So Thundebird on Linux stores its temporary files in Downloads folder, because of #snap distribution. Plenty of user complaints as this goes against everyday logic of everything in Linux: forum.snapcraft.io/t/thunderbi…

Thank you for your reply. I did some internet search and found that many other snaps are also affected by this “design”, most notably Firefox. There they also had endless debates about $DOWNLOAD/firefox.tmp.

Mit der Umstellung von #Thunderbird auf #Snap in #Ubuntu hat sich #Canonical echt ein Ei gelegt:
Nach dem Update auf 24.04 sind einfach alle Mails und Einstellungen weg. Es gibt keinen automatisch Import während des Updates.
Ich konnte das Problem damals glücklicherweise schnell lösen, weil das Profil natürlich nicht gelöscht war.
Ich habe darüber gebloggt und bekomme inzwischen fast täglich dankbare Kommentare, weil verzweifelte Anwender*innen ihre Mails retten konnten.

Years ago elementary was approached by Canonical to become an official Ubuntu flavor. “All” we had to do was offer Snap out of the box. We debated it—being able to offload some additional infrastructure concerns was attractive—but we realized it helped Canonical more than it helped us, and we had chosen Flatpak for all of its benefits as covered here:
