At the risk of sounding like an unhinged fanboy: XMPP is pretty awesome! I’ve been involved in one way or another with XMPP, the network protocol that is an open standard for messaging and presence, for the last two decades.
But I am confident I can improve or even fix this 🙂 My monitoring already alerted me a few times but a friendly user told me about the issues, too. That shows me this is a serious problem and I have to do something!
Je fajn, že ještě dost lidí využívá #xmpp Asi už to nikdy nebude jak v roce 2008, kdy u mě na Mandrivě běželo Kopete a Pidgin, ale XMPP šlape stále a v rychlosti a v jednoduchosti na něj nemá myslím žádný messenger 👍

for the record (since this was asked in the Q&A), there is a funded NLNet project for MLS in #XMPP: nlnet.nl/project/XMPP-MLS/ and the prospects are looking quite good

@stepan Everybody can bring some people to #xmpp and help the network grow. There are also @snikket_im (easy to selfhost server for an invitation based friends and family server) and #quicksy (xmpp with phone no. ID for friends who want a WhatsApp/signal experience) which make that quite easy. @joinjabber
As it is a long, long tradition Conversations is available for free on the Google Play store for the last week of December.
This tradition was originally born so that when I meet people at Chaos Communication Congress and they ask what I do, they have an easy way to install Conversations. In that regard it's a very special year as we are seeing the return of CCC.

I just finished a refactor of the Jingle File Transfer code in #Conversations_im. The P2P file transfer code was probably one of the oldest code in Conversations. The new code should be a lot more resilient and brings support for XEP-0343: Signaling WebRTC datachannels in Jingle¹. This means we should be able to exchange files directly with #XMPP web clients. Due to the better NAT hole punching of WebRTC vs Socks Bytestreams we now have a higher chance of actual P2P.
