Já jsem se přechodu dlouho bál, párkrát jsem ho zkusil a zase se rychle vrátil ke Googlu, ale naposledy jsem si před pár měsíci předplatil kagi.com a jsem s nimi úplně spokojený. Jako již tradičně je velká úleva zažít zase produkt, který je opravdu stavěný pro vás jako uživatele, nikoliv pro investory nebo inzerenty.
Pouzivas k tomu i ten Orion browser? Vyuzil jsem prilezitosti, ze si to pripomel a vyzkousel ho. Neni to uplne spatne.

Orion jsem chvilku zkoušel a moc se mně líbil. Skončil jsem ale tam, kde končím vždycky – na integraci klíčenky, kterou má Safari zdaleka nejlepší a nejsem schopen tam dělat žádné kompromisy v UX. (Mně Kagi přijde taky drahé, protože platím za sebe i za ženu, což je dohromady přes 400 Kč měsíčně, a to je na moje poměry za jednu službu strašný ranec.)
Je to bohuzel tak, funguje jenom export/import. Podle me je tohle strategie Applu, za posledni ~3 mesice uplne rozbili integraci jejich klicenky do Chromu. Chvili to fungovalo dobre, ale ted v podstate heslo z Apple klicenky nezadas a kdyz se ti to povede propojit, tak ti vyhodi overeni kodem na nahodnem devicu.
Dost bojuju, jestli tomuhle dark-patternu podlehnout.
@mwenisch Věřím, že to dělají záměrně. (Mimochodem ale třeba Firefox měl afaik roky otevřený ticket ohledně integrace klíčenky na macOS a nakonec řekli, že to nebudou dělat, takže občas i to chování konkurenčních prohlížečů je wtf.) Nicméně tohle nebo možnost svobodné volby vyhledávače jsou věci, které bysme z Applu měli vytřískat regulatorně, neměli by mít možnost takhle zneužívat vlastnictví operačních systémů.

Používáme searxng.cz na našem serveru přes dva roky a za mě spokojenost. SearXNG je open source metavyhledávač – znamená to, že když zadáš dotaz, neptá se jen jednoho vyhledávače, ale tahá výsledky z více zdrojů najednou (Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Wikipedia, atd.). Nic se neukládá, žádné reklamy, žádné sledování, prostě vyhledávání bez komerce a trackingů. Výhoda je v anonymitě a flexibilitě – můžeš si sám nastavit, které zdroje chceš používat, výsledky jsou rychlé a na serveru se nic neukládá. @Unreed @Erwin_Schroedinger @phx

Over the past week or so, I've been hacking away at a fun little project. Paperback, my second shot at a cross-platform ebook and document reader. Quinread, the one I wrote while in high school was in Python and didn't use great coding practices, and all the other existing solutions seem unmaintained or don't behave how I want, so in typical me fashion, I'm writing my own. It's written in C++ with wxWidgets, so it'll hopefully be cross-platform, although I've currently only tested on Windows. It's entirely open source, and under the MIT license. I can't make any promises about this project other than to say that I genuinely enjoy working on it and don't see any reason to stop, but it both starts up and loads giant documents incredibly fast. github.com/trypsynth/Paperback…

Mind you, it was an accident. Talkback was pretty new and obviously very finnickky. I hadn't set out to break the thing. And then, the next day they were giving out free ice cream. Yes, I had the nerve to get some, in spite of what had happened the day before. I'm sure they were not impressed.

Are any other @thunderbird users seeing the issues that @winterschon wrote about in this post? I've been seeing the high resource usage, just not quite as high (but almost as high). Thank you for sharing this. It's strange, but the issue persists on my Fedora desktop but the issue is not present on my Debian Stable laptop. I will keep digging in to see if I can find the issue with Fedora.
A bit more info. The install on Debian is a Flatpak, and it seems to be fine. The resource issue is on Fedora, installed from the Fedora rpm repo. I am going to remove the rpm and install a Flatpak to see if that resolves the issue.
Sorry for not updating! I actually removed the rpm from Fedora and installed the Flatpak. The issue is no longer there. I'm not sure if the issue was the rpm or not. Definitely a strange issue. Thanks for following up.
On my Fedora laptop, when I launch Thunderbird and filter for it in htop, I see dozens of PIDs each showing around 3640 MB virt, 570 MB res, and a varying amount shr.
That is with 5 IMAP accounts, 1 CardDAV, 1 CalDAV and several (manually refreshing) RSS feeds.
