Should I have gone with DotPad X over Cadence? For me, I don't think so. Your trade-offs may vary but: Both devices have a refresh noise. There's no way around it. I wish I could hear the DotPad X in action, but very few or practically nobody has posted a demo of this. I would expect it to sound like a Monarch, if the cell tech is the same or similar. Even if we consider Cadence louder, the refresh is near-instant. Not as instant as a classic piezoelectric 40-cell, but let me say, itt's no more than .5 to 1 seconds for the entire 4 lines to refresh. This doesn't get longer when you connect more than one because they refresh together, but you do get slightly louder clicks. So refresh rate itself? Cadence still wins. Then for me the battery is what sealed the deal. Weeks on a charge? DotPad X looks to be 8 hours. A workday's worth, sure, but not much more. And for sure, this is Cadence gen 1. Can you imagine what this little company from Indiana could do with it if more people saw things this way? How the tech could improve, maybe dampening over time the clicks? Joe and the rest of their team have been incredible. For repairs, they told me they send you a new unit and you then send yours back. Very prompt at responses too during the day, you're not left waiting on hold. So if anyoone again asks: "Do you regret Cadence despite its press conference-like noise when refreshing?" My answer is still a resounding no. I love 48-cells in my pocket, sized like an 18-cell.
Když přijdete o řidičák, tak podle toho, jak jste o něj přišli, vás čekají různé cesty k jeho získání zpět. Ty nejdrsnější jsou po odebrání papírů na více než 18 měsíců, kdy musíte projít terapeutickým kurzem za 15k, který trvá 20 hodin. Na druhou stranu u takového vybodování vám bez řečí vrátí papíry po 12 měsících.
Tady asi nejvíc pozor na rychlost >+40 v obci a >+50 mimo obec, to je řidičák pryč na místě. Podobně to je s chybějící nebo zakrytou RZ - to říkejte že se nasedali do auta, které mělo obě RZ v pořádku. A hned poté na nehody se zraněním. Taková nehoda může mít mnoho forem a snadno přijdete o papíry i když si budete myslet, že jste nic špatného neudělali. Příkladem může být řidič autobusu, který prudce zabrzdí kvůli situaci před vozem a někdo uvnitř autobusu se zraní.
V Česku existuje početná skupina lidí, kteří přišli o řidičské oprávnění a nechtějí je zpátky. Podle zjištění redakce iDNES.cz je celkem 37 768 vybodovaných řidičů, jen letos jich následkem bodů přišlo o „papíry“ 4 175.
O papíry můžou lidi přijít i při zkouškách na jinou skupinu. Když jsem dělal zkoušky já, bylo tam dost profesionálních řidičů, kteří si potřebovali jen přidat další skupinu. Zkoušející na začátku řekl, že jim dává poslední možnost odejít, pokud si nevěří, že pokud nedosáhnou bodů, které jsou potřeba pro skupiny, které už mají, musí řidičák odevzdat. Všichni zůstali a někteří na konci museli odevzdat řidičáky. Ne, že by jim to ušlo o pár bodů, ale měli třeba 25/65. 🤯
Takhle rychlé to není. Tím, že odevzdáš kartičku, o oprávnění nepřijdeš. Na to musí proběhnout správní řízení na úřadě, které se dá odkládat dokud ten test neuděláš. Dneska už s kartičkou jezdit nemusíš, takže pokud nejedeš do zahraničí, tak stačí být jen rychlejší než úřad.
Nicméně je to jedna z dalších cest, jak o papíry přijít, když to člověk nechá dojet do konce 🙂
já to dělal ještě v době, kdy nebyla ani plastová kartička, ale zalaminátovaný papírek. :) Tenkrát tam fakt seděl policajt a odebíral řidičáky. Pro ty chlapy to byla osobní tragédie, protože najednou nemohli dělat svoji práci.
@sesivany to se podle mě muselo změnit, dodělával jsem si letos další skupinu, nevyšlo to napoprvé, ale nic jsem neodevzdával. Je fakt, že jsem opakoval jízdy, ne testy.
@aquarius jako je možné, že se od té doby něco změnilo. Třeba to, že se to může poslat do správního řízení. Já to dělal před 23 lety. 😅 Byli jsme poslední várka, kdy ty zkoušky byly na okresní úrovni.

