Remember that there is no single or homogeneous "Open Source community". It is an enormously huge, loosely coupled bunch of humans, each with their own goals, ideas and expectations. The few foundations we have don't cover more than just a small fraction of the Open Source done in the world made by millions of humans and some companies.

Don't expect the foundations to necessarily be on your side or view OSS like you do.

After the Open source AI shitshow, now the election shitshow... I mean they are at least slightly less bad than the FSF, but urgh OSI.

It seems we are seeing my predictions of the widening gap between Foundations and maintainers in FOSS happen in real time.

I also expect Licenses to slowly die or descend into trolling. We already see it on github and maintainers discourse. The "clarity" period of FOSS is ending.

The mess that copyright is is going to cost us all so much.

Someone just shared this with me. Holy shit. 🤯

“Yale professors, #TimothySnyder, a historian of totalitarianism and the author of #OnTyranny, and Jason Stanley, a philosopher and the author of How #Fascism Works, move to #Canada” (to positions at the University of Toronto).

The AI bots that desperately need OSS for code training, are now slowly killing OSS by overloading every site.

The curl website is now at 77TB/month, or 8GB every five minutes.

Wow. For a few months, I was wondering why I suddenly have bandwidth issues when activating my camera in MS Teams meetings, so others can't understand me any more.

A look into my #nginx logs seems to clarify. Bots are eagerly fetching my (partially pretty large) #poudriere build logs. 🧐 (#AI "watching shit scroll by"?)

I see GPTBot at least occassionally requests robots.txt, which I don't have so far. Other bots don't seem to be interested. Especially PetalBot is hammering my server. And there are others (bytedance, google, ...)

Now what? Robots.txt would actually *help* well-behaved bots here (I assume build logs aren't valuable for anything). The most pragmatic thing here would be to add some http basic auth in the reverse proxy for all poudriere stuff. It's currently only public because there's no reason to keep it private....

Have to admit I feel inclined to try one of the tarpitting/poisoning approaches, too. 😏

I am wondering if it is possible with #NVDA to search for text in specific colours.

Let's say a co-worker sends you a document and tells you that they have formated some sentences in red and others marked with a yellow background.

How would I quickly find such sentences?

With #JAWS the skim reading feature comes to mind. But I don't know if there is a way to do the same thing with #NVDA.

If the document is in Word, you can use Word's own find feature to search for text of particularly colours (press control+h for find / replace, then alt+m for more, then alt+o for formatting, select font or paragraph etc and choose the formatting to search for. Press control+page down or control+page up to find the next or previous occurance of text with that formatting.

we have been playing around with our ring doorbell today. trying to get the settings to our liking, and testing the recording and downloading of videos. this is very nice and very accessible on android, and the IPhone. not sure about downloading videos on the IPhone, as I don't do that, but at least that part is very accessible on android, and I know where the mp4 video files are.

Me, years ago: "I don't live next door, I'm going to friggin' bulletproof my parents' network equipment against micro-outages and that house's shitty electric wiring. I'm putting all of this critical equipment on an uninterruptible power supply, so that it's backed up by a big battery. Oh, let's put the file sync server on this too."

Generational wealth works in both directions. Most people who say they “started from nothing” and "built their business from scratch" also never had to pay for the poverty of their parents who paid for the poverty of theirs, who paid for the poverty of theirs.

Debt and wealth are BOTH generational. "Starting from scratch" means you started two rungs up the ladder already and never even had to claw your way out of the pit.
