In a grand total of 6 mins I: - signed up for a Tidal account. - made a temporary card on my banking app with £0 on it to qualify for the subscription. - verified my student status. - downloaded the Tidal app. - transferred all of my Spotify playlists, albums, and songs to Tidal. - replaced the Spotify widget with the Tidal widget on my phone.
Then it took another 7 minutes to do the following: - cancel Spotify.
I totally agree with you, but honestly, name something better first. Especially in terms of accessibility. Yes WhatsApp sucks, but Signal's Desktop sucks even more, not to mention they don't have a web app.

Why Autistic people are not like icebergs
This year has been long and difficult. There is a myriad of sociological and emotional reasons why, but you do not have time for that rabbit hole. Instead, I wanted to address the ‘Iceberg’ model of autism, and why I struggle with it.
The issue with using an iceberg is that if you put on some cold weather diving gear or hop in a submersible, you can go and see the bits under the water pretty easily (with obvious dangers, safety considerations etc.) To me, it seems that this analogy is inviting people to book a weekend diving trip with a group, ready to explore, take underwater selfies, and then tell people that they really need to go do it to get a real understanding of autistic people.
As an autistic person, I would love it were it that easy. A quick David Attenborough documentary away from truly understanding myself and explaining it to others. Beautiful, simple. Thank goodness autism is an iceberg.
However, that is not true. Let’s talk about masking. You may have heard of masking. Simple right:
• You ask me how I am • I say I am ok (We all know I am not really ) • You say “Are you sure you’re ok? You can talk to me” • I say “Actually I am a bit stressed”
And you have got past the mask, peeked behind the curtain, dived the iceberg. Convenient, ‘deep’ even. Well done you. Only that is not how masking goes (well not for me). Let’s try this again.

You can talk to me” • I feel the need to give you something more, so create a mask with some vulnerability showing and say “Actually I am a bit stressed” • You feel great • I feel like I now have 2 masks and I have to remember which one you have seen so I can be consistent
In reality, I have let you see what you need to see to allow me to continue and you to go away or leave me alone, whilst I try and read from you what I think you need to see and projecting it back at you. You see an iceberg under water and feel like you have made a deep connection, whilst I now have another iceberg I have to maintain for a person.
Now multiply the iceberg by the amount of people I interact with. That’s a lot of icebergs, and they are all different. In reality, the icebergs are all masks. So, you ask, where is the true me, unmasked? Well, I am the ocean, full of deep trenches, hidden mountains and sunken ships. Even I do not understand it, have not explored it, and am frightened by all the things lurking in it. I have therapy sometimes, which is like having freediving lessons.
I am not trying to say I have greater hidden depths than others. I am saying that my reality is far less structured than people think, and far less understood. Even when you think you have seen past the mask, understand it is not a single mask. Everything I do is masked to some extent, except when I am alone, and even then I do it to myself to get by. As an adult diagnosed late in my 30’s I have been moulded to conform from birth, copying, mirroring, tweaking, acting, and have built so many personas and characters that I do not really know who the core me in this 'Russian doll of masks' is.
I am not aiming for sympathy, pity, or a clap for my bravery. I just would like people to know that what you see is what I think you need to see. If you need a true answer, you need to see me in person, where I feel safe, having built up a relationship of trust, and even then, I won’t really know how far past all the masks you have seen.
Ve Fedoře mi nefunguje vypalování CD/DVD, jen přes roota. Přidat se do skupiny cdrom nepomohlo, wodis hlásí, že se nemůže dostat k zařízení. Neměla jsem ještě čas to debugovat, ale zeptám se rovnou - kam byste to nahlásili jako bug? Asi rovnou na distro jako takový? Uvítala bych, kdyby stačilo nainstalovat brasero/k3b, připojit externí mechaniku a rovnou vypalovat, ne že budu pracně řešit a lovit z paměti jak vlastně fungujou mechaniky na Linuxu.
Určitě do bugzilla.redhat.com. Akorát nevím, na jakou komponentu a kdo by se tomu mohl věnovat. Už to ani sám nevyzkouším. Poslední mechanika odešla z domu se starým počítačem před měsícem a zapisovatelné médium jsem v ruce neměl tak 10 let. :/
Nedávno jsem tu dělal pořádek a našel vypalovačku do USB a jedno RWčko. Tak jsem chtěl obojí zkusit s Brasero z Flatpaku, že bych dětem ukázal, jak se fungovalo v dřevních dobách. Končilo to na nějaké chybě, takže ta zkušenost byla velmi podobná jako tenkrát. Myslel jsem ale, že problém je někde u mě.
@bycx Ono to je tím, že už to lidi skoro vůbec nemají a nepoužívají a tyhle věci se potichu rozbíjejí. A pro distribuci už je to tak okrajová technologie, že se jí nevyplatí mít na to test casy a systematicky to testovat. Jediné řešení je někdo aktivní v komunitě, komu na tom pořád záleží a kdo to bude dál testovat a hlásit relevantním vývojářům problémy.