With NVDA, why can we navigate HTML tables by cell, but not tables in Windows apps? Foobar2000's key assignments list is a table, but you can find them in first-party apps as well, like Event Viewer. Even Explorer lists are, arguably, tables, but those do allow cell navigation. Sure, Explorer lets you use plain arrows instead of table commands, but it works. Why not use table navigation for all tables?
@miki Why do you need a virtual buffer for table navigation? As long as you can query the rows and columns as well as where the user currently is, I see no problem.
@TheQuinbox FWIW, I can use table navigation commands in Task Manager (as an example) just fine. They even do something on the desktop, albeit only causing NVDA to say "edge of table."

@jscholes @TheQuinbox @miki In Task Manager, on the processes tab, I have a data grid of processes. However, it acts more like a tree view, with multi-window processes able to be expanded or collapsed. I don't have any other columns I can move to. If I want to see how much memory Firefox is using, I... Actually, I'm not sure how I'd do that. There are sort options for memory, CPU, and more, but no columns for those data points.
@jscholes @TheQuinbox @miki Ah. One more thing Windows 11 broke then. :) I just opened Event Viewer to check that table commands don't work there, and it keeps locking up and then silently closing. Windows 11 is amazing.
On Windows 11, if you go to the details tab in the task manager, and place yourself on the listview, ctrl-alt left or right arrow indeed go through the table cells.
Privacy may be a human right but it requires the exercise of care to assure it. Just wishing for privacy doesn't mean someone else owes it to you to keep you and your stuff private. I do ironically enjoy it when a company releases a new and improved #LLM, and suddenly some extremely specialized and specific tasks that I use LLMs for perform drastically better. And suddenly they can complete the exact examples I used to provide in my prompt, all by themselves. And seem to perform the task in my exact style, even though I'm not giving them my prompt examples anymore. Hmmm, it couldn't be that they trained on my prompt data, could it? Even though they said they don't do that? Nah, of course not! They'd never!

@miki dołączam się do fanów Codexa. Osobiście dla mnie najwygodniejszy sposób to odpalanie go w WSL nawet w przypadku pracy na windowsowym kodzie, bo po prostu działa szybciej. Do Claude nic nie mam, ale odniosłem wrażenie, że zwyczajnie częściej gubił się na nawet podstawowych zadaniach. Miałem przez miesiąc, zrezygnowałem.
@midzi Ja w Codexie bardzo lubię politykę sandboxingu. Claude sandboxingu nie ma w ogóle, więc pyta przed każdą komendą. Codex, zwłaszcza jak go dobrze skonfigurować (a to nie jest takie oczywiste), działa praktycznie samodzielnie, pomimo pozostawania w dość jednak restrykcyjnym sandboxie.
@miki Ja ostatnio bardzo doceniam Githuba, chociaż z komend GITa zapamiętałem na razie tylko git pull, resztę ogarnia mi Codex. :) A co w praktyce dają te markery, o których piszesz?
@midzi @miki W VS Code możesz dodawać markery jako zadania dla agenta. Może gdzieś indziej też działają, ale nie sprawdzałem. Ja korzystam z 2: TODO: i FIXME:. Pierwszy to polecenie stworzenia czegoś nowego, a drugie - poprawienia. Wpisujesz w komentarzu na przykład TODO: napisz funkcję, która przyjmuje plik JSON i zwraca go w YAML. I agent sam znajduje odpowiednie funkcje i koduje.

