So what if some new member posts a link to Lunduke article not knowing about some unwritten rule… and they get banned? Yeah that’s rubbish. Write your rule down somewhere FFS. This will scare off new or unaware users.
Hell, until recently I wasn’t even aware that others disliked the guy as much as I do. The most info I got on him being disliked came from his own articles, which was amusingly helpful.

I'd like to clarify the origin of the accusations against #ImaneKhelif because I don't think most people realize where they came from. The vitriolic mix of of misogynist, transphobic and racist insults against the Algerian athlete started days before the match, largely on Italian papers belonging to far-right politicians and businessmen. Here's a few examples from late July (English translation of the titles is in the alt text). 1/8
One of these papers - "La Verità" - is directed by Maurizio Belpietro, a "journalist" who worked for several papers belonging to the Berlusconi family and who was condemned several times for publishing false and insulting claims against politicians, artists, minority groups and whatnot. He has a long history of racism, mysogyny and homophobia and has recently added transphobia to the collection. 2/8
The other is "Il Giornale", a paper controlled by the Berlusconi family that also has a long history of fabricating false accusations and spreading racist, homophobic and transphobic disinformation. 3/8
In addition to these, a number of similar articles in English appeared in Russian-linked fake online newspapers, some of which have been registered only a few months ago. I won't be linking them but they're easy to find, a search for the athlete name will turn several articles from before the match accusing Imane Khelif of "being a man" on websites with names that are meant to sound like those of actual newspapers. 4/8
This stuff was quickly picked up on Twitter/X by Italian far-right and Russian disinformation networks that amplified their content and eventually reached Elon Musk. Musk felt obliged to share them even more widely. Italian right-wing parties have had long ties to Putin's regime, so it's completely unsurprising to see them spread the same disinformation. 5/8
Which brings us to the reason why this stuff was brought up in the first place: Italy's far-right government is running into trouble, being completely incapable of running the country, and has been isolated within the EU, even managed to fight against other European right-wing parties. This fall they'll probably have to enact large budget cuts which will be deeply unpopular, so they're trying to change the public discourse to *anything* that is not governance. 6/8

@triskelion at least that's what the file name of the APK at their releases suggests. And while a demo is all fine, it's not much use in a repo suppost to offer functional apps, right?

@triskelion I'm no Android dev either, but that would change the app name shown to drop the "Demo".
But before I give you false hope there, I'v just looked into the latest release: wouldn't be welcome at IoD, sorry. Comes with Crashlytics, Firebase, GMS etc – so too many proprietary components. Also, why would a wallet app need your location? The app description gives no clue (but speaks of "privacy"). Draw your own conclusions, and I might be wrong to call that "a bit risky"…

I think "-sLO" seems pretty common as a default. I prefer the extended flag names because it's more clear what's happening for people that aren't as familiar, but of course the short flags involve less typing

Imane Khelif is a cis woman, she has experienced 9 losses against other women in her career, including the 2020 Olympics where she lost against Irish participant Kellie Harrington. Yet, the usual transphobes are currently unleashing a vile attack against her, misgendering her, accusing her of being a man competing unfairly and having some sort of advantage against her fellow athletes, all because she doesn't fit their incredibly limited norm of how a woman should look.
Suddenly, people who never cared or know much about the sport are very interested in women's boxing, and found a scapegoat in her in order to spread their disinformation. Khelif is currently receiving more vitriol than convicted child rapist Steven van de Velde who was still allowed to compete.
This is basically yet another reminder that it was never about genuinely caring for the safety of women. Transphobia is dangerous for everyone, *including* us cis women, and that the links between TERF ideology and white supremacy are very real. Feminism isn't feminism if it's not intersectional.
Lin Yu-ting originally got into boxing wanting to protect her mother from domestic violence, which clearly shows that she has experienced domestic abuse first hand.
Imane Khelif grew up in poverty, she started boxing when she became good at dodging the physical attacks of boys in her village, traveled 10km to train, and had to work to pay for her own bus fare, as her father didn't approve of boxing for girls. An experience that a lot of girls who grew up having so-called "tomboy" interests are probably familiar with. I know I am. She has recently become a UNICEF ambassador, aiming to inspire girls everywhere to chase their dreams. (unicef.org/algeria/en/stories/…)
Not that the transphobia and clear racist undertones of attacking these two women, despite the fact that they are both cis, aren't horrible enough, but there's something particularly sinister and cruel in the fact that the people who decided to paint them as villains and keep circulating disinformation about both, claim to act in the name of ending violence against women and protecting women's rights.
