In my case I used to admin a Cisco phone system (I say admin, it was really occasional adding or changing users/hunting group, all the real work was done by highly qualified Cisco engineers!)

Perspective 2/2: With TalkBack reading controls, one can't move to edit boxes, check boxes or combo boxes separately as we just have a single Controls item, and that makes locating specific areas on webpages a lot more challenging. Heading navigation is doable, though. Other than that, the use of a good ad blocker on both platforms makes browsing a whole lot easier. Here's that post: applevis.com/forum/ios-ipados/…
I doubt this will make me popular, but I have to say, I was playing around in both Safari and Firefox today. The experience, while doable, is terrible. Web pages seem to load pretty slowly. Heading navigation works intermittently.
What TTS, other than ESPeak has the latency responsiveness of eloquence on android? I liked what I saw when I played with android except for the speech synthesizer latency.
@serrebi Google TTS has become quite responsive. And in combination with an app like AutoTTS, its high-quality voices can also be utilized for all supported languages even in combination with other engines, with the same degree of responsiveness.
OK, I’ll take another look at Google text to speech then. I think this time around I was using Samsung TTS. It was pretty good, but it was still noticeable compared to eloquence for me, but I’m just so used to eloquence that I really don’t want to use anything else.
talk back definitely needs them all to be separate, I just tried with Talkback and then switch to CSR which has all of them separate and CSR is awesome and works very well at this
@J3317 Absolutely. Google should really separate them and allow for their inclusion or exclusion in the reading controls. CSR AKA Jieshuo Does a great job in this regard, and with a lot more customizations.
@evilcookies98 @J3317 True. The fact that a single developer can make such a powerful screen reader alternative in the form of CSR means Google is doing very little to push the TalkBack project forward.
@J3317 I like to give it credit though because in the past three months, I’ve never had it just randomly stop talking on me, requiring me to restart things seven times. In the rare case where the speech engine does crash, one restart is sufficient. I think I’ve seen precisely one of those. I like CSR a lot from the weekend I had to use it when talkback was broken, but there are two things that bother me. One, you cannot use voice typing. If you have it set to use the accessibility volume. Two, you cannot use the find the key and then double tap on it typing method, which is my preference to avoid accidental typos that I may not always catch.
@evilcookies98 @J3317 Yes, it works great in this regard. It might not have the bells and whistles of CSR, but it functions quite reliably. Your points re CSR's typing issues are also well taken.
@J3317 if not for the language barrier I would’ve sent off a note to the developer months ago. I’m about to take my phone to the computer and have a chat with ADB so I can get this thing reinstalled because the package installer doesn’t currently work in 15.
@J3317 it’s kind of funny that I have not ran into a third-party app yet that doesn’t work, but try to side load an app and the package installer itself refuses to function
It's sad we have to use ad blockers just to browse the internet these days as blind people. On PC I get issues often because of ads, which also slow down my device.
@kev It sure is, and is also platform-agnostic. All screen readers absolutely benefit from the presence of a good ad blocker, like AdGuard, regardless of the OS used.
@kev It's a smart way of handling ads altogether. Of course, a problem might arise where some websites ask you to disable your blocker if you want to continue. And if you need to continue, disabling the blocker that way might take a lot more time compared with disabling it, say, on Windows or Android.
To disable my blocker I turn off wi-fi when on my phone, or visit the pi-hole web interface on my PC and press disable which is near the top. Or I just don't use the website... I wish there was a way to hide the fact you're using a blocker to the website.

Není to síť pro lháře a teroristy, spousta lidí tam bohužel zůstává, protože tam jsou ostatní. Já při odchodu ztratil kontakt s výbornou partou českých makerů, bastlířů a elektroniků. Několik odešlo a vrátilo se, tady zůstalo jen minimum. Všechno je to o dosahu a propojení.
Přemýšlím, co na to napsat, já opravdu pro důvod "protože tam jsou ostatní" nemám pochopení vzhledem k tomu, co všechno se už stalo. Takový přístup považuju dokonce za potenciálně společensky nebezpečný, pokud by ho lidé aplikovali i na jiné oblasti. Třeba si uživatelé X jen dostatečně neuvědomují, jaký vliv vlastně mají na světové dění jen tím, že Muska dál podporují. @radim

It looks like GNOME Online Accounts moved to a newer WebKitGTK version recently, meaning nothing will display with NVIDIA drivers (even though the content technically renders)... will NVIDIA ever support it? 😬
Assuming it is the NVIDIA/WebKitGTK bug, this is a reminder that while NVIDIA has come a long way with Linux support, when it doesn't work it really doesn't work.

@robini71 I really love those FAST (free ad-supported TV) services. I so far haven't tried the Roku Channel but I love Tubi and Pluto. They both have their accessibility challenges and I'd like to see more advocacy in our community to improve this but they're very interesting services. Of course, they won't have everything that some people might need but they do offer quite a lot.

The tricky part is in the real world there are bad faith actors at both ends. There needs to be some way to determine ground truth of a report without fully trusting either party.

Thanks for taking this fight - do you know if there has been an increase in rubbish CVEs lately/the last few years? I felt like I've seen sooo many "bad CVE => big headline (=> very little headline that the CVE was actually a non-issue)" the last few years, but don't remember this being such an issue > 10 years ago 🤷
@n I don't have any numbers or facts to back up any trend spotting but I too have a feeling it has become more of a nuisance in recent years. Maybe we are all just speaking up more now. Maybe the problem is bigger? The total volume of CVEs has certainly exploded over recent years so it seems natural that the number of bogus CVEs also has.