Jinak dívám se, že doma v počítači mám MT7927, což je podobný čip používající stejný ovladač, tak se můžu mrknout, jak funguje. Hardware to rozpozná, wifi sítě najde a připojí se to k nim, ale jedu primárně na LAN, takže problémy se stabilitou jsem nezaznamenal.

Ever heard of The Ping Of Death?
There was a couple of years there - years, hand to god - where you could throw a single malformed or too-large packet across the network at any IP you could see, and if you malformed it just right for its OS, you could crash the machine. You could kill a Windows machine with one line in cmd.exe.
Because the Ping Of Death was an RCE. If you sent _just the right_ kind of malformed or too large packet - and you cleaned up after yourself - you suddenly had a system where you could basically ask any computer you could see to do whatever you wanted, and it would do that for you and then quietly go on its way.
I was temping for Global Affairs Canada in the late 90s, then called DFAIT; I got to hang with some old-school-then, semi-retired CSIS sigint guys.
I'm sure the situation has improved - I don't think winsock.dll or Wolverine have ever had a proper pentest teardown, even for historical amusement's sake - but I have to assume, given that we live in a world where there are no specialized chips anymore, and everything from the boutique brand-namiest NICs to the dodgiest junk you'd find in a Shenzhenese dumpster is a general-purpose CPU running some tiny OS of questinably determinate provenance, that... well, you have to wonder.

Might be different here, but the website (when OCRed) seems covered by the signin popup. It seems like the player is not supposed to be visible unless you sign in, it's probably an accessibility bug that it is.
This happens sometimes, screen readers (for good technical reasons) don't really understand the concept of something being visually covered by another object.
You can sometimes do extremely fun stuff because of this, like reading the personal data of some random customer that somebody didn't properly remove from their contract template. Or chitchat between the editors of your textbook.

sadly the US laws when you export software (out of US and Canada) are a lot more stringent with a max length of 64 key... which makes little sense if exporting to countries not linked to hell, like china, russia etc and harms the US as software therefore can't be sold on the playstore for Europe etc
Definitely, Tuta improves its product every day, and after open-sourcing it has become even more reliable. However, I think you run too many ads attacking alternatives that share some of your values — it comes across like badmouthing a colleague, and people don’t respond well to that. Right now Tuta offers encryption and security features that are unparalleled in the industry; in my opinion, that alone is the key selling point.IMHO

@gagagoogle Chat Control has been updated and it no longer requires undermining encryption - while in Switzerland a law to break encryption and to retain data for email and vpn services is currently being discussed.

What I'm gathering currently being discussed in Swiss (and not decided yet) is that providers might in the future need to "retain metadata—who you talk to, when and where—without breaking encryption"

One thing that’s throwing me off, however, is having to click them more tab to access settings and other things such as muted items, drafts, etc. There seems to be no way to get all tabs to show on the tab bar at all times. I just informed Envision that I am cancelling my preorder of the Ally Solos Glasses. It's been stuck in Customs for ten f*cking days, even thoguh I filled out a largely inaccessible PDF form that was absolutely atrocious and complicated. I also told Fedex that I am refusing reception. of the package. With that hassle with a shipment alone, I simply don't trust them to be able to handle things if the glasses need repairing. Furthermore, I've read too many less than favorable reviews. I find the app itself unnecessarily complicated, and the combination with the glasses seems to make matters even worse. Nope, I want my money back, thank you very much.

Good on you. I think that maintainers' wasted time should absolutely be called out. Companies have simply thrown a blabberbox at people and told them to "use it". It doesn't mean the human using LLM tools absolves themselves from responsibility when they waste people's time. If we start a car, don't steer properly, and then drive into someone's garden we're responsible for the damages too, right?
OMFG!! Thanks for sharing this. I had no idea how bad it was. I figured that AI would be used to try to find vulnerabilities, & I thought there could be some good that came out of that (& maybe there still is.) But when the AI is just submitting a string match to a potentially vulnerable function, that's not exactly helpful. (One could say it's not AI at all!) And then to have it hallucinate a code flaw and argue with you about its result, absolutely takes the cake.
@Ehay2k yes, but at the same time there are also quite capable and good AI powered code analysis tools that actually find lots of good stuff too. The worst and the best at the same time.
I now have about a dozen talks I want to see at #FOSDEM and, miraculously, none of them clash!

I was just experimenting with the MP3 player that is on the BrailleNote classic, and it sounds like it is decoding as 8-bit mono PCM. The reason I think this is the case is because I heard 8-bit quantization noise during quiet passages, and there was no stereo separation at all.
Yeah it seems that way to me as well. I still wonder if that decoder was made in-house or licensed from somewhere. mp3decode.dll is copyable but doesn't have any resource info.
@MutedTrampet It is possible that the Project Mayo entry in the information list might have something to do with the MP3 decoder. This item isn't present when running KeySoft 4.02, and I believe the media player was introduced in 5.0.
Possibly. Searches seem to suggest that Project Mayo was related to the DivX codecs, and archives of projectmayo.com mention a DivX Player for PocketPC with support for the MP3 format.
