So, if training AI on copyrighted works is deemed fair use, can I just start torrenting everything interesting as long as I swear I'm training a model and not enjoying any of it for fun? Or, what if I claim to be an AI model, myself?

Google has joined OpenAI in asking the U.S. government to codify the right to train AI models on publicly available data, including copyrighted data, without restriction.

Google argues that “fair use and text-and-data mining exceptions” are “critical” to AI development and innovation.

Just saw a site (this one) that has a hamburger menu, which, when clicked, displays a picture of a hamburger.

I will have to squeeze this into my "authentic experience" page.

Here it is: The first clear image of an eclipse of the Sun by the Earth, taken from the surface of the Moon.

This is what last night's lunar eclipse looked like from the Blue Ghost lander's perspective on the Moon. Amazing!

Friday.
My personal email has an outage. i'm not particularly bothred inasmuch as I think messages won't be lost, but it's the first one that's actually impacted me during the day time since I moved to my current mail provider over 11 years ago.
Work is ticking on, I am hopping between Slack, Jira and OBS like a particularly well-caffeinated accessibility specialist. I do wish I could use Jira on the CLI, though.
Weekend is nearly here, in fact I only have 2 more hours to go today.
next week is a shorter workweek as our annual holiday entitlements reset in April and I had hours left over, so booked Thursday and Friday for the next fortnight off. One of these has turned into a shopping trip for the daughter, who happens to be off school at the same time. Another will be a book in bed day with the new Peter Cawdron.

To kick off the weekend, said daughter and I intend on watching The Electric State.

#Canada should immediately cancel all 88 of our F-35 fighter plane orders, as they should be considered compromised computers-on-wings that can be disabled as soon as our friends decide to invade us.

We should join the EU, buy a couple of Typhoons and get involved in co-developing the FCAS NGF for starters.

Then, stealth noodles.

I really like the backup function in #GrapheneOS based on #Seedvault. I know it doesn't work 100%, some apps don't support it etc. But in my case >90% of apps get backed up and restored.

This is what all Androids should have. I understand #Google doesn't want to do it because for them #Android is just a gateway to their services and when you have all your data in their cloud, you don't need such backups. But other Android vendors should have it.

in reply to Jiří Eischmann

as long as apps can decide if they want certain data to be part of the back up, this solution won't help the majority of users.
Everything , images, app settings, app data, login sessions, encryption keys, connected wifis&passwords, calendar, contacts, et cetera has to be inside an encrypted backup.
I want 100% not 95% of the data back when my phone crashed or i buy a new one.
