Encryption guarantees privacy. 🔒

#Gmail #ProtonMail #TutaMail

in reply to Tuta

I will remind that Tuta is based in Germany, and Germany is the biggest oposition to these crazy UE ideas of breaking encryption "to prevent child abuse"
in reply to Tuta

Add to you a red cross for ergonomics and functionality.

These points never appear on your comparisons. But Gmail and ProtonMail are way ahead of the game and several people I converted to Tuta no longer use it because of this. And so, in the end, I send almost no encrypted e-mail.

So I have StraightTalk. And here lately, I've been getting 0 to 1 bar of phone signal. Calls go to Voicemail without me even getting a ring, all that. So I turn on and off Airplane mode, all that. This is with my iPhone SE 2020. If I upgrade to the new iPhone 16, do y'all think that would improve?

@khronos I thought I had Wi-fi calling on, but I'll make sure. I was definitely at home when the latest thing happened.
in reply to Devin Prater :blind:

There also use to be cell phone booster devices that you could get from your provider that would allso your phone to attach too and the other side connected to your internet. I don't know if smaller providers have this feature or not though. It might be limited to the big 3.

I think it’s not correct when #ActivityPub thought leaders consider JSON-LD a schema definition language. I don't think it's an effective alternative to JSON Schema (for JSON) or SHACL or ShEx (for RDF). JSON-LD can’t be used to describe structure and constraints of data, for example. It's primarily an RDF serialization and the only benefit I see for AP is preventing property name clashes when doing full JSON-LD processing. I hope this topic will be reconsidered someday in ActivityPub 2.0.

In Japan children raise their hands while crossing the street to be more visible to drivers.

In Canada I, an average height adult male, often consider whether I should be doing that while I cross the street.

Am I the only one who is actually really annoyed that Lincoln Park is still making music iwth a new singer? Chester can't be replaced it's not right.
in reply to J🎃

I mean, he was the voice of the band's music, it's always the hardest when a lead vocalist is no longer with us, effectively they'll just have two eras of music, the Chester era and the Emily era, and we'll see which ends up becoming more successful although I can make bets. I saw Chester's son wrote "'You Have Betrayed the Trust' of Fans." and is against the change as well, maybe rightfully so.

should there be a patch level in github.com/curl/trurl/blob/mas… or is minor intended?

Update time! #LibreOffice 24.8 is our latest stable branch, with many new features. Today we're releasing LibreOffice 24.8.1 – the first minor update – with bugfixes and compatibility improvements: blog.documentfoundation.org/bl… #foss #opensource #news

LibreOffice reshared this.

in reply to LibreOffice

er, that seems to have introduced a bug: When typing new text at the end of a paragraph that's fully-justified, when the text crosses over the halfway point along the line, it keeps trying to justify the (incomplete, last) line on typing each space.

Excuse typing errors, it's really made me self-conscious how frequent they are, but...

The state of certain Braille AT makes me kinda sad, as someone who works with people who are blind and deaf/hard of hearing.
* Focus Blue displays: costs at minimum $1545. I've had so many calls / requests for repair due to sticking dots or spacebar giving out in particular. Literally I think everyone I've worked with who has one of these ends up getting these problems, even our demos. A repair is a 4 to 6 week turnaround unless it's still under warranty and can be replaced. This is the newest generation. I have an older model myself, and never face these problems despite having had it on a desk that cats like to get on for 2 years.
* BrailleSense: though I acknowledge these have been with the Polaris, and obviously that's the outdated model. I encountered a time where I was trying to copy a large amount of files, and some of them did not copy. There was no error message. I've encountered 2 times where the braille display on it just... stops working. Just poof. NoBraille4U. Send in for repairs and see it again in a month or so. Cost of device: $5795. Cost of repairs. No friggin idea, but I was told it was "hundreds of dollars" by an entity that facilitates these repairs often.
in reply to Stevo

@pixelate Well, known situation. For the Handy tech, today's helptech braille wave, there are no spare barts, despite the device works and even is playing nicely with NVDA. Currently, correcting my Ma thesis with it.

(Please avoid installing the iOS/iPadOS version 6.7.2 of Mona, as it is not functioning. I have temporarily removed the app from the App Store. A newer update is on the way, and it will become available as soon as Apple approves it. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thank you for your patience.)

