In Europe everyone is talking about #DigitalSovereignty - which is great! But we can't have that and undermine our sovereignty by giving law enforcement the key to all encrypted communication. To us at Tuta it's clear:
AI technology designed to detect illegal material cannot distinguish between "good" and "bad" speech. It opens the door for governments, now or in the future, to monitor all messages, photos, and videos. Once the infrastructure for scanning is in place, it can and will be used for other means as well.
Ask yourself this: Would you install a camera in your bathroom so the government can "make sure nothing bad happens"? Interestingly, EU governments themselves don't want the AI to scrape their data.
European SMEs have united to direct a strong open letter to urge ministers of EU member states to oppose Chat Control and to defend privacy and a strong European tech industry.
I understand why governments want to exclude their data. But politicians have friends, families, business partners, they use "anonymous" accounts that won't be covered by this exemption, they retire at some point. There are many ways in which their sensitive information might be leaked just like anyone's else.
You wouldn't just be handing the key to law enforcement. The system would likely be outsourced to a private company that may not be based in the EU. There's also the system itself. Cast your minds back to the Post Office fiasco in the UK, where innocent people were jailed for fraud because the system had flaws.
It is not even able to scan for harmful content. It is impossible to differentiate between legitimate nudes or abusive ones. As well as it is impossible to differentiate grooming vs flirting simply by the chat content. #chatcontrol is a huge scam!! Only practical use-case is mass surveillance and information control.

I've never had to use it. like, call a place for actual support, that required like, a thing I couldn't have done myself if I knew how. LIke, back at the beginning of may when this old thing had to go to the hospital, dude was all flabergasted that I was even still running it.

Aside from NVDA, You mentioned Narrator and I mentioned Jaws, Narrator comes with Windows and is less full featured. Jaws is a commercial program which costs around $2,000 (plus upgrade costs every couple of years). NVDA is completely free by philosophy. Feature-wise, NVDA and Jaws are quite similar
@NVAccess thanks for this, yes I meant what one SR reads out (nvda) while another does not read out that same line (narrator) ... am just puzzled about that behaviour, but have since established that nvda is 'superior' and or widely preferenced to narrator (unsurpsingly, the latter being a MS product >.<)
@NVAccess JAWS does not cost 2000 dollars, unless you purchase a professional license. In the united states, users can get a home anual license for 104.00 per year. Currently JAWS sma's cost 228.00 per two years, but they will be going up at the end of october by 10 percent. I am not as well versed in pricing for JAWS outside the US, but there are other options for purchasing JAWS in the US.

Every time I try to use an LLM, it always gets things terribly wrong. Nvlist binary format is undocumented. Ask an LLM for it and of course it gets confused with OpenZFS similarly named nvpair, and talks about that (don't know if it's correct or not, but probably isn't from what I briefly saw).
