I'm really looking forward to the new versions of #audacity.

If you haven't seen it yet, this is what the audacity team is working on:

If AI/LLMs are cut off from stolen human labour, their outputs turn to meaningless gibberish due to model collapse.

If AI/LLM owners are forced to pay for human labour instead of stealing it, they go bankrupt.

If AI/LLM data centres are forced to stay within energy consumption levels compatible with fighting climate change, they have to close down the overwhelming majority of their capacity.

AI/LLMs are just not sustainable, they can only function through labour theft and burning the planet. They're not so much new technology as a new type of ponzi scheme.

Happy selfhosting!

@BorrisInABox The more I use Android, the more I hate the ephemeral nature of apps on iOS. I wonder if something has ever existed for Android--because if it has, especially if it's existed as a 64-bit app, it probably still works. And that would probably be my answer. Data SIMs are cheap, budget Android devices are cheap.
I still want an ARM Windows device the size of a smartphone, but I don't think that's happening.

The Linux circlejerk has a "Great Man/Company theory" problem.

Every time there is an issue, they all go around clinging to the one company that "finally" will put some resources into fixing them. Endlessly hyping them up and elevating them to a deity status.

It happened with Canonical in the past and how it was "single handedly fixing GNOME".

More recently its Valve and how "they have graced us with gaming and fixing Wayland"

Like sure I appreciate everyone, but its a team effort you know.

I wouldn't call GTK/libadwaita easier. GTK is the only toolkit I have significant experience with, so I have no point of comparison. That said, I do like GTK, because you can easily style with CSS, similarly to a website.

For Bottles, I didn't decide the library; I was not involved in Bottles development during that time. That was decided by Mirko, the mastermind behind it. I presume he did it for the aesthetics and good Python bindings.

next #ArcaneChat (and #DeltaChat) releases will have support for #RFC 9788 (Header Protection for Cryptographically Protected Email)

probably they will be one of the first email clients to support it, how cool is that?

One of the interesting articles that came after #KubeCon is touching the problem of the platform engineering anti-patterns. Is there anything in particular that bothers you and you want to discuss it at #DevOpsDays #Prague in 2026?

I don’t want to question that they care about the Platform.
I just don’t see they understand it.
Focusing only on integrating $whatever into backstage is not the right thing to do. I think the article says that, too.
And having a bit of understanding about statistics would be helpful. Not sure if this is a general problem, I see this also in engineering, but normally engineers seem more open to learn.
Sigh, sry for my half kind of a rant. 😊

"The small modular reactor market could support the decarbonisation of at least 11 industrial sectors that make up the majority of industrial energy demand by 2050 in North America and Europe with a potential market of 700 GW by 2050, a study by LucidCatalyst has concluded."

Hi everyone!
We are glad you are excited for the quote posts! They will come eventually but right now we (and I mean mostly Conny) are in the process of rewriting the timeline to be able to accommodate for quotes, it might take some time. We are only a few people who do this in our free time. We can't give you a time estimate but of course we also want it out as soon as possible. Stay tuned!

New people are joining Mastodon. Here is my #mastohelp:

1. Write a meaningful bio text — no one follows the unknown.

2. A profile photo of yourself is helpful — again, no one follows the unknown.

3. Start replying to other people's posts. Eventually you will get noticed.

4. If you get stuck, ask questions — people are really helpful here.

5. Follow at least 200, so you get an interesting feed.

6. Search hashtags of topics you like. If you like politics, try #eupol or #uspol.

Welcome! 🐘