Anyone ever found a way to make .acsm files produce standard epub? I think I have the wrong version of Adobe editions installed or something, so it's not that useful unfortunately. I just want to read what I purchased, my way.
in reply to Andre Louis

I tried a converter but couldn't get it to work. so now I buy books from Hive and use Codex to convert them. Timothy Wynn wrote a guide on how to set Codex up but I can't find it right now.
@twynn
in reply to Kara Goldfinch

@KaraLG84 @twynn I bought from Kobo and will try to make that work. Yep I remember that guide, followed it closely, but haven't had luck yet. Will keep trying.
in reply to Andre Louis

@KaraLG84 yeah, you have to use an earlier version of Adobe Digital editions because we're not using the latest version of the DeDRM plugin. If memory serves, error logs from Codex/Calibre are found under %AppData%\codex2 if you wanna DM me something that doesn't make sense.

The guide is here: gist.github.com/tmthywynn8/d00…

in reply to Timothy Wynn

@twynn @KaraLG84 I was able to make DeACSM work eventually, I'm using a copy of Calibre portable from Portable Apps, and that way I can carry it with me. I still use codex to convert the epub to other formats, so that's something.
in reply to Andre Louis

@twynn @KaraLG84 you can possibly add the plugin into codex directly and just right-click and convert on your acsm that way, given that Codex is powered by calibre.
in reply to Sean Randall

@KaraLG84 @cachondo All depends if there's a Python 2 compatible version of the plugin, as the Calibre in Codex is 2.x, and the syntax for invocation differs in later versions.

Living in Austria is slowly developing RPG'esque skills in me of retrieving ordered packages from random locations where they happen to be dropped. So far I have a Punjabi eatery and supermarket and a computer repair shop on my list. Fortunately both were close enough in my neighbourhood that I could locate them with no issues. If anybody is in need of a scavenger for their next adventure, I am at your service. Kinda fearful for that package from the US due to arrive in two weeks that I cannot track due to a locked Amazon account. I may actually need a whole DND party for this one. Kinda miss the Polish package vending machines (Paczkomaty). You know where they are so you can learn your way to the nearest one, you pick it during your order and can open it accessibly at a time convenient to you. Also, yes I was home and nobody called me before declaring defeat.

That moment when you're trying to update a nice little package for your distribution of choice only to find out that they have vendored all their dependencies (🧐 ) and also install them all on the (already used) system wide locations (😳 😳 😳 ) i.e. xz, zlib etc. ...

I did not support the space program for my whole life so the taxpayer dollars it all cost could develop systems, techniques, and the math necessary for billionaires to take carnival rides with it.

If they can afford to walk in space, they can pay taxes so that people on the street can live in houses.

And remember: after we have taxed the rich enough to feed and house the underclass, the rich will still be rich.

Remember #curl --libcurl, one of my all time favorite options.

(blog post from two years ago)

daniel.haxx.se/blog/2022/09/12…

#curl
in reply to Zykino

1) I saw a little typo:
> The --libcurl command line option was added to curl already back in 2007 and has been **been** part of the tool since version 7.16.1.
2) A little reminder of the command used in the top comment of the file would be awesome.
3) How do you do this? I’m so intrigued. Some logging at function start that print with its arguments?
4) If `openssl` had that, it would make using it so much simpler. They have too much public functions, and we never now if we found the top/easy level, or the final do_work function… as a newcomer.
in reply to Zykino

@Zykino 1 -fixed 2 - a good idea, yes. 3 - just about every function call made to libcurl in the tool also adds a line to the potential --libcurl output. 4 - no one ever fully understands the OpenSSL API. It is simply too large and too inconsistent.

Hello everyone. I wanted to let people know in YouTube Music if you have an android device, you can enjoy the new ask music feature. This can be found on the home tab of the YouTube Music app. This feature allows you to create radio stations based on the words that you put into the search box and it is generated by AI. So far this feature has created some awesome playlists for me so if this interest you, play with this experimental feature today. This feature is amazing and the playlists that I have generated so far are great. This feature has not rolled out to the YouTube Music on iOS app yet hopefully it will arrive in the future.

Just now, @dumpsterqueer wrote something about "GoToSocial on Wasm sqlite3 with embedded Wasm ffmpeg, both running on Wazero…" and I was reminded of my own Oddmu running a HEIC image decoder in Wasm using a Wasm runtime. Is this the new "compile once, run everywhere" bytecode that is going to replace Java? Is Wasm the new Java?? 😲
in reply to Alex Schroeder

I think so, and I think it's a nice one, given it's a compiler target for tons of languages.
