown you other comments awaiting approval (we require approval for EVERY comment).

The delay is simply because I have a lot of platforms to manage. I have had 44 minutes of working time since you posted your comment ;-)

I'll see if I can get an answer to your question. And if I can, I'll reply directly to your question on the blog.

Thanks!

Here's what I've been working on. This is not yet finished. Once it is, I'll host the resulting HTML somewhere. github.com/brynify/wineyes-rev…

Window-Eyes
I've finally finished. If you would like to read the entire window-eyes revision history in an easier to consume format, go here and do. The source files have also been updated on github. If you find any mistakes in the conversions, feel free to either let me know or open a PR. This was a lot of material to go through so odds are I missed something. brynify.me/wineyes/

Wow, that is certainly a lot of work. What made you do it?

I remember trying Window-Eyes on occasion here and there. It never really took hold over here in Germany because it took them a long time to get it translatable. With many users, and especially government agencies, having a non-localized screen reader simply was a complete deal breaker. And by the time they got around to it, JAWS had taken up literally all of the market, and NVDa was gaining momentum, which put Window-Eyes in a rough spot from the start. It failed to make any significant dent in the market over here.

@sclower Can you give some insight into how certain decisions were made in regards to licensing? Over here in Europe, the only version of WE that you could buy was the one that required activation, and you only had three such activations per license. There was also a dongle-based version I believe. Meanwhile, in the US, you could obtain versions that “just worked”. What was the reasoning behind this?

@miki Those decisions were made long before I joined the company. But from what I recall, there was some strange requirement that software exported to the EU (or maybe just specific countries within the region) had to include copy protection of some kind. It was a pain to support, and I think most of us wish we could have dropped it had we been able to.

Watch any LGBTQ+ content on TikTok?

Then TikTok catalogued you!

Not only is this incredibly creepy, it's incredibly outrageous -- and could be used for harm.

People need to stop going to bat for this dumpster fire of an app. Just because Republicans don't like TikTok doesn't mean it's good. In this case, the enemy of your enemy is not your friend.

It also goes without saying that surveillance capitalism needs to stop. It's not good when TikTok does it, and it's also not good when Google, Meta, and Twitter do it.

So TIL this video exists.
YouTube even breaks it up with commercials- must be pretty popular 🥴

This. Is. Amazing.

Montréal suburb Brossard has a traffic light in a school zone that defaults to red, and only turns green when an attached speed camera detects a car driving under the speed limit.

The light is on a 90-day trial, on a 2-lane residential street. Similar signals are widespread across Europe.

Before it was installed, average vehicle speeds of 40 km/h. But in the past week, average speeds have dropped to 29 km/h.

“Warped hallucinations are indeed afoot in the world of AI, however – but it’s not the bots that are having them; it’s the tech CEOs who unleashed them, along with a phalanx of their fans, who are in the grips of wild hallucinations, both individually and collectively.”

From time to time I just play a random video from Jay Foreman just for cheering me up. And he never let me down. He's so #creative guy, I love his naive #humor. Today he surprised me with this one:

I had #ChatGPT write a story for a friend of mine who just went through a colonoscopy and it seemed fitting to have it in the style of a Scotsman, although #ElevenLabs didn't change my accent to compensate. Still, it amuses me none the less.

@blindbat84 That's not you doing it wrong, it's @app doing it wrong. When you find a boost of a post, you have to pull the conversation to get to the *original* post, then you can play it. This is true for anything I've come across, anyway. Even if the same person who posted it boosts it, that's not enough. Has to be the original only.

I've always loved reading articles by former Apple Retail employees. I loved reading them before I worked for Apple. I liked reading them while I worked for Apple. But it's interesting reading this article from Medium now, after spending five years with the company. I was at Apple from late 2015 to late 2020. The author of this article started working for Retail in 2016, a year after I started. And they left last year, after me. It was amazing getting to work with so many talented individuals. And the friendships I made there were priceless. But the stories of burnout really hit home for me.

I somehow like the idea of sharing the recordings in my "Random Recordings" folder here on Mastodon. Maybe that way they'll still be somewhere long after I'm gone! Probably none of these would exist if it weren't for @FreakyFwoof, so go after him if you don't like them! #blind #binaural
