I took time off work this afternoon and went through the @gnome european event/swag boxes to take inventory and recycle items that are no longer relevant.

I host two of these huge boxes in my house. 😁

Federico Mena Quintero reshared this.

in reply to Felipe Borges

There's also a bigger one folded up that I won't dare to unfold. I can tell is the colorful squared one we used in GUADEC 2013 because I have a photo of me and @federicomena standing in front of it back then. This was in VUT Brno, Czech Republic.

Remember when Montréal was a cosmopolitan city? Yeah, not anymore.

Remember when anglophones believed they had nothing to fear from the CAQ? Yeah, not anymore.

There is something fundamentally wrong with a city that will erase Bonjour-Hi, Bonjour-Woof, Bonjour-Meow, etc. before it deals with OTHER graffiti... OR OTHER THINGS LIKE TRANSPORTATION, TRAFFIC, HOUSING, ETC.

Welcome to the RB family, Image Toolbox 🥳

What we thought to be non-RB turned out to be just non-deterministic. Luckily we know how to deal with that in most cases, though we'd prefer Google fixing the underlying issue 😉 (and yes, there is an issue open with them)

in reply to IzzyOnDroid ✅

I get introduced to a lot of (to me) new apps during your "welcome to RB family" posts. A nice side-effect ^^.

Will try this one - I used Imagepipe up to now.

Edit:
Looks like Imagepipe needs less permissions, which jumped into my eyes in Neo Store ( apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/repo/co… )

@Smojo Always nice to have a list to choose from. And to sometimes find interesting things on it 😉

We celebrate our 31 year anniversary today with hobbyists, tinkerers, enthusiasts, visionaries, innovators, and dreamers. We see you change the world every day and we are proud to explore with you. You made this happen, Thank You! p.s. we kind of have an official thing going on: wiki.debian.org/DebianDay/2024 #debian #debianday.
in reply to Debian

I don't use debian much right now, but it will always have a special place in my heart
in reply to Debian

given that the heritage of Ubuntu and Raspberry pi OS is Debian, we tinkerers have a lot to thank you for.

I always kinda hated this one. I think the point to businesses is real, sure, but it’s important to note that the term “hobby” is used somewhat derisively here. Open source developers and maintainers often see their projects as contributions, not hobbies. I feel like when we accept this narrative, we’re accepting the lie that the only legitimate software is software produced by and/or produced for corporations. I’m not willing to give businesses that monopoly too.
in reply to manchicken moved!

@manchicken I've seen this strip often and never once have taken the use of 'hobby' to be in any way derisive. Such projects may well be professional-grade or better, but that does not mean that it's not a hobby for the maintainers. And there's nothing wrong with that at all.
in reply to Elengale

@elengale @manchicken the original xkcd 2347 strip does not use the word "hobby" anywhere though. My version use that as a reference to a comment on my blog a while back. The phrase in the lower right is a direct quote from that.
in reply to daniel:// stenberg://

@manchicken Whoops, point taken. It's been a while and looks like I took the edit to be pretty convincing!
in reply to daniel:// stenberg://

Honestly, I'm really glad you kept it open and free to use instead of taking such an important thing and cashing in on it like some other softwares have done.

Thanks a lot!

Kinda funny, on friday I literally replaced curl in a codebase with.... curl.

Just a different interface to still use curl. 😅

in reply to daniel:// stenberg://

Out of curiosity, what's the other solid block just below #libcurl? #TianoCore? Actually, can libcurl run directly on top of #UEFI APIs?
in reply to daniel:// stenberg://

OK. Then we should redraw the picture a bit to show that there are multiple kernels, multiple TCP/IP stacks, multiple TLS libraries, but only ONE libcurl.

Variety above and variety below, but one solid block in between, used by virtually everyone.

in reply to JP Mens

caddy is a go program, go programs belong to the modern kind the kids do where everything is static. So caddy can be downloaded with just curl, no bash required... =)

The funding of critical open-source projects of our everyday lives has becond increasingly important. The Sovereign Tech Fund has set out to improve the situation with various programs that assist these projects as @polexa explains.

We're thrilled being joined by @bagder who shares his experiences with maintaining the #curl project and the STF.

@jorgeapaez1994 I should be charged with a crime for promoting the use of Braille embossers? What planet are you from, exactly? In addition, Braille, hardcopy or electronic, is very much alive. While Braille displays have definite advantages over hardcopy Braille, not everyone has access to Braille displays and many people enjoy reading a book or magazine embossed on paper, not to mention using embossers for things like restaurant menus, Braille handouts for meetings, convention schedules, etc., just as sighted people enjoy reading material on paper as opposed to an eReader. Oh, and by the way, while the article I posted wasn't intended to promote the use of Braille embossers, I certainly have no problem in promoting them and I can and will promote whatever technology that I choose to promote. You don't like it? Put your big boy pants on and deal with it or Block me.

@jorgeapaez1994 Braille is not an irrelevant language. In fact, it's not a language, period. It's a way for blind people to read text in their native language. Also, if we kill off Braille, you have condemned the deaf-blind community to illiteracy and done the exact opposite of what you claim you want to do in that deaf-blind people would now become computer illiterate. For that matter, killing off Braille would put the entire blind population into a state of complete illiteracy. I'm not normally this harsh but you're either a troll or you have no idea of what you're talking about.

@storm What were the results of the NVDA experiment we did a while back with Wine? We might potentially get the battle.net launcher working if it was successful, and add that to #audiogame-manager. Was doing some experimentation earlier with Lutris with the help of @Lironah but think it might be portable enough to get working.
in reply to Billy

Wouldn't shutting it down stop it? And did we document someplace how to set it up? I didn't see anything on the wiki for audiogame-manager.
in reply to Hunter Jozwiak

No, it's mostly in the experimental stage at this point, plus with eh problems introduced by wine 9.X, I'm not sure it would even work any more. I think there's a script in AGM to set up nvda in a bottle.