@perry fair point, certainly! webxdc.org/apps are indeed not consistently designed, and not of consistent quality. For now, the app collection has low barrier of entry, but other curations are possible, and we trying to streamline a few apps to guarantee a certain UX quality. Note that Signal and other messengers can integrate these webxdc apps as well. Even w2g.tv integrated it, and Cheogram/Monocles support them. It's a pretty versatile container format for HTML5 apps :)

How is Delta Chat different from Signal? Because of the network effect I already have trouble convincing people to swap WhatsApp for Signal. I'm already fatigued by having to keep up with "what company/service isn't evil and unethical," I don't want to have to go through this every couple years. I guess a solution would be interoperable instant messaging services - is that what Delta offers?
yes! I migrate the family messaging to Delta Chat recently, and one of the most important things to us is to be able to include our son and keep his chat with us secure and private

I just discovered that current versions of Pages on the Mac export tagged PDF files by default. Only if tables contain more than 10,000 rows, will tags be omitted. That can be overridden by changing the Accessibility popup menu setting in File/Export/PDF under Advanced from „Standard" to "on“. Then, Pages will always create tags even with large tables and very complex formatting. But even the Default setting means that most documents created in Pages will be tagged, if using alt text for images, proper tables, lists, and paragraph styles such as Heading 1 or such. Very nice!

Ich habe eben festgestellt, dass Apple Pages beim Drucken in eine PDF-Datei anscheinend automatisch Tags erzeugt. Das musste ich nicht einmal einschalten. Wenn also Alt Text für Grafiken, Tabellen, richtige Formatvorlagen usw. verwendet werden, kommt da ein zumindest auch in Vorschau gut lesbares PDF bei raus. Nice!
Ergänzung: Es gibt bei Ablage/Export/PDF unter Erweitert die Einstellungen "Standard“, „Ein“ und „Aus“. "Standard" ist voreingestellt und besagt, dass alle Tags geschrieben werden. Lediglich wenn eine Tabelle mehr als 10.000 Zeilen hat, dann nicht. Das kann man durch die Einstellung "Ein“ überschreiben. Sehr schön, das dürfte also die meisten Dokumente standardmäßig getaggt exportieren.
Bei PDFs, die am Mac erzeugt wurden, hatte ich bisher das Problem, dass immer leere Tags geschrieben wurden. D.h., wenn ich die im Adobe geöffnet habe, waren da die Tags und aber kein Text zu sehen.
Nein, hab ich vergessen. Ich erinnere mich nur, dass ich dieses Problem sehr oft beobachtet habe mit PDFs, die jemand am Mac erstellt hat. Auch Präsentationen, deshalb dachte ich, es ist was am MAC. Kannst mir ja mal eine schicken, wenn ich das testen soll.
Táta za mnou přišel, že potřebuje nový notebook. Po pěti letech se na jeho současném HPčku projevují znaky používání. Protože příprava Windows nešla úplně dobře, domluvili jsme se, že zkusíme Fedoru Silverblue. A o tom je dnešní video.
Já dostal podobnou prosbu - na jeden cca 10+ let starej počítač s HDD, kde jedou snad ještě Windows 7, dát Linux. Ale musí tam jet prý nějaký MediaMonkey. Tak uvidíme, jestli to Fedora dokáže.
S tátou jsme zkoušeli Linux v době Ubuntu 6.06 a to mu ještě nesedlo. Myslím, že tenkrát jsem mu tam dával Kubuntu a nepomohlo, že měl ještě nějaké Windows only appky. Teď je situace jiná v tom, že jde o nový stroj, Gnome je o galaxii dál než bylo tenkrát KDE a tisíce světelných let přes Windows co se týče použitelnosti. Tak jsem zvědavej, zda si na to zvykne.

Maybe I did something wrong when I installed Foobar2000, but I don't have any volume controls at all. I keep finding posts online about people mapping volume keys, or limiting volume, or adjusting playlist volume, but I have nothing. What am I missing?
It's been forever since I've seen the Foobar 2000 defaults, but I have volume mapped to Ctrl+up and ctrl+down while in the window. Don't remember if it's like that by default. You can also do global maps. All that is in preferences.
@BorrisInABox That's the problem, though: I don't seem to have volume commands I can map. They're not in the list of commands in keyboard settings, they're not in the dropdown menus, and they're not in the main window, not that I can find.
@Scott @BorrisInABox Thanks guys. This morning, the settings were there in the key assignments list, though I still think they were missing last night. But I found them now! Oddly, the volume controls are still missing from the playback menu when I hit alt-p. Maybe they're disabled unless media is playing?
@Scott It doesn't seem particularly strange to me when you consider that doing it through a menu, you would get one step per click, and it wouldn't be worth all that.
@BorrisInABox @Scott That I get, but it just seems like the options would be there for the sake of parity. They are in playback > volume in one place, so I'd expect to find them in that same place in the main UI. If nothing else, binding keys to them by default would make sense. James has to be right that there's a way to control volume that isn't accessible. No volume control at all out of the box seems like a strange choice.
I had another training at my office for people interested in joining the magical free world of #OpenStreetMap. Every time I have different discussion from the attendees, even I do the same workshop. This time was not different.The main focus was now around the need to contribute to #OSM since it's not so widely used. A great topic, indeed!
I have been using for a long time, contributing for a year or two. I notice that even though only the dorkiest of individuals I know knowingly use it, I see OSM data pop up discreetly embedded in a lot of other projects. AllTrails. Package delivery notifications. I think we all use it, actually. 😁

