Yo man, so I am aware of your attempts to get Bestspeech SAPI5 working and that you'd like a c++ dev to help you fix it. I can certainly help you at some point, but at the moment my plate is full. Because so few people have responded in a good way I don't entirely blame you for continuing to try to reach out? But at this point I just kindly ask/suggest that you patiently wait for one of us to reach back out to you with a solution, or we'll ask you for your code if we need it as we are fully aware of it's existence, etc. At this point bro your attempts to reach out are starting to get near to breaching certain forms of etiquette that are observed either socially or in development, mostly I question your decision to name drop the dude who found the bestspeech dll for us, publicly, maybe without knowing how public he wants his real name to be? If you know he doesn't mind please feel free to correct me. I can just forgive the following because it's my repo, but you then opened an issue on the b32_wrapper github tracker with this, even though at present that repo has nothing to do with a SAPI5 wrapper specifically. Again I don't blame you for that because it's my fault for not properly reaching out earlier just to say I was aware of your attempt and would help when I could. Now I've done that though, so I kindly suggest that it might be for the best if you wait for the interest/availability of me or Jake regarding SAPI5 bestspeech to develop naturally where we'll then reach out to you if we determine that the AI code would be helpful (it very well may be and I applaud you for trying)! Feel free to post cool status updates like a few messages ago, I'm glad you're making progress! But unless you are sure, I'd think it might be best to be careful how you are reaching out to try to get help on this matter, because I think you are trying so hard to get help that you are beginning to make a few social mistakes when doing so. I don't write this for you to feel bad or shamed (please don't), but just as a friendly reminder that you are indeed asking for one of us to spend hours of time getting some code working that you didn't even write, something which a message or 2 ago you admitted yourself was frustrating to the point of you considering giving up, and that possibly name dropping someone who may have very well chosen a pseudonym specifically to keep their real name private is potentially not the best way to make them want to help you. No hard feelings man and again I don't mind helping you when I've got more room on my plate. But please if you don't mind try to be careful how you ask for uncompensated help with this so that you don't accidentally do it a bit recklessly. I am frustrated that my attempts keep ending up in failure and I don't know enough to get a simple cpp file compiled correctly. I'm sure claude wrote propper code and it most likely fixed the bugs that were in version 1. someone on audio games forum compiled the first version. it had bugs. I'm guessing claude fixed them. but I have no way of verifying this because the thing won't compile!! so frustrating!!

in mhy opinion, this stuff is so complex that developers should get paid ten million or more dollars just to make a cpp file into a dll. yes, it is that complex in my opinion. sorry alex, no sapi5 bestspeech and no sapi5 cyberTalk. I gave it my best shot, and failed.
turns out I was following a guide that was making me do things the hard way, claude saved me again. I don't need to touch the IDE after all. following claude's guide, lets see if it works and it builds the dll with bugs fixed.
I got quite far, built the dll, registered voices into 32-bit sapi in registry, voices won't speak. needs debugging beyond what I can do. maybe whoever made the decTalk4.99New-sapi5 program could help with this. I'm definitely sorry for all your struggles, and really empathize with the feeling. Dev work is never easy, but man is it rewarding when you get it right, and that's probably why I spring for it. I have very little C++ knowledge, get me into Mutexes and race conditions and I get lost quite easily. I can read the code and know what it does, but for sure my stomping ground is Python and JS / web. I'm also super busy work to the extent that, quite frankly, I just don't want to touch a computer once I'm done or look at code in my spare time, because all day every day I'm asked to do that for audits, customer tickets, pull requests, ETC, and I have zero motivation for code at the end of my day or weekends. That's just the truth, man. Full-time work will suck the soul out of you like that. Hopefully over time someone else will jump along, but until then, you've got two very powerful things on your side: Patience, and tools. The first will help you use the second, and for tools, I encourage trying others, even free tears of Gemini or GPT 5 can be good. It does limit how much you can send it, but for these critical questions, jumping out to another AI for clarification is not a bad idea. I know with your determination we'll get there, afterall, your decades-push helped us get here today, too.

So about the #Mona app. Given that version 7 is going to be a massive app rewrite and refactoring, I have many issues. The first is the paying. This app is a huge rewrite. All that time and effort? That deserves money. Where I put my foot down is you making a whole new app to get around all of the people, including me, that paid for lifetime subscription. That seems wildly underhanded to me. And youโre releasing it as a new app? Rather than a app upgrade? To make sure that weโre kind of forced to pay for the new app? Hard no from me. I read every single reply in that thread. There is a test flight link. Even though it is in beta, it is relying way too heavily on LLMโs for me to want to try it. I read in the thread that choosing a post language is no longer an option, and that the app relies on an LLM to guess what that language is. Even in a beta, that clearly signals what you started developing direction wise and Iโm just not interested. I keep thinking about the question I asked the developer long before Mastodon had itโs moment. The developer told me no Mastodon app would be made. Fine. But this looks like cash cow development to fund whatever LLM you stuck in the app. Iโm not happy. The accessibility of the app is unmatched, especially for VoiceOver users, but I fund honest, even agressive, donation requests. It's been a good day off today. We had to take Jose to the dermatologist to check his paws. He's doing well and we won't have to go back for a year. We just have to have bloodwork done locally and send it to the specialist. He'll stay on his same med regimen. Then we went to the Blue Ben diner for breakfast. Sooo good! I had chicken fried steak, scrambled eggs, home fries and a biscuit. I took the biscuit home as it is huge and I was full. Then I came home and relaxed. It's been snowing all day. First snow of the season.

And yes copyleft is a copyright hack. Copyleft by itself is not the end goal of the free software movement, but just a tool that helps achieve that.
In the perfect world, copyright, and thus also copyleft, would not need to exist.
Ideally everyone would simply find nonfree software unethical and nobody would use it. Therefor nobody would try to publish nonfree software in the first place.
Or alternatively, we would make a law that states that all published software should include its source code by default, outside of the domain of a copyright license. As a society we could consider nonfree software as malicious and ban the practice altogether.
I'm trapped in development hell at the moment. I need to run these Chef (CINC) kitchen tests on FreeBSD which is normally done with Vagrant and a VM by VirtualBox, but the tooling to do this doesn't run on FreeBSD. You'd normally execute this on Linux or MacOS.
I have no Linux machines available.
My Mac is Apple Silicon so its VirtualBox can only do aarch64 VMs which is not what I need (and won't work).
