It's still true that a lot of games, even ones that have #accessibility features, do not accomodate the fully blind. And it is also still true that #games we do get to play are made playable by volunteers who mod or even disassemble the game in order to add features that game developers and publishers could have added themselves, but either didn't, or deliberately decided not to. I'd be curious to see research into the sociological consequences of this :)

Last year I released a bit of software that lets you move around Parser based interactive fiction or text adventure games using your PC Keyboard's number pad, turning it into a sort of d-pad. So 8 is north, 6 is east, 2 is south, and so on.
It was something I wanted for years, and since I couldn't find anything like it I decided to have a go at making it myself.
I know hardly anything about coding so frankly I'm surprised it works at all. I did it in AutoHotkey script as it's simple enough for me to understand. This means it's Windows only unfortunately.
If it's something you might find useful, grab it from the IF Archive at https://www.ifarchive.org/if-archive/mapping-tools/IF_D-pad.zip.
The source code is at https://github.com/kara-louise/IF-D-pad.

The ZenGin engine of the #gothic #games from #PiranhaBytes is driving me insaneeeee. I know I am using the damned assembler to make the game read but some architectural decisions made by Piranha are beyond me. Why the hell the Spaer sorts objects in a completelu random order, making it almost impossible for me to create a pathfinding module so that blind players can navigate the game freely? Its so good I have the hjelp from the team behind Union as this project of mine would die like countless others. Good people are very rare but you can meet them sometimes...

I normally don't hawk wares but this is relevant to #PancakeDay & my spouse is not good at self-promo. So allow me to toot about him. He is a kind, funny, creative, caring person who has supported me through several (expensive) #surgeries & setbacks.
He created a dexterity/memory game that is perfect for parties & family gatherings. Kids love, adults love it. It's easy to learn and addictive to #play.

If you love #games, pls check this out!

#TableTopGames #pancakes
A game laid out on a table showing most of the components - 3 stacks of sturdy pancakes (one stack shows the side depicting various flavors--apple flavor is pictured on top), a black ping pong paddle-shaped "griddle" with one pancake laying on top, a bell in the shape of a sunny-side up egg, and game cards printed to look like restaurant order forms. On the back of the cards is the logo of the game, FlapJack Flipout. The box and rules are also pictured.

I have a spreadsheet full of #Steam #game keys (all legit!) and in the spirit of Christmas (and just trying to make the world a slightly better place), I'm giving them away.

I'm **NOT doing this to get new followers**. You DON'T need to follow me to receive a key. This is about generosity when the world could really use some. The only thing I'd ask you to follow is the Wheaton rule: "Don't be a dick".

To avoid keyfarmers and resellers, I have some guidelines, though.

1. No new accounts. Sorry. You've got to have been here on Mastodon & obviously human; ie. no keyfarmers (If I don't know you, I'm checking profiles, a la Santa).

2. One game per person, but pick your top three preferred games that you want to play.

3. First in, first served. If your first preference is gone by the time I get to you, that's why there's a 2nd & 3rd preference!

4. DM me with the number, name, and preference order of the three games (my DMs are open)

Green: My keys
Blue: Additional keys generously donated by @McCovican.
Orange: @tojosan has joined the giveaway

Game listed multiple times = multiple keys.

We've given away ~100 games now, and more than doubled the list of keys as of Christmas morning (in Australia).

If you don't mind boosting this post, and keep the giving happening across Mastodon.

A video game that I've played more times than I can count, that I'm SO EXCITED is getting a remake, is Knights of the Old Republic. I can't overstate how much impact this game has had. If you haven't played it before, it's available on a ton of platforms & I HIGHLY recommend it, especially if you love Star Wars. If you have played, what's your favorite Star Wars game & why? Here's me as Bastila with guest star Revan at Star Wars Celebration ❤️ #KOTOR #BastilaShan #Revan #StarWars #cosplay #games
a photo of 2 cosplayers holding lightsabers in front of a convention center during Star Wars Celebration. On the left, one is wearing a black hooded cloak over a helmet that completely covers their face, and matching ornate armor over dark clothing, dressed as Revan, and on the right, the other has dark brown skin, black hair styled in an updo, and is wearing a long brown tabard over a tan bodysuit, with a matching belt and boots. Next to her is her wheelchair.
A dark convention room with the only illumination coming from the projection screen which reads 'Anaheim 2015 Star Wars Celebration' and the dimly lit figure in the center, holding a bright yellow double bladed light saber at an angle behind her back. Her face is obscured, but from her silhouette you can tell her hair and clothing are styled to resemble Bastila Shan from Knights of the Old Republic

a smiling dark-skinned Black woman holding several comic books including Nubia, Queen of the Amazons, Nubia: Real One, Niobe She Is Life, Living Heroes, and Marvel Voices. Text on image reads 'Comics Chat' 'Indies, Big2, Self Published & Webtoons' 'Jay Justice'

#Introduction time!
My name is dos; some call me Sebastian. I made dozens of small silly video #games and some slightly less small ones too. I'm one half of @holypangolin studio. Sometimes I pretend to be a musician, but don't get fooled. I'm also a living encyclopedia on a Polish rock band "Perfect". Trams are cooler than trains. The more caramel, the better. I've been using GNU/#Linux on #mobile phones for ages, which led me to work with @purism on the Librem 5. btw I use Arch, but I ❤️ Debian!
A very silly and chaotic photo of myself sitting in front of the camera playing a bass ukulele. I'm in a silly propeller hat, Hacktoberfest t-shirt, wearing rainbow cloth mask and shiny round sunglasses full of reddish sequins that together cover up the whole face. In the background there's a sign stating that "Games = art" with a rainbow, googly eyes and colorful flowers around. Another sign states "I am Banksy" in big colorful letters. An ukulele and classical guitar are standing in the background, so does a poster for the game "Karambola". Popular "Minions" characters are climbing the wall behind. A wicked wicker "bird" sculpture is standing in the foreground on a djembe. There's also a guitar amp with crocheted small owls standing on top (one in a cardboard car), a paper magazine about a rock band "Perfect", and a Dell laptop with a Librem 5 phone placed below its keyboard, displaying phosh's lockscreen. Color saturation has been visibly boosted.
