I use an RSS feed for news, and I’m sure I’m not the only one here on the Fediverse who appreciates the convenience it offers, because it helps me stay informed in a way that suits my preferences.

How do you keep up with the important topics that matter to you?

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I’ve been on Fedi for a year now and have fallen in love with the platform, so here’s my introduction! I studied computer science with a focus on RTOS and FP/PL, but I’m about to start my final semester of law school. I’ll be practicing at a boutique firm that primarily handles IP cases once I’m barred. I foilboard and I play way too many rhythm games in and out of the arcade.

I contribute to open source projects where I can, and I write up my experience in my digital garden which I’ve been maintaining for over a year now. It’s also a good place to find usage tips for projects/tools that you might want to use.

My passion for tech also includes privacy, and I’m an advocate for minimizing your digital footprint. GenAI is a scam and its purveyors are causing real harm while they sell it as hard as they can.

What #linux distrobution has the best accessible gui? I need to duel boot this on the same machine along side windows. #slint #a11y #ubuntu #fedora #archlinux

Hello!
Who knows how do I pin a package to a specific version in #archlinux? Something like apt's package pinning in Debian.

Why? I don't want to update my kernel to newest versions where the team just silently removed more than 10 Russian developers from maintainers list. This is not fair and I will stay on honest versions with honest maintainers list.

#ArchLinux people, do you experience any graphical gliches, missing content / text / images with #GNOME and or #GTK4 apps, since the move to 47 last weekend?

V týdnu na #archlinux dorazilo nové #gnome47 Přepnul jsem po delší době z I3 a zatím super. Možná je to jen můj pocit, ale přijde mi o dost rychlejší.

#Gnome 47 landed to #ArchLinux :gnome: ❤️ :archlinux:

Oh no, #nvidia driver bug brakes #vulkan graphical acceleration and many apps using it wont start. Once again nvidia driver pushes me to look for workarounds... 😡

Pacman, správce balíčků v Arch Linuxu, byl aktualizován na novou verzi. Tato aktualizace může způsobit problémy s yay. Pokud po aktualizaci narazíte na chybu, můžete si yay znovu nainstalovat podle návodu zde:

That moment when you're trying to update a nice little package for your distribution of choice only to find out that they have vendored all their dependencies (🧐 ) and also install them all on the (already used) system wide locations (😳 😳 😳 ) i.e. xz, zlib etc. ...

Question to #blind people who use two #operatingSystems on your computer: How do you dual boot accessibly? I'm getting some help from someone to set up my #computer, and I'm trying to decide between just getting rid of #Windows or dual booting. If I dual boot, I'm thinking of buying a second hard drive just for #archLinux. It's expensive to get another hard drive, but this way I wouldn't need to get rid of #Windows11. Is there anything I would need to do to make this setup #accessible? How do you know when the menu to choose which OS you want comes up?

The second time in a month my #ArchLinux laptop froze during update.
Always the same scenario. Sunday, I returned from trip, waked the laptop up from sleep, run yay -Syu, went to unpack, and then found laptop frozen.
I suspect #nvidia as it always is problem with their shitty driver.

So again:
1️⃣ disable secure boot
2️⃣ boot using arch netboot
3️⃣ unlock and mount root and efi drives
4️⃣ delete pacman lock files
5️⃣ reinstall all packages
6️⃣ reboot
7️⃣ enable secureboot
8️⃣ boot normally

🙄

The Arch Linux Ports #RFC has been accepted and released!

TPM2-measured boot with bus protection is pretty nice actually for Linux installations where secure boot is not enabled, like the default Arch Linux installation for instance.

For the sake of "defence in depth", I'd enable both if it is out-of-the-box feature but would not probably bother with secure boot if it requires extra work.

So, the takeaway from this is that it would make a lot of sense to make measured boot happen in arch-install installation as opt-in feature. No Microsoft key required.

Still so far the most informative overview for the shenanigans is microos.opensuse.org/blog/2023… but I'd also look for more recent references.

Policy hash calculation per kernel package update for LUKS2 is what needs to happen over time whenever a new kernel package is installed with hooks/scripts.

So the thing that was hyped to DRM the world into a locked down hellhole rendered out the Microsoft key hard binding instead 🤷

The #ArchLinux ports #RFC is accepted and ready to be merged and published: gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux…

Although it was a long journey, I'm happy it is now ratified.
Thanks to everyone who spent time writing and reviewing it and provided valuable feedback!

There is still a lot of work ahead adapting and improving our tooling and I hope many will join in this effort.

Here is to #ArchLinux on many more architectures in the future 🥂

(meanwhile I have three more RFCs in the pipeline 😅)

Don't mind me, just reading the news while trying to figure out a #Thunderbird issue where it doesn't download all the emails...

You define a whole category of Linux user on your own. If people can start saying “I use Fedora btw”, it will only be awesome to hear because of you.
