Hi, I am not exactly sure how best to frame this, but recent events have got me wondering where exactly Framework, as a company, stands with regards to human rights and equality.
I bought a new frame.work 13 last month. I now regret that.
Not only sponsoring people with utterly hateful views, and promoting others with the same, but now arguing that a 'big tent' approach is somehow suitable. Not even a hint of an acknowledgement that it might be a bad idea to give hateful people money.
We support open source software (and hardware), and partner with developers and maintainers across the ecosystem. We deliberately create a big tent, because we want open source software to win.

The more I read the timeline on the Fediverse (which is quite a lot inclined to the left), the more often I read the word "fascists" and "nazis", applied to a whole bunch of people. First I was horrified: "What? Nazis? Fascists? No no, not again, please, it's awful, absolutely disgusting!". then, when I sifted deeper through the information, those people accused to be "nazis" were actually either just right-wing activists or had *some* far-right points of view, but most of their reasoning was moderate. Then again there were posts like "fascist! Nazi! block him! Boycot him!" — and the person in question said something like "there's too much far-left discourse in the modern society" or "My country doesn't take enough measures to integrate immigrants from certain regions of the planet" or even "I don't support hamas". You know what, dear leftists? that is a classical case of "The boy who cried wolf" (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Boy_…). When real wolves come, nobody will trust you because even now, when I see "fascist" or "nazi" applied to someone, my first thought is not "what a horror!", but rather "someone disagreed with the far-left again". And I wouldn't be surprised if someone calls me a nazi after this post, given the fact that I'm Ukrainian, lived in four countries and always work in multicultural environments, my best friend is Israeli and my son-in-law is Lebanese-French (so "nazi" of what "nation" am I?). It's one of the most effective and pernicious ways of taking over a system. Have a core of supporters willing to disassociate themselves with those who don't do what you ask, and then extend that disassociation to everybody who doesn't disassociate with the "cancelled" people themselves.

Interestingly, its the left-leaning people who say Free Palestine (myself included) that I hear so often called Nazis or anti-Semitic. It makes me shake my head just as much as being called a libtard does. Like yeah, I think Israel should stop bombing civilians, and I'm not a Zionist, but I also don't hate Jews, yet somehow that makes me an anti-Semitic Nazi who would probably throw Jews in gas chambers. My view is pretty simple. The Jewish people are entirely different from the state of Israel. There is historical significance tying the Jews to Israel, but killing 50000 civilians to try and say hey don't kill Jews again is very very counter-intuitive. And, to be clear, because I also get told I support Hamas when I bring this up, I absolutely do not. I believe that *both* Hamas and the Israeli government are evil, but I am 100% anti-killing innocent civilians.
I'll also add that fascist is probably being thrown around more liberally than it should, but in the United States, the president is trying to take talkshow hosts off the air who say bad things about him. Violating the first amendment of the constitution so blatantly does sound like fascism to me, I'm afraid to say. That doesn't mean that anyone who has right-leaning views is automatically a fascist, of course not. But the ones in power sure seem to have some fascist ideals at least.
@TheQuinbox Yes, here I agree. My take was just not to overuse those words, especially "nazi". Maybe it's an Eastern European thing, but if you say "nazi" to people like me, we instantly imagine mass murders, gas cameras, "medical" (in quotes) experiments on alive people, and so on, and so forth which I even don't want to write. Hence my stanza to be cautious with it.
Oh you have full agreement from me there, overusing a label is exactly how you make it lose its meaning. Unfortunately in the modern world we live in, we do seem to have actual fascists among us at the very least. Once again that label shouldn't be overused, but it sadly does exist, as do people who still hold Nazi philosophies, although those are rarer.
People need to learn some history. They are throwing words without truly understanding what they are saying. History, as it is taught in schools, is highly sanitized, but there's plenty of information out there if people want look deeper.

I mean... I get your concerns, but on the other hand, if protected correctly, it's super mega convenient. I would love to have something like that, not to deal with huge amounts of papers like here, not to have various numbers and references in various instances. Don't know, maybe it's because I'm an immigrant and I constantly deal with documents.
I have one from another country. I'm OK with it because the critical data is in my possession, not on their servers. The UK model, like age verification, is a recipe for disaster.
I have a Spanish one, and it's also very convenient. Same model: PKI, you identify yourself the first time you get it and on renewals, keys live in the card, cannot be extracted, and are signed by the state. It makes a large number of things such as authenticating to deal with the public administration a lot easier.

Thank you. As an Irish citizen I already objected to ChatControl by writing to every Irish MEP. I will certainly object to any attempt to introduce any back doors. I do wish, however, that people would stop saying "the EU" or "Country X" wants to do things when the reality is always that some politicians want to do so--and are very likely not to succeed. Ireland doesn't even have a security clearance process for access to govt information--which should be a higher priority.

You're giving DHH too much credit here. The project is BSD-licensed and has a development process similar to many smaller OSS projects. DHH uses/endorses hundreds of these (including Framework itself). Probably thinking about it for less than a minute.
the Nazi bar thing applies to big tents too. The roof being more flimsy doesn't stop Nazis taking over.
And given that someone with access to the purse strings thought it was a good idea to give money to a dhh project given the recent "noise", I'd say they are already throughly embedded.

Ne, není, ale ot o nejde. Používám to jako daily driver pracovní mašinu, a na tyhecty kravinky typu "nainstaluju betu a počkám, jestli to další tři měsíce bude stabilní" nějak už není nálada ani čas 🙂
(A na domácím desktopu chci taky raději trávit čas hraním, čuměním na filmy nebo Pornhub, ne rýpáním se pod kapotou...)

@theron29 No, je to jen o přístupu, každý to máme jinak a je to tak dobře. Taky používám Fedoru jako daily driver a na hrátky mám jiný počítač, ten v dílně. Ale každopádně to jak píšeš, že nainstaluju betu a pak čekám zda bude stabilní je fakt blbost, beta Fedory je bezproblémová a pro někoho kdo rád zkouší nové věci a tím pádem nemá rád Vintage distra, které v roce 25 mají kernel max 6.11 a Gnome 46, je Fedora, nebo Arch ta správná volba. 🤷♂️ Není čas, ztrácet čas 😁 @archos @johnny @zoufalec
