@a11yMel All fair. But 1 leads to 2 which leads to 3. :) I think the same is likely true for any instrument. I grant, however, that recorder is often not taught with real enthusiasm or skill, which leads to poor playing that never really improves. I was lucky to have a classroom teacher who actually really loved it as an instrument and was quite passionate about teaching us to play it well and in harmony.
It was a gateway instrument for me, but not as a student. Last year, I was recommended a Youtube video about this topic. This made me research more, and soon I had an alto and a tenor. Finding which of these I wanted led the Youtube algorithm to start serving me tin whistle videos. Now I have four tin whistles and am waiting on a very expensive low F whistle to be made for me by hand. I also still have the recorders.
I was just given my late uncle's tenor recorder. I've played soprano since a child, so was surprised how difficult it is to get a good tone. I'm going to have to spend some serious time on it when it's no longer open windows season.
@sbourne Oo nice! Is it wood? I think wood instruments can take a while to wear back in after they haven't been used for a while, so it could be partially that too perhaps?

@ebassi over in gnome-crosswords / libipuz land, we are waiting for summer of code to be over and things to settle down before starting to move libipuz's JSON code to Rust for this reason. I have a MR for one of the awkards structs there with a ton of fields, and it's so nice to see the code become basically declarative instead of "does this field exist? stringify it? pass it to json-glib?".
@federicomena the simplest way possible is to have a GObject class with its properties, and then use JSON-GLib to serialise/deserialise the properties, because that has some level of reflection; but if you have a dictionary it falls apart…
no problem, glad it worked out. If you have custom data, I also recommend registering (de)serialization functions to boxed types, or overriding the JsonSerializable interface

@zoul Yep. They have their own language called MonkeyC. It's terrible really. 🙂 And in the SDK they provide an emulator which crashes a lot or for some reason doesn't emulate setting you ask it to. 🤷
