"bash: yotune: command not found"

In case anyone was wondering, when you type "yotune" on a terminal, unless you map an alias, you will not get uptime.

Yotune is also not a really bad iTunes rip-off.

This PSA brought to you by me, sucking at typing.

I mean, at least when I type something wrong, it's really, really wrong..., like "gesrib" instead of "bridges" a couple of weeks ago.

The United States is a global superpower,
and its military trains for war in every domain.

During my years as a military educator, I saw American officers wrestle with any number of scenarios designed to challenge their thinking and force them to adapt to surprises.

One case we never considered, however, was how to betray and attack our own allies.

We did not ask what to do if the president becomes a threatening megalomaniac who tells one of our oldest friends, Norway,
that because the Nobel Committee in Oslo refuses to give him a trophy,
he no longer feels
“an obligation to think purely of Peace”
and can instead turn his mind toward planning to wage war against NATO.

As my colleague Anne Applebaum wrote today, Donald Trump’s threatening message to the Norwegian prime minister should, in any responsible democracy,
force the rest of the U.S. political system to act to control him.

The president is talking about an invasion that would require
“citizens of a treaty ally,” as she put it,
“to become American against their will,”
all because he
“now genuinely lives in a different reality.”

And yet neither Congress nor the sycophants in the White House seem willing to stop him.

"We should stop using open source software written using 'AI'", I say

"That's impossible," people tell me. "There's no way you'll be able to tell the code was written using AI"

I'm definitely going to improve more of the phonemes to sound like the original, we're not quite there with the British 5/9 now getting impacted by the Americanized version, but we will get there. I do think this last version made things better, not worse there. But yeah, UK and US shouldn't conflict on linguistic rules like that for sure.

A weather report done in Trump speak. he even uses metric for a bit: Look, we have the best weather in Palm Beach, believe me. Everyone says it. It’s a beautiful night, absolutely spectacular. We have a temperature of 15°C, which is perfect, frankly, it’s much better than what they have in those other places—those cold, shivering places.

The sky is clear with periodic clouds, very high-end clouds, the best you’ve ever seen. We have a wind coming from the north at 11 mph—it’s a gentle wind, a very smart wind. The humidity is at 72%, very nice. 500 times better than other places. and the chance of rain? 0%. No rain, zero, that's 300% better. because we like to win, and we’re winning with this weather.

For the rest of Monday, January 19, 2026, it’s a total success:

High Temperature: A very strong 19°C.

Low Temperature: 8°C, very cool, very crisp.

Condition: Partly sunny, then clear. It’s going to be a beautiful situation.

OK. The add-on that does work! Minimal pops, if any. Yes, maybe occasionally, but I compared this driver with the previous one, and we get a slightly faster speed for speech in this one, so pops may also be because we're able to interrupt the engine a little faster by optimizing code. eurpod.com/synths/nvSpeechPlay…
Remember new settings defined in default.yaml inside the packs\lang: legacyPitchMode, legacyPitchInflectionScale. All there. Toggle it off if you hate it.
Another setting for languages: lengthenedVowelFinalCodaScale, It applies to any vowel that has a length mark ː, only when the vowel is followed by one or more consonants in the same word, and there are no later vowels in that word (so it’s the "final syllable” vowel".

@jmd2000 yeah, was wondering how divided people would be on LegacyPitch, that's what the formula it used before moving towards ESpeak. If I get like, a majority of people saying the synth is horrible with it I'll ship it with it off. I think it for sure gives it more of an Eloquence feel, Espeak tends to do word inflection downwards more heavily and that's what they borrowed as well in later drivers.

Finally we have reached racial equality

@GamingWithEars this one is a pleasure to use. I find that things are getting better, in terms of accessibility, while also getting worse at the same time and with the same products. There's this idea that if you can use the product, it's accessible. The problem is that nobody cares how hard it is to use. The only thing people are able to focus on is "can you use it"? Not "will you enjoy using it"? or even "can you use it in a reasonable amount of time?". Sighted people don't have to deal with whether it can be used. Rather, they already start where our stuff ends and get to ask "is it a pleasure to use?". Sometimes the answer is no, but at least they are able to ask the question.

Many are probably familiar with how unfriendly the #Fediverse / #Mastodon is to non-white cultures.

In my opinion, if you really care about wiping out Fediverse white supremacy with actions and not just empty words... you should be following ALL TurtleIsland.social moderators and admins.

This is a podcast.
no no, just wait a minute.
This is not just *any* podcast, this is #StroongeCast.

Strange name, great cohost in the form of my lovely wife Kirsten.

Come for the name, stay for her dulcet tones, I promise you won't be disappointed.
Here's a 5-minute highlight reel from a handful of episodes over the last year.
Time for the blurb.

Why does F4 feel like a boob?
Why do Jake's friends think his dad is a lazy sod?
Why does being guided around all day make you want to go sit in a quiet hotel room and jump on dating sites?
Why did my wife faint at a bus stop at 5 in the morning, mere moments before we were supposed to catch a plane?
Why did an angry mum smack her child and say 'WE don't smack?'

Time to find out.

Sadly, During cancellation, the current approach doesn’t allow for a proper fade-out, as isSpeaking is set to False too quickly, stopping the audio loop from processing the fade-out frame. Hmm. Now that's a challenge to solve. Instead of using silence frames, I could create a separate pending queue for index markers I think.

can you imagine the kind of cultural and technological engineering effort it took to make it so installing an unknowable surveillance device in your home is easier than being able to use the abundant internet coursing through reality that you already own to simply be able to ... have your own camera

Let’s be honest, Ring was already some technocratic, dystopian BS, but if you needed a reason to finally, finally kill it with fire, here’s your reason: Ring is partnering with Flock to help ICE spy on you and your neighbors for the government 👀

this is exactly correct. i've had the misfortune to do some camera wrangling. this is very much a case of "please consider if you really need it, and if you do, here's [2-3x my normal hourly rate]".

only in this line of work have i seen a large corporate customer not be given a complete schematic for a devboard (a very basic one, p much just MIPI, I2C, and a few sidebands connected) except as a blurry image in microsoft teams screenshare with a pinky promise that you won't screenshot it (because the terms of the NDA with $sensor_vendor prohibit even acknowledging that the sensor has pins)

Mozilla wants your input. Here's mine:

Mozilla should be doing two things and two things only:

1: Building THE reference implementation web browser, and
2: Being a jugular-snapping attack dog on standards committees.
3: There is no 3.

Mozilla should have NOTHING to do with AI. Nobody wants it. Stop forcing AI into every corner of every project because your VC-brained management have completely lost the plot.

I think it’s really stupid that in order for you to type the period on a touchscreen keyboard, you have to click the numbers at the bottom just to get to it. In address bars, and email address fields, it’s right there next to the spacebar. Why can’t it be like that in all textfields? This is why I prefer texting on my laptop. I think there should be an extra row of preferred and most used punctuation symbols. That would make typing a whole lot more convenient.
