I'm seeing posts from people still on Fosstodon saying that the fediverse is a meaner place than what it replaced, and that there are some always-online people who have nothing better to do than create drama. And I admit, for a moment it made me doubt whether I should have boosted what I did. But I know we should prioritize the safety of marginalized people over always giving members of the already dominant group the benefit of the doubt.
@matt FWIW that pang of doubt still hits me sometimes too. It's happened so many times now, and the reactions are all so predictable, that I can quickly recognize and dismiss it, but it's still so tedious and sad.
