So about the #Mona app. Given that version 7 is going to be a massive app rewrite and refactoring, I have many issues. The first is the paying. This app is a huge rewrite. All that time and effort? That deserves money. Where I put my foot down is you making a whole new app to get around all of the people, including me, that paid for lifetime subscription. That seems wildly underhanded to me. And you’re releasing it as a new app? Rather than a app upgrade? To make sure that we’re kind of forced to pay for the new app? Hard no from me. I read every single reply in that thread. There is a test flight link. Even though it is in beta, it is relying way too heavily on LLM’s for me to want to try it. I read in the thread that choosing a post language is no longer an option, and that the app relies on an LLM to guess what that language is. Even in a beta, that clearly signals what you started developing direction wise and I’m just not interested. I keep thinking about the question I asked the developer long before Mastodon had it’s moment. The developer told me no Mastodon app would be made. Fine. But this looks like cash cow development to fund whatever LLM you stuck in the app. I’m not happy. The accessibility of the app is unmatched, especially for VoiceOver users, but I fund honest, even agressive, donation requests. I will happily pay a subscription to support development but not like this. Is there another app with as much care and VoiceOver love? #Fediverse #Mastodon #Accessibility #A11y

If you do not have prescription insurance coverage, through your employer, etc., you're obliged to have RAMQ prescription coverage.

However, RAMQ has changed who is eligible and is NOT COVERING COVID-19 VACCINES IF YOU'RE NOT ELIGIBLE.

150$ isn't even what Moderna/Pfizer, etc. spends to make each COVID-19 vaccine.

François Legault and the CAQ government are all about profits before people.

The point of Santé Québec is to privatize almost ALL healthcare. It's doing so, right now, w/ the COVID-19 vaccines.

Santé Québec oversees the ordering process for the COVID-19 vaccines given to at-risk groups, which are sent to wholesalers and then distributed to pharmacies.

For the paid vaccines, Santé Québec is not involved. Pharmacies place their orders directly with wholesalers, who order the vaccines from manufacturers.

the NTP foundation (yeah the time thing) is begging for scraps of cash, like a few thousand dollars - a low level manager at amazon, google, apple and meta could each whip out the corp credit card, give them $5k each and problem solved, but no, they're too far up their own arse to do that

It's been a good day off today. We had to take Jose to the dermatologist to check his paws. He's doing well and we won't have to go back for a year. We just have to have bloodwork done locally and send it to the specialist. He'll stay on his same med regimen. Then we went to the Blue Ben diner for breakfast. Sooo good! I had chicken fried steak, scrambled eggs, home fries and a biscuit. I took the biscuit home as it is huge and I was full. Then I came home and relaxed. It's been snowing all day. First snow of the season.

I think it’s worth taking a moment to appreciate all the non technical work that goes behind this announcement.

The KDE e.V. and broader ecosystem is mature enough to develop working relationships with a major vendor, and keep working with them!

Congrats to the whole @kde ecosystem for these massive news again!

“Surveillance is happening but it’s at a much lower level than it used to be. We don’t have a complete picture of virus circulation of the variants that are out there... there’s a collective amnesia right now about COVID-19."

I'm trapped in development hell at the moment. I need to run these Chef (CINC) kitchen tests on FreeBSD which is normally done with Vagrant and a VM by VirtualBox, but the tooling to do this doesn't run on FreeBSD. You'd normally execute this on Linux or MacOS.

I have no Linux machines available.

My Mac is Apple Silicon so its VirtualBox can only do aarch64 VMs which is not what I need (and won't work).

Interesting addon I found for NVDA. I don't use Spotify, so I won't add it to my portable, but deffinitly an interesting thing. github.com/InfiArtt/accessify-…

So, Valve, probably the biggest gaming company in the world, just announced 3 new pieces of hardware after the success of their last Linux-powered gaming handheld "Steam Deck".

A controller, a small little gaming desktop PC and a VR headset. All of them (aside from the controller of course) running SteamOS, a full Arch-based Linux OS with KDE Plasma.

Excited to see so many new people potentially see how cool Linux is when it ships early 2026!

@jakob Apparently they'll be using github.com/FEX-Emu/FEX for that. The idea of using 2 translation layers makes me worry about performance, but then again, Proton does way better than I expected too, so I'm carefully optimistic it'll end up fine enough. We'll see.
