TIL about the interaction between 303, -X and -L.

I think as a user -X overriding the HTTP method on every subsequent request when redirected is unexpected. I'd expect curl to keep the method on 307/308, override to GET on 303 (and 301/302 if it's a POST?). Which I think it's Option 1 of your proposal.

But, you just _know_ there must be someone who relies on the existing behavior.

I just closed my eyes and merged github.com/curl/curl/pull/1609…

yay, it supports comments! Thank you.

In most cases where I'm scripting around curl(1) I have a bunch of scaffolding to save extra info for potential post facto debugging (--dump-header ..., --stderr ..., --write-out '%{json}' ...), usually tucked behind a toggle control (invocation parameter / env var / dotfile statement); but for interactive use and in the early phases of prototyping this will be super useful! And that is exactly when comments in the file would be most likely. ❤️

We can now safely say, asteroid 2024 YR4 is not coming for us after all.

Latest observations indicate that the asteroid has just a 0.0039% risk of hitting Earth in 2032. But there's still a small chance it could hit the Moon.

HP printers give fake error messages for non-HP ink. Some Keurigs only accept “approved” coffee pods. GE refrigerators show error codes for off-brand filters.

If you own something, you should be able to keep it running or repair it however you choose.

The maker shouldn't have a say in what brand of battery or filter you use any more than your car maker decides what brand of oil you use.

It’s a widespread issue across manufacturers, and something we’re fighting to fix.

Microsoft is introducing ads into a free version of Office, which seemingly only lets users save to OneDrive.

In other news, LibreOffice is also free, doesn't have ads, and lets you save your documents wherever you want. I use it every day for my work. It is available here:

JD Vance states at CPAC that they would pick up the torch for a national abortion ban.

We warned people that Trump-Vance would go for a nationwide abortion ban.

Don’t blame me. I voted for the qualified black woman who supported your right to choose a safe, legal abortion and contraception.

@DavidGoldfield @wendinoakland My problem with pro-life is that even when you have people like me who say at age 20 I do not want children. I never want children. Please tie my tubes. They say, no. You will maybe change your mind. And oh, with your condition, you can't get pregnant. I did indeed get pregnat. I lost 16 pounds in three two months. I was sick and almost dying myself. Turned out I was pregnant. I was in a very bad physical state at that point. So before that I may have judged people who got abortions but not now. but should I have continued to risk my own life, especially when the doctor said this doesn't look normal at all? Not being nasty with you. Just asking in a civilized conversation. In every other way I'm pretty conservative. I do not think abortion should be used as birth control. I also do not think a rape victim should be forced to carry a child to term. Even if they could adopt, it out, why should the girl be punished more? Yes, the fetus is already a collection of cells. Yes. It could be transplanted. But to me, the most important person before birth or at least during the first trimester is the mother. And until they can make it easier for people to decide earlier in their lives they never want to get pregnant, then I'd be all for not having it except in medical crises. I just think the late-term and abortions willy nilly are a problem.

I appreciate that even The Economist recognizes the Musk / DOGE staff purges as cost savings are bullshit:
“If you were to fire every last civil servant in America, you would still be saving just roughly 5% of the annual budget.”
economist.com/podcasts/2025/02….

Sadly, it fails to state the entities targeted are the ones who were investigating Musk or showed too much independence. USAID, for example:

Founded 80 years ago by two Quebec entrepreneurs, home improvement chain RONA has long considered itself a Canadian icon. The retailer went so far as to paste the words "Truly Canadian" and "Proudly Canadian" in large letters on many of its storefronts.

But RONA was acquired by American retail giant Lowe's in 2016, so they had to remove those signs after Canada's Ad Standards council found they "conveyed an inaccurate general impression" given the company's ownership.

Israel’s fierce military offensive in response to the October 7 attacks has killed nearly 50,000 Palestinians, according to local health officials — most of them women and children — destroyed most infrastructure in the besieged enclave and brought much of Gaza’s 2.3mn population to the brink of famine.

New wcurl release:
github.com/curl/wcurl/releases…

Functionality-wise, there's only one change:
* Allow -o and -O to be used without whitespaces (e.g.: -oNAME).
Full list of changes available in the link.

We don't have any other changes planned for wcurl, so it could be a while until the next release. It already has all the features we wanted (that we could achieve with a POSIX shell script).
