Woha, this is unexpected: in a future update mastodon will automatically turn off open registration if no mod has logged in for a week or longer:

github.com/mastodon/mastodon/p…

This is great news, and should hopefully significantly cut down on abandoned servers being used to send spam!

(And this is in addition to also having open registrations off by default on new servers.)

the reason i suggest going against picking mastodon.social is because it's the biggest instance, so it tends to attract most new users, including trolls and other people who typically misbehave online. it's honestly kind of like a miniature twitter. a lot of the actually good instances block or limit mastodon.social because of this.

HOLY SHIT, I just watched #Nimona!
OMG, honestly, a lot of modern animation movies feel like they're not being very creative with the unique art form.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was nice at showing there were still ways of being creative with animation;

Google is preparing to fully remove support for non-A/B updates from Android, leaving A/B updates as the only officially supported OTA update mechanism moving forward.

However, this won't stop certain device makers from continuing to use non-A/B as they can either use their own implementation or just revert Google's changes. Google would need to actually mandate the use of A/B through the CDD or GMS licensing, which they've tried to do but ended up reneging.
