there is probably some API Firefox is missing, and the tiny user share makes it impractical to support, been there myself. At some point you have to own the browser choices you make.

This is exactly the sort of thing AI opponents would claim isn't important enough for blind people to know. It's also a perfect example of why this technology can be so empowering, because it gives you insights into aspects of the world you simply would not have known existed otherwise.
@jscholes Or, more charitably, I guess the AI opponents might think that we should be asking, and possibly paying, other humans to describe these things for us.
@matt @jscholes I'm traveling with my sighted sibling. They just took a picture of it and sent it to me to put through Be My AI lmao. As much as I'm against LLM's becoming as common as the common cold, that doesn't mean I don't realize the versatility. Vision is where the research should go IMO.
@miki @matt I have less experience with this aspect of LLMs, but I've heard colleagues whose primary language isn't English express similar sentiments. It's often underestimated, but being able to write cogent, well formed sentences in any language is a skill and a privilege.
@jscholes @matt Exactly. ANd you could make LLMs do software translation a lot better, cheaper and faster than humans. IMO 99% of accessibility issues in society don't come from mislabeled buttons or bad contrast, but missing translations.

@matt @miki I understand, but there are many contextual variables involved. Personal confidence, objective and subjective levels of language proficiency across different domains, the purpose and audience of the writing, the quality of the model being utilised, and the list goes on. Of course I would agree that in many areas of life, people should not be penalised because their language skills are not seen as perfect (for some definition of that word). But as someone who's never felt the need to use tools like Grammarly, let alone the current cohort of AI tools for writing, i'd struggle to articulate advice for these students that went beyond "get over it, you're good enough". That's not something i'd feel comfortable saying to anyone without understanding their circumstances more.
Link at end, but As an AI opponent myself, this position is simplifying our objections. But, moreover, it is not objective because tech design isn't objective, especially in an LLM. It needs to be trained by someone/something which has bias you and or I know nothing about. That being said, my thoughts are in the linked post at the end. But as to the piffy one liner about asking people to do it instead of an LLM. I mean, I have a multitude of neighbors, US based, and community based, and international friends within multiple countries that are not bothered by my blindness so don't get upset when I require more detail from an image, but, really, there are people out here that actually volunteer for services like Be My Eyes, so they do have a vested interest in helping/answering repeated questions about an image. But that's very, very, very, small potatoes. If more services were to pop up, tech will just exploit the global south like it currently does with LLM's but you'll still get a free/low cost service. @weirdwriter About technoableism, aren't you just describing what assistive technology has always been about? How do we decide where to draw the line? After all, there are ethical issues with computers themselves, e.g. the working conditions for miners and factory workers. If I'm honest, it seems to me that the only consistent position is to just not care, keep using all available tools that help us, and help others get the most out of these tools.

Ostatně ČT taky vyrábí třeba několik pořadů exkluzivně pro iVysílání, takže lidé, co nemají internet, je neuvidí. To ale neznamená, že by měli platit míň.
@tritol128 @mkyral Co několik pořadů... V podstatě všechny dodatečné sportovní kanály (dnes pod hlavičkou ČT Sport Plus) jsou čistě internetové. Často jich běží i několik souběžně, na terestrice to nikde není.

Nemyslím, na kole jezdím celkem často. Cyklistiku provozuje čím dál více lidí. Ono i na elektrokole se musí šlapat. Samozřejmě netvrdím, že není hodně lidí obézních a je i pár co jdou na kolo, udělají selfíčko a tím to pro ně končí.

Back in March I scanned through a terabyte of old geocities sites with the goal of finding *all* the 88x31 buttons. Recently, I realised that I didn't scan for all the geocities subsites (e.g. de.geocities.com, br.geocities.com, etc). I've fixed that mistake and have added 1.8k new 88x31 buttons from Germany, Brazil, Hong Kong and many more international sites.
