I left the demo scene in the early 1990s and eventually gave away all my remaining c64s etc. I get regular requests from friends and people "from the old days" to do a comeback with a demo at some point, but I feel I have so much to do and focus that are current and "more real" that I am unlikely to ever do that. I think.
But I still appreciate having had that time and experience in my life. It quite literally made me the person I am today and I learned so much.
I'm sure it's the nostalgia speaking but I do have fond memories of cutting my teeth writing assembly to push pixels and abuse the hardware. An era when the entire annotated listing for TOS was in the back of a book and you could read and understand most of it. @foosel
And yeah, there are still some things in my past that made me who I am and that are no longer a part of my life or not something I can find the time for as well.

Jokes aside (our ST group has made Amiga demos, can you believe it?), have attended any retro demoscene events in later years? It can be incredibly fun, even if you didn't actually code anything.
@loke @foosel I did move on to the Amiga after the C64, and I did some early demo stuff on that as well but for me the fun and level of challenge was not present on that machine. I instead switched to learning C on that machine and wrote a text editor: FrexxEd. Imported into GitHub by someone some fifteen years ago: github.com/vidarh/FrexxEd

The Atari ST was much more like the C64. Esp. the removal of borders, where the first one to do it on the ST tried various tricks inspired by how it was done on the C64 even.
@pawandubey I honestly don't know. I think maybe Kjell might have a copy - I know I don't... The game was entirely playable and even quite fun, we just didn't have the discipline to take it all the way to a complete and finished product. We were still teenagers back then.
If you (or Kjell) ever put it online again I'd love to try it out. Don't have access to a real C64 so maybe through an emulator, or through one of those copycat/revival machines that have come up recently.
Bob Marley's emergence in the 1970s was part of the rise of reggae as a global musical genre. I could have picked one of his are politically tracks, but this is one of the tracks that cemented his reputation far from the reggae aficionados. Its a lovely lilting rhythm with an organ riff at its centre & the Waliers doing a great job of backing Marleys's distinctive voice. Still fab!

It was fun patching DTS, compiling FreeBSD from source and making it run on Nanopi R2S Plus. However, unfortunately, progress is not always smooth. There was a bug that affected one of my ports. This bug has not been resolved.
But it was fun! Thank you for the great experience.
@feld nanopi r2s plus has secondary port for LAN. this port is basically a USB-to-Gigabit kind of device. the first port (WAN) is a dedicated ethernet, so it is working flawless.
if you're comfortable with borrowing an IP from a VPS that may have good-enough of a reputation, do that with a VPN so you can keep the mail server at home. You can even put a cloud VPS IP directly on your server at home if you do proxy arp over the VPN.

Just heard about Bitrig, an iOS app that lets you "vibecode" apps in Swift UI from your phone. It was created by some X Swift UI devs who used to work at Apple, and although I haven't yet tested this out I have no reason to think it wouldn't be accessible. This could actually be a really fun way to learn, as you can not only see the final result, but also view and edit the code. You can even share your new app with friends and deploy to TestFlight. It’s actually quite good. I created a tiny visual metronome app for myself. My excitement is temporarily down because they lack some of the frameworks that I needed for another app. It is really accessible, at least enough for you to design your own apps. Give it a shot!

Wow, Jackbox Party Pack 11 really took a slide back in accessibility that's for sure. No correct answers are shown via live regions, in fact that trivia game doesn't even do live announcing at all. Avatars are no longer accessible but unlabelled buttons. For all the ways packs were improving, this one was as though nobody took any lessons and just repeated the same inaccessible experience creation they were all familiar with. Unbelievable. (oooh!) update: Liam (who's a well-known gamer in this community) mentions they're aware of some of these, I might still write up an e-mail with all of what I can find but let's hope a game update will fix many of my gripes soon.
@lerven Hmm yeah, I will! Sadly when you think of it, this year most games have a drawing element. Hearsay, Cookie House, possibly suspectives. I think Legends of Trivia and Doominate could be doable. I haven't tried the latter, but did play a round of LoT with my partner, which was fun but also we had to guess by the noises of either sword or monster stomach growl to know whether we got something right or not. Was quite funny
Which reminds me. I did buy the game twice, Party Pack 11, once on Apple TV and second time on Steam. If friends whish to play and get together to do so, all here for that - we can explore issues together and see how good each title is. I get it for both platform types because with local friends, Apple TV works way better, but for remote playing and piping audio Windows or Mac OS is great. Haven't tried the Linux version, wonder if Steam would read the webview with Orca right or not, hmm.
@collectifission Yes and no. It's one of those things where once you understand the architecture, it's obvious. But you should at least be familiar with normal full/incremental/differential backup strategies and how you'd do it for a tape library.
I should make a blog post about how to set it up in a simplified configuration people will want: backups just go to to a regular filesystem location, they're written to files that are virtual volumes // simulate a single-use tape (has to be fully overwritten, not appended). And are limited to, say, 5GB each so they play nicer with file sync tools.