Habe gerade die relativ undankbare Aufgabe acht Exceldateien zusammenzuführen. Sie sind alle identisch und wurden von verschiedenen Abteilungen teilausgefüllt. Die Exceleigene Funktion dafür tut einfach nichts. Sobald ich mehr als eine der Dateien öffne, friert JAWS ein und meldet nach gemessenen vier Minuten zurück, dass die neu geöffnete Datei nicht reagiert. Hätte ja gerne einen Leistungsstärkeren Computer. Aber dieses Denken, dass das absolute Minimum für Bürotätigkeiten schon ausreichen wird, macht mich langsam wahnsinnig.
Mein Arbeitscomputer ist leistungsstark, stärker als nötig sicherlich. Nur leider sogar mit NVDA recht laggy. Woran das wohl liegen könnte? Meine Vermutung, Microsoft + Windows 11 clutter + irgendwelche Firmen Update Sachen + Anti Virus. Sage nicht dass das erstmal schlecht ist, das Teil ist auch noch lang nicht ausgelastet, aber puh. Keine Ahnung was da abgeht. Vielleicht bins auch einfach nur ich...
Never the less die Methode die mir als faulem GenZ Mensch einfällt, die aber Privatsphärerelated mehr als Schmutz wäre wäre Chat GPT bzw generell eine Form KI? Natürlich kommts auf die Daten an und man muss es nach überprüfen, aber damit umgehen sollten sie können. Wie gut/wie gut das Verständniss des Kontextes ist natürlich ne andere Frage. Aber möglich wärs.
@jonathan859 Nein auf gar keinen Fall werfe ich geschäftliche Daten in eine KI. Mal abgesehen davon, dass jede Datei fast 6000 Zeilen hat. Das Ergebnis kannst du gar nicht manuell auf Korrektheit überprüfen.
Ja gut dann ist klar. Bei der Größe stell ichs mir aber auch mit Screenreader als ne Ziemliche Scheißaufgabe vor. Wie schon gesagt es kommt natürlich immer drauf an, gibt ja teilweise auch schon KIs in den Unternehmen Intern etc.

Zum konkreten Problem: wenn sie alle identisch sind, dann nach CSV exportieren und dort zusammenführen? Kann dann ja als komplette Datei wieder in Excel geöffnet und weiterbearbeitet werden und braucht deutlich weniger Rechenleistung.

Lol I feel him. I started using my moms phone around that age, for calling and listening to literally 1 song on YouTube. In 5th grade I started getting into WhatsApp, and doing that on her account was already annoying lmao. I got one for christmas in 5th grade, so with, 11/12? Not exactly sure. And it was some refurbished iPhone X. So yeah, I think 18 is way to old. And I think awareness and good competence with tech and stuff these days is important, knowing how to use it for your advantage, SOS etc. But yup, once you start finding out about YouTube, TikTok etc you're trapped, so don't let that happen to early for sure.
Any data that is collected on servers will eventually leak or be abused otherwise.
By design, no one can enumerate #deltachat profiles which are private and not published on any server. Conversely, #chatmail relays do not see or collect private data or metadata.

We are currently evolving end-to-end security protocols and UX to **survive an attacker fully taking over a server**. The attacker shall not even be able to message users, let alone impersonate anyone.
